To expand your inventory in Over the Hill, finish the tutorial, visit Crazy Günther at the mechanic marker, open the upgrade menu, and buy the next Tool Slots stage. You begin with one slot and can reach four by spending 25, then 50, then 75 Pebbles—a total of 150 Pebbles. The upgrades are sequential and apply only to the vehicle selected when you purchase them.
How do I unlock more inventory slots?

- Open the map. Travel to the mechanic marker.
- Talk to Crazy Günther. Enter his vehicle-upgrade menu.
- Select Tool Slots. Buy the next unlocked stage. The stages must be purchased in order, so a later stage cannot be skipped.
- Check the loadout. Before leaving, confirm that the vehicle now shows the additional empty slot.
The purchase affects the vehicle currently selected in the mechanic screen. Treat each vehicle as having its own upgrade level rather than assuming that one payment expands every vehicle you own.

- Using a tool empties its slot.
- Empty slots refill at the Mechanic, at a cabin, or after a cabin respawn.
- You cannot buy or discover extra tool types beyond the seven listed tools.
How should I use four slots?
A practical general-purpose arrangement is a portable winch for recovery, a jack for rollovers, planks for difficult terrain, and either a repair kit or Cloud Clearing Bell for damage and weather support. This is a planning option rather than a required combination; change it when a route’s hazards make another tool more useful.

How can I earn the Pebbles for the upgrades?
Pebbles are the shared currency for vehicle improvements, so Tool Slots compete with engine, tires, suspension, winch, water-resistance, and protection upgrades. AllThingsHow identifies Challenge Trails, Recoveries, Points of Interest, and meteorite extraction as Pebble-paying activities.
Why meteorites matter
The official tools reference says Meteorite Radar points toward the nearest landed meteorite and describes meteorites as the one Pebble source that never runs out. Carrying the radar can therefore support a repeatable currency route, although it uses one of the limited slots while equipped.
Are inventory upgrades shared between vehicles?
No. A Tool Slot purchase belongs to the vehicle selected at the time of purchase. If you switch to another vehicle, that vehicle retains its own Tool Slot level, so check the active vehicle before spending Pebbles.

This vehicle-specific setup also means that buying all three stages for one vehicle does not automatically give a newly selected vehicle four slots. Plan purchases around the vehicle you use for a particular expedition.
What is the difference between more slots and more tools?
More slots increase how many of the already available field tools you can carry at once. They do not add new tool categories, raise a tool’s power, or create a larger currency inventory. The maximum is four simultaneously equipped tools, while the game’s tool roster remains the seven tools listed in the official reference.
Which upgrade should I buy first?
If you regularly abandon a tool because there is no room for it, the first 25-Pebble stage is the least expensive way to add a second slot. - Return to Crazy Günther’s upgrade menu and verify that the purchase was completed, rather than merely highlighted.
- Confirm that you bought the next stage in sequence; stages cannot be skipped.
- Check that you were viewing the intended vehicle when you paid.
- Look at the loadout before leaving the mechanic to confirm the new empty slot.
- If the slot is empty after using a tool, visit a Mechanic or cabin, or trigger a cabin respawn, to refill it.
Which platforms include the game?

Can I skip directly to the four-slot upgrade?
No. The Tool Slot stages are sequential. You must buy the 25-Pebble stage, then the 50-Pebble stage, and finally the 75-Pebble stage for that vehicle.
Do unused tools carry over after I respawn at a cabin?
Cabin respawns refill empty tool slots, according to the official tools reference. A tool you have not used remains part of the loadout, while a consumed tool is restored through the refill process.
