To suppress planetary Sentinels in No Man’s Sky, either defeat the force summoned at maximum alert or locate and shut down a Sentinel Pillar. The Pillar is the lower-combat route; both methods suppress Sentinels only temporarily, not permanently.
Choose a shutdown method
| Method | What to do | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Sentinel Pillar | Find and breach a Pillar, then activate the shutdown process at its main terminal. | Avoids the large battle; suppression is temporary. [Hello Games] |
| Maximum-alert fight | Continue fighting through the alert until the forces summoned at maximum alert are defeated. | Suppresses additional Sentinels across that planet for a limited time. [Hello Games] |
Use a Sentinel Pillar to avoid the large battle
- Locate a Sentinel Pillar. Reaching level 5 Sentinel alert reveals the nearest Pillar, or use a Sentinel Boundary Map to find one. [Hello Games]
- Breach the Pillar and interact with its main terminal to activate the shutdown process. Hello Games describes this as locking down the Sentinels without engaging in the large battle. [Hello Games]
Fight until maximum alert to suppress Sentinels
If you choose combat, keep going until you defeat the Sentinel forces summoned at maximum alert. Hello Games says this suppresses additional Sentinels across the planet for a limited time. [Hello Games]
Hiding or escaping is not a planet-wide shutdown
Running out of sight or taking cover may help in an immediate encounter, but those are player-reported tactics, not documented methods for shutting down a planet’s Sentinel forces. The official update notes that Sentinels can pursue players into buildings and caves, so neither is a dependable way to stop them planet-wide. [Steam discussion] [Hello Games]
How long does suppression last?
Hello Games describes both shutdown outcomes as temporary or lasting “for a limited time,” but its Sentinel Update does not give an exact duration or a complete list of actions that restore activity. The official Cosmos 7.06 notes, published October 5, 2026, do not describe a change to these mechanics. [Hello Games] [Hello Games]
