Steam describes points as something you earn by shopping on Steam. Its current Community Awards no longer transfer points to recipients, and promotional rewards such as Discovery Queue stickers are separate items—not points.
How Steam Points are earned
Steam’s Points Shop explainer describes points as earned by shopping on Steam. The official material cited here does not establish a general way to increase your points balance without spending.

The Points Shop lets you spend points on digital profile and chat customization, including stickers, emoticons, profile showcases and other virtual items. Those are things points can buy; receiving one of those items as a promotion does not add points to your balance.

Do Steam Community Awards give you points?
No. Under Steam’s Second Edition Community Awards system, new awards show appreciation for creators but do not transfer points to recipients. Valve’s announcement says: “Any pending point transfers will complete like normal, but new award applications will not convey points.” Each new Community Award costs 500 Steam Points.

Can the Discovery Queue give you free Steam Points?
Not based on the promotion Steam describes. In its 2025 Winter Sale announcement, Steam offered three stickers for going through the Discovery Queue. Those were limited promotional digital items, not Steam Points, and the offer does not establish a recurring way to earn points. Check the Winter Sale announcement for the promotion details.

Beware of point generators and other supposed shortcuts
Steam’s official material cited here does not recognize third-party point generators, account-sharing schemes, or physical purchases as ways to create Steam Points. There is no supported basis to treat such offers as effective or safe. Don’t hand over your login details or account access in pursuit of free points.
Likewise, Steam hardware, peripherals, books and gaming tools do not provide a cited mechanism for adding points. A digital reward can be free without being Steam Points; check what the offer actually grants before counting on it to change your balance.
