To get the Deep Freeze Mage rune in WoW Classic Season of Discovery, collect 25 Mage books and turn them in to a Librarian. Owen Thadd in Undercity and Garion Wendell in Stormwind are listed turn-in options. A Rune Broker purchase is also reported by an older guide, but check that it is available in your game before relying on it.
How to unlock Deep Freeze with Mage books
- Collect 25 Mage books from the available book locations. The requirement is described in the Deep Freeze guide.
- Take the books to a Librarian NPC and turn them in. Listed examples are Owen Thadd at coordinates 73,33 in Undercity and Garion Wendell at 38,81 in Stormwind.
The collection is part of the Great Friend of the Library book collection. The available guide information does not establish a complete, optimized route for finding all 25 books for each faction, so check which locations you can access in your current game.

Can you buy the rune from a Rune Broker?
A Wowhead guide updated July 12, 2024, reports that class runes can be purchased from Rune Brokers in each race’s main city. Treat that as a reported alternative, not a guarantee of current availability: confirm that a Rune Broker offers Deep Freeze in your game before choosing this route. The guide also warns that some discoveries or rune-related quests may not function properly if the related ability is learned from purchased vendor items; this warning has not been independently confirmed here.

Blizzard describes Rune Engraving as the Season of Discovery system for adding and removing class abilities, but its launch announcement does not confirm whether an individual Rune Broker currently sells Deep Freeze. See Blizzard’s Season of Discovery announcement.
