Fastest current route: buy Eye of the Void from a Rune Broker for 1 copper. If you want to complete the original discovery instead, collect seven Eyes across Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, then use them at the Shrine of the Watcher in Azshara. Blizzard cautions that buying runes from a Rune Broker can affect related discoveries, though its note does not identify Eye of the Void’s quest as an affected one. If you want the original quest experience, do that route before buying the rune.
Choose between the Rune Broker and the original quest
| Route | What you do | Cost or effort | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rune Broker | Buy the rune from a Rune Broker. | 1 copper per rune, according to Warcraft Tavern’s current Phase 6 guide. Blizzard says Rune Brokers in starting areas provide access to all class runes at level 1. | Fast, but Blizzard warns generally that buying runes may interfere with related discovery methods. Its hotfix note does not single out this quest. |
| Original discovery | Collect seven Eyes in seven zones, then complete the shrine interaction in Azshara. | Cross-zone travel and seven pickups; Wowhead lists level 50 as the original quest’s minimum. | Preserves the exploration route and avoids learning this rune from a purchased item first. |
Blizzard’s June 25 hotfix added a Rune Broker to every starting area and says the vendor provides access to all class runes at level 1 (Blizzard hotfix note). Warcraft Tavern’s Phase 6 guide reports the 1-copper price and availability in cities as well as starting zones (Warcraft Tavern guide). Since vendor availability and price can change with a patch, check the live client if those details matter to you.
How to complete the original Eye of the Void discovery
The quest requires four Eyes from Eastern Kingdoms and three from Kalimdor. Collect them in any order. Wowhead lists level 50 as the minimum for the original quest (Wowhead Priest rune guide).
