The Founder’s Cape was originally offered through the Minecraft Marketplace as part of the Founder’s Cape Skin Pack, free for a limited time in 2019. Minecraft’s announcement confirms that original route, but it does not establish that the pack can still be claimed or recovered today. No current official claim method is verified here.
How do I get the Founder’s Cape?
Mojang announced the cape at MINECON Live on September 28, 2019. The stated method was to download the Founder’s Cape Skin Pack from the Minecraft Marketplace while it was free for a limited time. The announcement said the cape would launch later that fall. Read Minecraft’s 2019 announcement.

That was a time-limited digital Marketplace offer, not a physical cape, a code purchase, or a reward for buying Minecraft. The article named Xbox One, Windows 10 Edition, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android as Bedrock platforms at the time; that is a period-specific list, not a complete list of current platforms.
Can I still get the Founder’s Cape in Minecraft?
The official announcement verifies how the original offer worked, but it does not say whether people who missed it can claim the pack now, whether prior downloads remain available to eligible accounts, or whether Mojang will re-release it. A current claim or recovery route is therefore unverified. That is different from proving it can never return.

Check Minecraft’s official Marketplace and announcements for any current availability notice. Do not rely on third-party codes or listings as a way to unlock the cape: the cited official route was the Marketplace skin pack, and no such alternative is established by the announcement.
Is the Hero Cape another way to get it?
No. The Hero Cape is a separate promotion, not the Founder’s Cape. Minecraft’s Minecraft Dungeons II page describes a Hero Cape reward for players with qualifying Minecraft Dungeons activity who use the same Microsoft account and log in to Minecraft Dungeons II before December 31, 2026. That page says the reward can be used in Java and Bedrock; it does not say it grants the Founder’s Cape.

How do I equip a cape I already own?
Owning a cape and equipping it are separate matters. Minecraft’s Character Creator FAQ says capes can be equipped on custom skins, Marketplace skins, default skins, and Character Creator characters. This general guidance applies to capes you own; it does not establish that the Founder’s Cape is currently obtainable.
