The early vocation unlock comes from meeting Sigurd during the dragon attack at Melve and asking about his fighting style. Wild Furie is a separate reward tied to a later encounter with him.
What Sigurd’s approval unlocks
The PlayStation Blog identifies Sigurd as the Mystic Spearhand Maister and Wild Furie as the vocation’s Maister’s Teaching. It also explains that Maisters may grant special tomes as the player deepens a relationship and earns approval: PlayStation Blog’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 preview.
Learning Mystic Spearhand and receiving Wild Furie are separate interactions. If your aim is simply to use the vocation, start with the Melve encounter. If you want the Maister skill, you need to meet Sigurd again later.
Unlock Mystic Spearhand at Melve
- Progress through the early main story and the Vernworth section, then return to Melve. A dragon encounter is reported to occur on your return, though its timing can depend on story progress.
- Help repel the dragon. Sigurd, who carries a duospear, is present during the encounter.
- After the fight, speak to Sigurd and ask about his manner of fighting. This conversation is the reported route to unlocking the Mystic Spearhand vocation.

If you missed the Melve encounter
Check Harve Village, including the Coastal Hut, for Sigurd. He can also be found later at Dragonsbreath Tower. These locations provide alternatives if you did not speak with him at Melve or have already moved past that encounter. The exact availability can depend on your story progress; see GameSpot’s Mystic Spearhand guide.
How to get Wild Furie
- Find Sigurd at Dragonsbreath Tower and complete the encounter there.
- Speak with him again afterward. Guides associate this later interaction with receiving Wild Furie, the Mystic Spearhand Maister’s Teaching.
- If he does not give you the teaching, guides report that raising his affinity may be necessary. No dependable numeric threshold or guaranteed gift count is established, so there is no confirmed approval score to target.
Do not treat learning the vocation at Melve as proof that you have received Wild Furie; check your skills separately after the later Sigurd interaction. The teaching’s relationship to Sigurd and the possible affinity condition are described in Polygon’s Sigurd and Wild Furie guide.
