Get the Silph Scope by defeating Giovanni in the Team Rocket Hideout beneath Celadon City’s Rocket Game Corner. First open the hideout behind the Game Corner’s poster, find the Lift Key on B4F, and use it to reach Giovanni. Pick up the Scope he leaves after the battle, then take it to Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town.
Open the Team Rocket Hideout
- Go to the Rocket Game Corner in Celadon City and defeat the Team Rocket grunt standing in front of the poster.
- Examine the poster and activate the switch behind it. Stairs to the underground Team Rocket Hideout will appear. The hideout is beneath the Game Corner. Bulbapedia’s hideout overview describes the entrance and layout.
Find the Lift Key on B4F
Work through the hideout’s basement floors and reach B4F. Spin tiles on B2F and B3F can make the route confusing. On B4F, defeat the Rocket grunt in the northwest area; in FireRed, he drops the Lift Key. You need this key to operate the elevator and reach Giovanni’s office. Defeat Giovanni and collect the Silph Scope
Use the Lift Key to take the elevator to Giovanni’s office on B4F. After you defeat him, collect the Silph Scope he leaves on the floor before leaving the hideout. It is not a prize bought at the Game Corner; it is obtained after the Giovanni battle. The FireRed and LeafGreen walkthrough also instructs players to pick up the Scope Giovanni leaves behind.
Return to Pokémon Tower
Take the Silph Scope to Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town. It reveals the tower’s ghosts as Gastly and Haunter and is needed to fully progress through the tower. Bulbapedia’s FireRed and LeafGreen version reference describes the Scope’s role there.
