To go to Khaz Algar, your account must own The War Within and your character must be level 70 or higher. Follow the introductory campaign prompt shown in game; your first destination is the Isle of Dorn, where you’ll find Dornogal, Khaz Algar’s central hub. Blizzard’s published guidance does not establish one universal quest pickup or travel sequence for every character and game update.
What you need before you can go
- Your account must own World of Warcraft: The War Within.
- The character you want to take must be level 70 or higher.
These are Blizzard’s stated requirements for beginning the journey to Khaz Algar. See Blizzard’s introductory guidance.
How to get to Khaz Algar
- Log in on a character that meets the expansion ownership and level requirements.
- Check the character’s campaign or quest tracker for the introductory War Within prompt, then follow its instructions.
- Continue to the Isle of Dorn, Khaz Algar’s first destination zone. Dornogal, the island’s central hub, is located there.
Blizzard confirms the requirements and destination, but does not document a single current opening quest chain that applies to every faction, character history, and patch state. For that reason, use the prompt shown for your character rather than relying on a supposedly universal portal, NPC, or starting city. For the destination layout, see Blizzard’s Khaz Algar zone guide.
Where Dornogal and the other Khaz Algar zones are
Dornogal is on the Isle of Dorn. The Coreway in Dornogal is the described entrance to Khaz Algar’s underground regions. The four major zones and Blizzard’s guide-era level ranges are:

These ranges come from Blizzard’s 2024 zone guide; they describe that guide’s progression, not a mandatory sequence for every character.
If the introductory quest does not appear
Check that the account owns The War Within, that the character is at least level 70, and that you are viewing that character’s campaign progress. Quest availability can vary with character state and game updates. Blizzard’s published guidance does not give a universal fix for a missing prompt, so it cannot confirm that relogging, a particular portal, or a specific NPC will solve it.

Do not confuse first entry with later unlocks
Going to Khaz Algar is separate from unlocking later content. For example, Blizzard’s Undermine guide says that its journey requires level 80 and completion of the Khaz Algar leveling campaign; it begins with “When Opportunity Explodes” from Gazlowe and Renzik in Foundation Hall, Dornogal. Those requirements apply to that later journey, not to entering Khaz Algar for the first time.
