From Mantis Village, climb back into Fungal Wastes and head for the western entrance to the City of Tears. At the gate, place the City Crest in the statue of Great Knight Hegemol to open it. The Mantis Claw is the key traversal ability for this route; defeating the Mantis Lords is not required to open the city gate.
Route from Mantis Village to the City of Tears
- Climb out of Mantis Village. Head upward through the village and exit into the surrounding Fungal Wastes. The Mantis Claw is the relevant traversal ability for progressing through this area. Mantis Claw
- Cross Fungal Wastes toward the west gate. Continue through the fungal area to the western main entrance of the City of Tears. City of Tears
- Open the gate with the City Crest. At the statue of Great Knight Hegemol, use the City Crest in its slot to unlock the entrance. City Crest
Do you need to defeat the Mantis Lords?
No. The City of Tears’ western gate is opened with the City Crest, not by defeating the Mantis Lords. Their documented reward is safe passage through Mantis Village and access to the lower entrance to Deepnest. Mantis Lords
Other entrances to the City of Tears
The City also has entrances from Ancient Basin using the Tram Pass, from Royal Waterways, and by a lift from Resting Grounds. These are alternate routes; to travel directly from Mantis Village, use the western gate through Fungal Wastes.
