To host Last Days of Humanity with friends, use the official LDOH-serverpack+0.5.7.zip on a clean Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge server, allocate an initial 4–5 GB heap, and have every player install the matching LDoH-0.5.7.zip client pack. The pack FAQ recommends the Default world type. You can run the server on a computer or VPS, or deploy it through CurseForge Servers if you want managed networking and one-click installation.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
The instructions below cover both approaches, including first startup, configuration, player access, version discipline, and the failures most likely to prevent a connection.

What you need before starting
A reliable LDoH server depends on four pieces matching: the Minecraft version, Forge installation, client pack, and server pack. Gather these before creating a world.
- Official client pack:
LDoH-0.5.7.zip, for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge. - Official server pack:
LDOH-serverpack+0.5.7.zip, matched to the client release. - A host machine: a computer that can stay online while friends play, or a VPS/managed Minecraft host.
- A compatible Java runtime: use the Java installation accepted by your 1.12.2 Forge setup.
- Network access: a reachable server address, plus firewall and router changes if the server is at home.
The project file listings show the client archive uploaded on May 29, 2024 and the server archive uploaded on May 30, 2024. The project page lists approximately 1.3 million downloads, with its last update shown as May 30, 2024. Those figures describe page metadata, not a current player count or an estimate of how many servers are online.

Choose a hosting method
There are two practical routes: self-hosting, where you control the files and network, and managed hosting, where a provider runs the machine for you.
| Consideration | Self-hosted computer or VPS | Managed deployment |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Create a clean Forge directory, extract the server pack, run Forge, and configure networking. | Choose a modpack with a matching server pack in the host’s control panel and deploy it. |
| File and mod control | Direct access to server files, configuration, worlds, and logs. | Control depends on the host panel and its file manager or support policy. |
| Port forwarding | Required when friends connect to a home network; a VPS normally supplies a public address. | CurseForge Servers is described as avoiding manual uploads and port forwarding. |
| Maintenance | You handle Forge launches, backups, updates, firewall rules, and recovery. | The provider supplies the machine and panel; you still need to manage the world and modpack settings. |
| Support | Your own troubleshooting, plus the LDoH community channels for pack-specific issues. | Provider support is available, but response quality and technical scope vary by company. |
When self-hosting makes sense
Self-hosting is suitable when you already have a machine that can remain online and you want unrestricted access to the server directory. It is also the clearest option for learning how Forge, configuration files, backups, and logs work. A home server requires router and operating-system firewall changes, and shutting down the host shuts down the game.
When managed hosting makes sense
CurseForge’s official Servers guide describes a hosted-server workflow built around modpacks that include a matching server pack. The service can create the server from the Servers tab without manual ZIP uploads or home-router port forwarding. The documentation identifies Shockbyte as the service operator and Tebex as the billing platform. Confirm the plan’s memory, region, renewal price, cancellation terms, and file access before paying; the deployment guide does not establish a universal price or performance level.
DedicatedMinecraft.host, WinterNode, and PLAYNHOST advertise LDoH installation through their own panels. Their pages are leads for comparing availability, not independent evidence of equivalent performance, support, location coverage, or pricing. Check those details directly at the time you order.
Download the matching LDoH files
1. Keep one version for the whole group
Pick one LDoH release and write it down before anyone installs anything. For the currently documented release, that means Minecraft 1.12.2, Forge, client file LDoH-0.5.7.zip, and server file LDOH-serverpack+0.5.7.zip. Do not let one player update to a different pack version while the server remains on 0.5.7.
Rank #2
- ULTIMATE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, five Bedrock add-ons, five exclusive Character Creator items, and 1000 Minecoins.

2. Download the client archive
Each player needs the official client pack from the project’s CurseForge file listing. Install it through the launcher or modpack workflow you normally use for Forge 1.12.2. The exact launcher steps vary, but the resulting profile must load the same LDoH version as the server.
3. Download the server archive
Only the host needs LDOH-serverpack+0.5.7.zip. Keep the ZIP intact until you have created a dedicated server directory. Do not mix files from an older LDoH release into this directory; a mismatched mods folder is a common cause of missing-mod and registry errors.
Build a self-hosted Forge server
1. Create a clean directory
Make a new folder used only for this LDoH instance. A short path without spaces makes scripts and log review easier. Do not point Forge at an existing vanilla world or another modpack’s directory. Copy the server ZIP into the new folder, then extract all of its contents there.
2. Run Forge once
Start the Forge server from that directory. The first launch creates configuration files, a world directory, and log files. A typical Java launch pattern is:
java -Xms4G -Xmx5G -jar <your-forge-server-jar> nogui
The file name generated by Forge can differ, so use the actual Forge server JAR in your folder rather than copying a guessed name. The command gives the process a 4 GB starting heap and a 5 GB maximum heap, matching the pack FAQ’s recommended 4–5 GB allocation. If your host uses a launch script or control panel, enter equivalent minimum and maximum memory values there instead.

- COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.
3. Accept the Minecraft EULA
Forge will stop on its first run until the EULA is accepted. Open the generated eula.txt, read Mojang’s terms, and change the acceptance setting only if you agree to them. Start the server again and watch the console for a successful Forge startup. If it exits immediately, inspect the newest log before changing files.
4. Confirm the server pack loaded
During startup, look for Forge loading the expected mod list rather than reporting a vanilla-only server. A clean launch should create the normal server files and remain running at the console prompt. If the log reports missing mods, duplicate files, or an incompatible mod version, stop the process and rebuild the directory from the matching server ZIP instead of copying random JARs from a player’s client.
Configure the world and server properties
After the first successful launch, stop the server cleanly and edit server.properties. The pack FAQ specifically answers the world-type question with Default; use that value when creating a new LDoH world.
Settings worth deciding before inviting players
- Server name (MOTD): give friends a recognizable label in their multiplayer list.
- Difficulty: choose the challenge level your group expects before generating the world.
- Whitelist: enable it for a private group, then add each player’s exact Minecraft username.
- View distance: begin conservatively if the host struggles with tick time, then raise it only after observing performance.
- Port: keep the configured value consistent with the firewall and router rule, or with the port assigned by your host.
- World type: select
default, as recommended by the LDoH FAQ.
Generate the permanent world only after checking these choices. Changing world-generation settings later does not safely convert an existing save; make a backup before experimenting.
Recommended Free Tools
Start the server and watch performance
Launch the Forge process again with the 4–5 GB heap recommendation as your starting allocation. Memory allocation is not a guarantee of smooth play: watch the console, operating-system memory use, and tick behavior while several players explore. Increasing the heap can help when the process is genuinely short of memory, but it cannot fix a wrong mod version, a saturated CPU, or an unreachable network port.

- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
Use a repeatable start and stop routine
- Start the server from its dedicated directory or panel.
- Wait for Forge to finish loading before anyone joins.
- Keep the console open long enough to notice repeated errors rather than treating the first “done” message as proof that every mod is healthy.
- When shutting down, issue the server’s normal stop command and wait for the world-save confirmation. Do not kill the process during a save.
- Copy the world directory and important configuration files to a separate backup location on a schedule that fits how much progress your group can afford to lose.
Make a home server reachable
1. Allow the process through the host firewall
Create an inbound rule for the server’s configured port and for the Java process, if your operating system asks for an application exception. Test locally first: joining from the same machine or home network confirms that Forge is listening before you troubleshoot the router.
2. Forward the port on the router
For friends outside your home, map the chosen server port from the router to the computer running Forge. Give that computer a stable local address so the rule does not point at a different device after a reboot. If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, ordinary forwarding may not work; use a VPS or managed host instead of exposing a server that cannot receive inbound connections.
3. Share the correct address
Give players the public address and port that your network exposes, not the server’s private home-network address. Never publish a private server address in a public forum, and keep the whitelist enabled when only invited friends should join.

Deploy through CurseForge Servers
The official CurseForge Servers documentation describes a one-click route for modpacks that have a matching server pack. In the Servers tab, select the LDoH project and the version that includes its server artifact, then follow the panel’s deployment steps. This approach removes manual archive extraction and home-router port forwarding, while the host handles the underlying machine and network endpoint.
After deployment, verify the same items you would on a self-hosted instance: the selected release is 0.5.7, the server reports Forge 1.12.2, the world type is Default, and the memory limit is sufficient for the pack’s recommended 4–5 GB range. Check how the panel exposes logs, backups, configuration editing, and world downloads before inviting players. A one-click install does not eliminate the need to keep every client on the same version.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Set up every player’s client
- Install the Forge 1.12.2 profile required by the LDoH client pack.
- Install
LDoH-0.5.7.zipthrough the player’s launcher or modpack manager. - Launch the profile once and confirm that the main menu and mod list load without errors.
- In Multiplayer, add the host’s address and port.
- If the server uses a whitelist, give the host the exact in-game username so it can be added before joining.
Clients should not add optional mods, shader loaders, or configuration files until the unmodified pack connects successfully. Extra client-only changes can obscure whether a failure is caused by LDoH, Forge, or a local customization.
Troubleshoot the failures that stop connections
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| “Missing mods” or a registry mismatch | The client and server use different LDoH or Forge files. | Confirm every player has LDoH-0.5.7.zip, the server has LDOH-serverpack+0.5.7.zip, and no files from another release were copied into either installation. |
| Server stops during startup | Forge cannot load a file, the Java process lacks memory, or the directory contains conflicting files. | Read the latest log, verify the server-pack extraction, and test the documented 4–5 GB heap before changing unrelated settings. |
| Players on the same network can join, but outside players cannot | Firewall or router forwarding is incomplete, or the internet connection does not accept inbound traffic. | Check the operating-system rule, router destination, configured port, and whether the provider uses carrier-grade NAT. |
| Players reach the server but are rejected | The whitelist is enabled or the address points to the wrong instance. | Check the exact username in the whitelist and confirm that the shared address maps to the running LDoH process. |
| Severe lag or stalled ticks after several players join | The host is CPU-, memory-, or view-distance-limited. | Observe memory and tick behavior, lower view distance, close competing applications, and increase the heap only when logs and usage show memory pressure. |
| A world behaves differently after changing settings | World-generation choices were changed after the save already existed. | Restore the backup or create a separate test world; keep the production world on the Default type recommended by the FAQ. |
Read logs before reinstalling
Forge logs usually identify the first failing mod, file, or Java exception. Save the complete latest log, note the exact release and launch command, and remove only the file implicated by the error. Reinstalling the entire server without preserving the log can erase the evidence needed to distinguish a version mismatch from a memory or networking problem.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsKeep the server maintainable
Back up before any change
Stop the server cleanly, copy the world and configuration files, and label the backup with the LDoH version and date. Take an additional backup before changing Forge, replacing the server pack, or installing an optional mod. A backup on the same disk protects against a bad update but not disk failure, so keep at least one copy elsewhere.
Update as a coordinated event
Do not update the server first and ask players to “try again.” Choose the target LDoH release, download its client and matching server artifacts, back up the world, and schedule a short maintenance window. Each player should update the client before reconnecting. Keep the old server directory intact until the new version has loaded the world and passed a connection test.
Use community support for pack-specific issues
The official project page directs users with problems to the pack Discord and a work-in-progress wiki. Check the current destinations from the project page before sharing them, and include the LDoH version, Forge version, launch log, and the exact symptom in any support request. For firewall, router, or host-panel problems, contact the network or hosting provider after confirming that the Forge server itself starts locally.
Self-hosting or managed hosting: a practical decision
Choose self-hosting when file control, experimentation, and avoiding a recurring hosting bill matter more than convenience. Choose managed deployment when you want the provider to supply the machine, public endpoint, and panel, or when router access is unavailable. Neither route changes the core requirement: the server pack and every client must remain on the same LDoH and Forge release.

Final launch checklist
- Server directory was created from the official
LDOH-serverpack+0.5.7.zip. - All clients use
LDoH-0.5.7.zipon Forge for Minecraft 1.12.2. - The first Forge launch completed and the EULA was accepted according to Mojang’s terms.
server.propertiesuses the Default world type and the intended difficulty, whitelist, view distance, and port.- The process starts with the recommended 4–5 GB heap and remains stable while players test it.
- Firewall and router rules point to the correct machine, or a managed host supplies the public endpoint.
- A clean backup exists before the first long session.
- Every player has tested the same pack version and has the correct server address.
Once those checks pass, you can run Last Days of Humanity cooperatively without mixing client files, rebuilding the world after every configuration change, or exposing an unprotected home server.
