“New Beginnings” refers to two different Minecraft modpacks. The original HR: New Beginnings is listed for Minecraft 1.15.2, while HR: New Beginnings 2 is listed for Minecraft 1.16.5. Choose the pack and release first, then install its separate server package, the exact Forge build named by that release, and a 64-bit Java runtime suitable for that Minecraft version. Keep the server’s minimum and maximum heap equal, and make sure every player uses the same pack and Forge version.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
The version listings are several years old, so treat them as a starting point rather than proof that they are current. Confirm the release, server download and loader in the pack’s CurseForge Files tab before creating the world.

Identify the correct New Beginnings pack
A server cannot be set up reliably until you know which project your group means. The names are close, but the Minecraft versions and server files are different.
| Pack | Minecraft version shown in listings | Loader | Server-file information | Confidence and caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HR: New Beginnings (original) | 1.15.2 | Forge | A server file titled “New Beginnings 2.0 Server” was listed in April 2020. Search summaries also report a “New Beginnings Server 2.6.0” release dated February 15, 2021. | The 2.0 listing is medium confidence; the 2.6.0 date is low confidence because it was visible only in a search summary. Check the Files tab for a newer package. |
| HR: New Beginnings 2 | 1.16.x, with the listed release supporting 1.16.5 | Forge | The most recent release reported in the listings is New Beginnings 2 2.0.1, dated August 17, 2021, for Minecraft 1.16.5. | The listing is old. Verify whether a later file exists before downloading anything. |
Do not install the client ZIP on a dedicated server. Look for a file explicitly described as a server pack or server files. A client pack may contain configuration and mods but omit scripts, libraries or startup files required by a server.

Use the Files tab as the final authority
Open the project’s CurseForge page and record the exact release name, Minecraft version, Forge loader and whether a separate server download is supplied. The cached listings do not establish the exact Forge build, Java requirement or current newest release. Those details must come from the file you actually choose and its included instructions.
- Write down the complete pack version, not just “New Beginnings.”
- Download the server file attached to that same release where one is available.
- Keep the client and server on the same Minecraft version, pack version and Forge build.
- Save a copy of the original download so you can reproduce the installation after an update.
Choose self-hosting or a panel host
There are two practical ways to run the server. Self-hosting on a computer or VPS gives you direct control, while a rented panel host trades some control for an easier installer and managed console.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Decision point | Self-hosted computer or VPS | Rented/panel hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | You provide the hardware or VPS and pay its operating costs. | You pay the provider’s recurring plan; the price depends on memory, CPU and location. |
| Initial setup | You install Java, Forge, the server pack, firewall rules and port forwarding. | Some providers offer a one-click modpack installer that handles much of the software setup. |
| Control | Full control over Java, Forge, ports, files, backups and update timing. | Control depends on the panel and the provider’s supported images. |
| Maintenance | You perform updates, backups, log review and recovery yourself. | The panel may simplify reinstallations and backups, but you still need to select compatible versions and protect your world. |
| Network access | You normally configure a firewall and, on a home network, router port forwarding. | The provider normally supplies a public address and exposed game port. |
The New Beginnings project page mentions automated installation from a paid hosting provider. That is an option, not a requirement or an endorsement. Before ordering, confirm that the panel supports the required Minecraft version, Forge build, Java image, memory size and custom server files.

Prepare the software and hardware
Java
Use a 64-bit Java runtime. The Java major version must be compatible with the Minecraft version and the Forge build in the selected pack release. Generic setup guides for 1.15.2-era packs commonly point to Java 8, but that is not a verified requirement from the New Beginnings author. Do not assume that a Java version shown in an old guide is still correct for every release.
On a self-hosted machine, check the runtime before installing Forge:
java -version
If the command reports a 32-bit runtime, an unsupported major version or no Java installation, install the appropriate 64-bit build and run the command again. On a panel host, choose the Java image that the pack’s file or instructions require, then verify the selected image in the server settings. A panel that silently switches Java after an update can produce the same symptoms as a bad mod installation.

Memory
No pack-specific memory figure has been verified. Generic guidance in the available hosting material puts a 20–40-mod server at roughly 4 GB minimum and 6 GB recommended, with more needed as the player count and view distance rise. Treat those numbers as starting points, not a promise that New Beginnings will perform acceptably at either value.
Leave memory for the operating system and other services. On a machine with 8 GB total RAM, assigning all 8 GB to Java can make the host swap or terminate processes. Start with a conservative allocation, watch the server’s tick time and garbage-collection behavior, and increase memory only when logs and in-game performance show that it is needed.
Fixed heap settings
Set the Java minimum and maximum heap to the same value so the process does not repeatedly resize its heap during play. For a six-gigabyte allocation, an illustrative launch command is:

java -Xms6G -Xmx6G -jar forge-server.jar nogui
Use the actual Forge server JAR filename created by your installer; it may include the Minecraft and Forge versions. The equal -Xms and -Xmx values are the important part. If your host uses a startup field rather than a shell, enter those same options in its Java arguments box.
Recommended Free Tools
Network and storage
- Use a stable wired connection where possible, especially when the server runs at home.
- Reserve enough disk space for the server files, a growing world, crash reports and multiple backups.
- On a home network, forward the Minecraft server port shown in the server configuration to the host machine and allow Java through the operating-system firewall.
- Do not expose administrative panels, remote shells or file shares to the public internet merely to make the game reachable.
Install the original HR: New Beginnings server (Minecraft 1.15.2)
These steps apply only after the Files tab confirms that you are using the original project and a 1.15.2 server release.
- Select the release. Confirm the exact pack version and download its server package. The old listings mention “New Beginnings 2.0 Server” from April 2020 and a search-summary result for server 2.6.0 from February 2021; neither should be treated as current without checking the project page.
- Create a clean directory. Make a new folder dedicated to this server. Avoid mixing it with another Minecraft installation or an existing world.
- Extract the server package. Preserve the directory structure supplied by the author. If the archive contains an installer or a start script, read its included instructions before moving files.
- Install the exact Forge build. Use the Forge version named by the selected pack file. The client and server must use the same Forge build, not merely “some Forge for 1.15.2.”
- Run the server once. Start it with the supplied script or the generated Forge server JAR. The first run normally creates configuration files and an EULA file, then stops until the EULA is accepted.
- Accept the EULA. Open
eula.txt, read the Minecraft EULA, and change the acceptance entry toeula=trueonly if you agree to it. Save the file without changing its name or extension. - Set the heap. Edit the launch script or panel startup command so
-Xmsand-Xmxare equal. Begin around the generic memory guidance only if your hardware can spare it. - Start and inspect the console. Wait for the message indicating that the server has finished loading before connecting. Stop it with the console’s normal
stopcommand rather than closing the terminal. - Install the matching client. Every player should install the same 1.15.2 pack release, Forge build and configuration files. A different mod list or Forge build can cause a rejection during login.
Install New Beginnings 2 (Minecraft 1.16.5)
Use this branch only when the project page identifies the sequel, HR: New Beginnings 2. The reported 2.0.1 file is dated August 17, 2021 and supports 1.16.5, but the listing may be outdated.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
- Verify the current 1.16.5 release. Select the newest compatible file in the Files tab and download its server package, if supplied.
- Prepare a separate folder. Do not reuse the original pack’s folder, Forge libraries or world. Keeping the installations separate prevents a 1.15.2 file from being launched accidentally.
- Match Forge exactly. Install the Forge build attached to the 1.16.5 pack release. A Forge build that merely starts Minecraft 1.16.5 is not necessarily the one the pack expects.
- Complete first launch and EULA acceptance. Run the server, update
eula.txtonly after accepting the EULA, then launch again and let Forge generate its files. - Configure Java and heap. Select the 64-bit Java runtime required by the release instructions. Because the pack-specific Java requirement has not been established here, verify it in the release files or your host’s supported Java images rather than copying a 1.15.2 assumption.
- Connect with the same client release. Players must use the 1.16.5 sequel, its exact pack version and its matching Forge build. The original 1.15.2 pack cannot join this server.
Panel-host installation checklist
A one-click installer can remove much of the command-line work, but it does not remove version matching. Use this sequence:
- Open the panel’s modpack or custom-install catalog and search for the exact New Beginnings project and release.
- Check the displayed Minecraft version. Choose 1.15.2 for the original or 1.16.5 for the listed sequel release; do not select by name alone.
- Confirm that the panel installs Forge and identify the Forge build it will use.
- Set memory with equal minimum and maximum values if the panel exposes both fields.
- Check the Java image or runtime selector against the pack’s release instructions.
- Start the server once, accept the EULA in the panel file editor, and restart.
- Review the console for missing mods, Java errors or a failed Forge installation before inviting players.
- Download a backup of the world and configuration before changing the pack version.
If the panel offers only a generic “latest” option, do not use it for a version-sensitive pack without confirming the resulting Minecraft and Forge versions. Installing the server files manually through the panel’s file manager is safer when the catalog is stale.
First-connection and administration checklist
Before the first player joins
- Confirm that the server reaches its ready state without a crash loop.
- Check that the world directory, configuration directory and mods directory were created in the intended server folder.
- Connect locally from the host computer first. This separates a server problem from a router or firewall problem.
- Test a second connection from the same network, then test from outside the network if remote friends need access.
- Set an administrator account only after verifying that you can stop the server cleanly and restore a backup.
Backups and updates
Stop the server before copying the world directory. Keep at least one backup away from the live server, and label each backup with the pack version and date. Never overwrite a working world with a new pack version until you have a restorable copy.
For an update, record the current pack and Forge versions, stop the server, back up the world and configuration, install the new server files in a separate directory, and test the copy before switching players over. Do not assume that a newer modpack release can safely open an older world or that downgrading will work at all.
Common failures and precise fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The server exits immediately and mentions Java or class-file errors. | The Java major version or architecture is incompatible. | Check java -version, install a 64-bit runtime compatible with the selected Minecraft and Forge release, and ensure the panel is using that runtime rather than a default image. |
| “Missing mods,” registry differences or a login rejection. | Client and server do not have the same pack files, mod versions or Forge build. | Compare the exact release names and Forge versions on both sides. Reinstall the client from the same release instead of copying individual mods at random. |
| The server says it cannot find the Forge JAR. | The startup script points to a filename that does not exist, or Forge was installed in another folder. | List the server directory, use the generated Forge JAR’s exact name in the startup command, and keep the script in the same directory as the server files. |
| The process runs out of memory or stalls during generation. | The heap is too small for the workload, or the host has insufficient total RAM. | Check logs and operating-system memory use, increase the allocation within the host’s capacity, lower view or simulation distance, reduce concurrent players, or move to a larger machine. Keep -Xms and -Xmx equal. |
| Players on the internet cannot connect, but local connections work. | Firewall, router forwarding, carrier-grade NAT or an incorrect address. | Allow the server process through the firewall, forward the configured game port to the correct local address, verify the public address, and test from an external network. A panel host normally removes the router-forwarding step. |
| The server hangs while loading a world after an update. | A changed mod, Forge build or configuration is incompatible with that world. | Stop the server, restore the pre-update backup and test the new release on a copy. Do not repeatedly launch the only copy of the world while troubleshooting. |
| A panel installation starts with a different Java or Forge version than expected. | The catalog’s automated image is stale or uses a default runtime. | Inspect the panel’s runtime and Forge fields, install the server package manually if necessary, and confirm versions in the startup log. |
What memory should you allocate?
The only defensible general starting point from the available guidance is approximately 4 GB for a small 20–40-mod server and approximately 6 GB as a more comfortable starting point. Those figures are generic, low-confidence guidance and are not a published New Beginnings requirement. Player count, chunk-generation activity, view distance, Java overhead and the rest of the host’s workload all change the result.

Watch the console for repeated out-of-memory failures, long pauses, watchdog warnings and tick-time increases while several players explore new terrain. If the machine is swapping, adding Java heap alone can make performance worse; reduce other workloads or move the server to a host with more physical memory.
Quick Recap
Final launch checklist
- You identified the original 1.15.2 pack or the 1.16.5 sequel, rather than relying on the shared name.
- You checked the current CurseForge Files tab and downloaded the matching server package.
- The server and every client use the same Minecraft version, pack release and Forge build.
- A compatible 64-bit Java runtime is selected and verified.
- The EULA was accepted deliberately, and the server reaches its ready state.
-Xmsand-Xmxare equal and leave memory for the host operating system.- Local and remote connections were tested, with firewall and port forwarding configured where required.
- The world and configuration have a dated backup before anyone begins a long-term playthrough.
