The most reliable method is to download the official Feed The Beast (FTB) server files for Plexiglass Mountain, release 1.2.4 (server release ID 2302), run the installer in a dedicated folder, accept the Minecraft EULA, configure the generated server, and launch it with the supplied script. Every player must use the same modpack release and Minecraft/Forge combination. For either route, choose one pack release and record it. Mixing releases is the most common cause of missing-mod, registry, and connection errors.
Compatibility requirements to check first
Pack and Minecraft version
The FTB server-files listing identifies Plexiglass Mountain 1.2.4 as release ID 2302. The server and every client should use that exact pack release unless you are deliberately migrating to another release. A client on an earlier or later release can have different mods, configuration files, recipes, or world-generation data.

Forge and Java
The installer creates the Forge-based server environment expected by the pack. Use the Java major version required by the generated Forge build and the pack documentation; do not assume that the Java bundled with your operating system is suitable. Verify the runtime with java -version before launching. If the launch script reports an unsupported class version, install the required Java runtime and point the script or service to that executable.
Hardware and network
- Use an SSD when possible. Modded worlds perform frequent small reads and writes during chunk generation and autosaves.
- Leave operating-system memory and CPU capacity available; allocating every gigabyte to Java can make the host unstable.
- Upload speed and latency matter to players connecting from outside your home. A wired connection is preferable to Wi-Fi for the host.
- Check that your internet service permits inbound connections. Carrier-grade NAT can prevent port forwarding even when your router appears correctly configured.
Self-host Plexiglass Mountain with the official FTB files
1. Select and download the server package
Open the Feed The Beast server-files page and select the Plexiglass Mountain release your group will play. The current listing includes release 1.2.4 (ID 2302) and earlier releases. Download the server installer for your operating system. FTB describes its modpacks as server-ready and provides platform-specific downloads or commands.

Do not place the installer in your general Downloads folder if you expect to run more than one pack; separate directories prevent worlds, configs, and libraries from being mixed.
2. Put the installer in the server directory
Move the downloaded installer into the directory you created. On Windows, open PowerShell or Command Prompt in that folder. On Linux or macOS, open a terminal and change into it with cd /path/to/PlexiglassMountainServer. Use the installer command supplied on the FTB page for your platform. A Java archive is commonly started with a command of this form:
java -jar <downloaded-installer-name>.jarUse the exact filename shown on your machine; angle-bracket text above is a placeholder for that filename, not a command to copy literally. Keep the terminal open until the installer finishes and reports that the server files were generated.

3. Complete the generated files and EULA
The installer creates the Forge libraries, launch scripts, configuration directories, and a first set of server files. Start the generated script once so that Minecraft creates eula.txt and the initial configuration. Open that file, read the Minecraft EULA, and change the acceptance line to eula=true only if you agree to the terms. Start the script again after saving the change.

If the script closes immediately, run it from a terminal instead of double-clicking it. The terminal will keep the error visible, allowing you to correct Java paths, permissions, or missing libraries.
4. Configure server.properties
Stop the server before editing configuration. Open server.properties in a plain-text editor and review at least these settings:
- server-port: Keep the default unless another service already uses it. Record the final port for players.
- motd: Set a recognizable name so friends can identify the server in their multiplayer list.
- white-list: Enable it for a private group, then add players with the server console command
whitelist add PlayerName. - online-mode: Leave authentication enabled unless you understand the security consequences of changing it.
- view-distance and simulation-distance: Start conservatively and increase them only after observing tick performance and memory use.
- max-players: Set a realistic limit for your hardware and connection rather than choosing an arbitrary large number.
Do not edit pack configuration files while the server is running. Many files are rewritten during shutdown, and simultaneous edits can be lost.
5. Allocate Java memory deliberately
Open the generated launch script and locate its Java memory arguments, commonly expressed as -Xms (initial heap) and -Xmx (maximum heap). Set values appropriate for the host rather than copying a number from an unrelated modpack. Leave enough memory for the operating system, Java overhead, backups, and any other applications. A server that constantly reaches its maximum heap may stall during chunk generation; a host that has no free system memory can swap or terminate the process.

Change one variable at a time and observe the server console after a restart. Record the working values with the pack release so you can reproduce the setup after a reinstall.
6. Start the server and test locally
Launch the generated script and wait for the console to report that the server has finished loading. Connect from the same machine using localhost and the configured port. Walk a short distance, open containers, and check that the console is not filling with repeating errors. Stop cleanly with the console command stop; terminating the process or closing the terminal can damage the world during a save.
7. Make it reachable to friends
For players on your local network, give them the host computer’s private address and port. For players on the internet, forward the chosen TCP port from your router to the host computer’s private address, allow the server through the operating system firewall, and give friends your public address and port. Reserve the host’s private address in the router so the forwarding rule does not break after a reboot.
Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot, rather than testing only from inside your home. If the external test fails, check the firewall, router rule, public-address changes, and whether your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT. Do not expose unnecessary management ports, and never publish console credentials.

- Have each player install the same launcher profile and Plexiglass Mountain release selected for the server.
- Confirm the Minecraft version and Forge loader shown in the profile match the server’s generated files.
- Allow the launcher to finish downloading every mod before attempting to connect.
- Remove manually added shaders, performance mods, or configuration edits while diagnosing a connection problem.
- Distribute the server address and port only after the local server test succeeds.
“Mismatched mod list” or registry errors usually mean that a client has a different pack release, an incomplete download, or a modified configuration. Compare the launcher profile version first, then compare the server’s mods and configuration directories with a clean client installation.

Managed hosting options
StickyPiston Plexiglass Mountain hosting
StickyPiston advertises pre-installed Plexiglass Mountain 1.2.4 hosting for Minecraft 1.18.2. Its service includes instant setup, a control panel, world uploads, configuration editing, whitelist and co-owner controls, updates, backups, and managed support. The provider states: “Memory Guideline Start with 6GB of RAM, minimum tested for smooth server performance.” Treat that as vendor guidance, not a universal requirement; actual needs change with player activity, loaded chunks, view distance, and other mods.
A managed instance is useful when nobody in the group wants to maintain Java, router rules, or a 24-hour home computer. Before ordering, confirm the exact pack release, Minecraft version, available region, backup retention, cancellation terms, and whether you can download a complete world backup.
CurseForge hosted-server workflow
CurseForge Support describes an in-app hosted-server purchase powered by Shockbyte and billed through Tebex. Its guide, modified 8 September 2026, says that after provisioning the server card exposes the IP address, port, and management controls. The owner can share a direct link or import code that installs the server profile, modpack, and connection information in friends’ CurseForge apps.
The guide does not establish that Plexiglass Mountain is currently present in the hosting catalog. Check the catalog during checkout and verify the offered Minecraft and pack versions before paying. If the pack is absent, do not substitute a similarly named profile.
Modrinth Hosting as a possible alternative
Modrinth Hosting offers general Java-server plans with Forge support, a file manager, SFTP access, off-site backups, and configurable resources. Its hosting information lists 15 off-site backups and shows plan tiers in 4 GB, 6 GB, and 8 GB classes. Performance depends on the selected mods, data packs, plugins, and player behavior. The documentation does not establish Plexiglass Mountain availability, so treat it as an option only after confirming that the pack and its required Minecraft version can be installed.

No authoritative study establishes a universal RAM-per-player number for Plexiglass Mountain. Memory consumption depends on the number of loaded chunks, exploration speed, world-generation workload, view and simulation distances, entities, automation, and background tasks. Use observed tick time and garbage-collection behavior rather than a generic player formula.

Measure the server after several real sessions. A stable tick rate, responsive block interaction, and a console free of repeated “can’t keep up” warnings are more meaningful than a host’s advertised memory number alone.
Backups, updates, and safe recovery
Back up before every change
Stop the server cleanly, copy the entire world directory, and retain the pack release, Java version, server properties, and configuration directories alongside the backup. Store at least one copy on a different disk or machine. Test a restore on a separate directory; a backup that has never been restored is only an assumption.
Update in a staging copy
When a new pack release appears, duplicate the server directory and test the update there first. Never point a new server at the only copy of a live world. Read the release notes for migration instructions, start the copy, allow required data conversions to finish, and have a player check inventories, dimensions, machines, and quests before scheduling production downtime.
Roll back deliberately
If an update causes crashes or missing content, stop the server, preserve the failed directory for diagnosis, and restore the last known-good world and configuration. Reinstall the matching server release rather than deleting random mods from the new installation; removing a mod can permanently alter registries and world data.

Whichever route you choose, version discipline and tested backups protect the world more effectively than any single hardware specification.
