What you need before starting
A Solo Leveling server is not a vanilla Minecraft server with one optional client mod. The server and every joining player must use the same compatible mod environment. The Solo Leveling: Reawakening project page states: “The mod must be installed on both the server and every joining client.” Treat that as a hard requirement rather than a recommendation.

- Mod loader: Forge 47.2.0
- Java: Java 17
- Library dependency: GeckoLib 4.4.2 for the cited Reawakening build
- Server files: the matching Solo Leveling: Reawakening server pack, not just a normal client profile
- World type: Regular World for an open server where several players progress together
Check the exact pack version you intend to use before installing. The latest server-pack release listed for this project in the available 2026 listing is dated August 11, 2026. A newer or older file can change the included mods and dependencies, so the ZIP selected for the server must correspond to the profiles installed by your players.
Choose self-hosting or managed hosting
Both approaches can run the same Forge pack. The difference is who operates the machine, networking, updates, backups, and availability.

| Consideration | Self-hosted server | CurseForge Servers |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Install Java, unpack the server ZIP, run Forge setup, accept the EULA, and configure the machine yourself. | Select a supported modpack and server pack, choose a plan and region, enter server details, and purchase. |
| Recurring cost | No hosting subscription is specified; you provide the computer, electricity, storage, and internet connection. | Iron is $12/month, Gold is $24/month, and Diamond is $36/month according to CurseForge Support’s 2026 figures. |
| Published capacity | Depends on your hardware, network, and how heavily the pack runs; no fixed player limit is published for a self-hosted installation. | Iron: 1–5 players with 4 GB RAM and 2 shared CPUs; Gold: 6–15 players with 8 GB RAM and 3 shared CPUs; Diamond: 16–25 players with 12 GB RAM and 4 shared CPUs. |
| File and configuration control | Full access to the world, configuration files, logs, backups, and startup process. | Managed through the host’s control panel and provisioning workflow. |
| Networking | You must make the server reachable to invited players and give them the current address and port. | CurseForge describes the service as requiring no manual file uploads or port forwarding for supported server packs. |
| Backups and maintenance | You are responsible for backups, updates, recovery, uptime, and keeping the machine online. | The service handles provisioning; confirm the exact backup, restore, and update options offered for your region and plan. |
| Friend onboarding | Send the address and port, then help each player install the identical profile. | Share a direct link or import code that adds the server profile, modpack, IP, and connection information in the friend’s CurseForge app. |
Self-host when you want direct access to every file and are comfortable maintaining a Java server. Choose the managed route when avoiding router configuration and manual deployment is worth a monthly fee. CurseForge says its hosted service is powered by Shockbyte and supports approximately 9,000 modpacks; availability can vary by region and by whether a pack has a usable server pack.
Self-hosting: complete setup procedure
1. Prepare a dedicated server machine
Use a computer that can remain online while friends play and that has enough free storage for the server files, world data, logs, and backups. A dedicated directory keeps the installation separate from your normal client instances. Avoid putting the live world in a folder that is synchronized, automatically cleaned, or routinely modified by another launcher.
Install Java 17 on that machine. If several Java versions are installed, make sure the Forge start script resolves to Java 17 rather than an older runtime or a newer version unsupported by this pack. Verify the Java version in the operating system before troubleshooting Forge; a wrong runtime is one of the fastest ways to produce an apparently mysterious startup failure.
2. Download the matching server pack
Open the Solo Leveling: Reawakening project’s files and select the server-pack ZIP for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge. The listing exposes a file named Solo_Leveling_Reawakening_Server_Pack.zip. Do not substitute an arbitrary client profile: a server pack is prepared with the server-side files and structure needed for multiplayer deployment.
Record the pack version you chose. Every player should install that same version, including the same Forge build and dependency versions. If you change the server pack later, stop the server, make a backup, and coordinate the client update before anyone reconnects.

3. Unpack and run Forge setup
- Create a dedicated server directory and extract the contents of
Solo_Leveling_Reawakening_Server_Pack.zipinto it. - Run the included Forge server installer or start script from that directory. Follow the files supplied by the selected pack rather than mixing in scripts from a different version.
- Start the server once. The first launch generates configuration files, libraries, and the initial world structure; it may take longer than later starts.
- When Minecraft creates the EULA file, open it, read the terms, and set the EULA acceptance exactly as required before starting again.
- Start the server a second time and watch the console for a completed Forge startup and a message indicating that the server is ready for connections.
Keep the console visible during the first successful launch. Missing libraries, a malformed configuration, or an incompatible mod normally appears in the log before a player ever tries to connect.

Stop the server cleanly before editing files. In server.properties, set the options that define how your group will play:
- Server name: use a recognizable name so players select the correct entry.
- Difficulty: choose the level appropriate for your group before the world becomes established.
- View distance and simulation distance: balance the area players can see and the amount of active world processing your machine can handle.
- Whitelist: enable it for a private group and add each approved player.
- Online mode: keep the authentication setting appropriate for a normal authenticated Java server; changing it has security and identity consequences.
Grant operator status only to trusted administrators. Operator permissions can change the world, alter rules, and bypass normal progression, so do not hand them out merely because someone is helping with setup.
5. Select the right world mode
Solo Leveling: Reawakening’s guide distinguishes Story Mode from Regular World. Story Mode follows one main story player, which can make it a poor fit when several friends expect equal access to an open world. Select Regular World for the normal shared-server experience.
Choose the world type before generating the permanent world. If you create the wrong mode, changing configuration later may not convert an existing world’s progression cleanly. For a fresh installation, make the choice before the first world is generated; for an established installation, back up the entire world before experimenting.
Rank #3
6. Install matching clients
Each player should create or import a CurseForge profile for the exact Solo Leveling: Reawakening version used by the server. The profile must contain Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.2.0, the same Solo Leveling files, and GeckoLib 4.4.2 where required by that build.
Do not let one player add a “helpful” extra mod while everyone else remains on the original set. A client can fail the handshake because of one missing, extra, or differently versioned mod. Have players close Minecraft after installing the profile, reopen that profile, and confirm they are launching the Forge instance rather than an unmodded 1.20.1 profile.
7. Make the server reachable
Start the configured server and give invited players its current address and port. A self-hosted server has to be reachable from outside the host machine’s local network; the exact networking steps depend on the router, operating system, firewall, and internet provider. Allow the Java server process through the host firewall and configure the router according to its documentation if local players can connect but remote players cannot.
Keep the address private if the server is whitelisted. Never publish administrative credentials or grant operator status to solve a connection problem. When the public address changes, send the new address to players rather than asking them to guess which entry is current.
8. Back up before inviting everyone
Stop the server cleanly, copy the world directory and configuration files to a separate location, and test that the copy can be read. Keep at least one backup from before major modpack updates or world changes. A backup that has never been checked is not a recovery plan; periodically verify that the files are present and that you know how to restore them.

Managed setup with CurseForge Servers
CurseForge’s hosted workflow is designed for a server pack that the service supports. CurseForge describes the process as selecting a modpack and matching server pack, choosing a plan and region, entering server details, and purchasing. It is a useful alternative when you do not want to maintain a machine or configure port forwarding.
- Open CurseForge Servers and choose Solo Leveling: Reawakening only if the supported listing includes the intended server-pack version.
- Select the matching server pack, not a similarly named client file.
- Choose a region close to most players. Physical distance affects latency, so a region central to your group is usually preferable to one chosen only for price.
- Select a plan based on your expected player count and the pack’s memory needs.
- Enter the server name and other requested details, then complete provisioning.
- Wait for the host to finish creating the instance before attempting to import or join it. If provisioning stalls, check the deployment status and the selected pack version rather than repeatedly purchasing another instance.
- After the server is online, use the direct share link or import code supplied by CurseForge. A friend’s app can then receive the server profile, modpack, IP, and connection information together.
The published 2026 plans are:
| Plan | Monthly price | Memory | Shared CPUs | Published player range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Iron | $12/month | 4 GB | 2 | 1–5 players |
| Gold | $24/month | 8 GB | 3 | 6–15 players |
| Diamond | $36/month | 12 GB | 4 | 16–25 players |
These are the figures published by CurseForge Support in 2026. They are plan specifications, not a guarantee that every modpack will perform identically at the top of its range. CurseForge notes that larger or heavier packs can need a larger tier because memory use rises with mod count. If the pack grows or your group regularly reaches the upper end of a range, leave headroom instead of selecting the smallest plan solely by price.
How friends join without version errors
Self-hosted invitation
- Confirm the server is running and has completed Forge startup.
- Send the current address and port to people on your whitelist.
- Tell every player to launch the exact imported or manually installed Forge profile for the server’s pack version.
- Have players connect from Minecraft Java Edition’s multiplayer screen, not from a vanilla profile.
If a player can see the server but receives a mod-list error, stop trying different addresses. The network path is working; compare the client’s profile, Forge version, and dependency files with the server.
CurseForge share link or import code
On a managed server, share the generated link or import code rather than copying individual mod files. CurseForge says this method adds the server profile, pack, IP, and connection information to a friend’s app, reducing transcription mistakes. The friend still needs a compatible CurseForge installation and must allow the app to install the supplied profile before joining.

The server will not start
- Confirm the host is using Java 17.
- Confirm the installation targets Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge 47.2.0.
- Check that the required GeckoLib version, 4.4.2 for the cited build, is present.
- Make sure you unpacked the server pack and ran its included Forge installer or start script from the intended directory.
- Read the first meaningful error in the console instead of focusing on the final shutdown message; later errors are often consequences.
A client reports a mod-list mismatch
Compare the server pack version and the client profile side by side. The server and every joining client need the same modpack version and dependency set. Remove unapproved additions, replace stale files, and verify that the player is launching Forge 47.2.0 for Minecraft 1.20.1. Restart both sides after correcting the files so no old process remains in memory.
Best Value
The world loads but progression is wrong
Check whether the world was created as Story Mode or Regular World. Story Mode is organized around one main story player, while Regular World is the multiplayer choice described by the pack guide. Review the selected world rules and make a backup before changing anything on an established save.

Friends cannot connect
- For self-hosting, verify that the address and port are current, the server process is running, and the firewall and router allow the Java server.
- For managed hosting, use the host’s current address or the CurseForge share link/import code rather than an old bookmark.
- Confirm the friend installed the matching profile and is not launching vanilla Minecraft.
- If local players connect but remote players fail, investigate reachability and port configuration; if nobody connects, return to the server console and version checks.
Hosted provisioning uses the wrong files or stalls
Check the selected server-pack version and the instance’s provisioning status. CurseForge documents troubleshooting for an incorrect server pack and for provisioning delays. Do not copy a client-only profile over the hosted instance; correct the selected server pack through the host’s workflow.
Safe operating practices for a long-running world
- Stop the server cleanly before copying or replacing world files.
- Back up the world and configuration before changing the modpack version, world mode, or major server settings.
- Keep the server pack version written down so every player updates from the same target.
- Restrict the whitelist and operator permissions to the people who need them.
- Keep the current address and connection instructions in one private group message so old details are easy to replace.
- When diagnosing a failure, change one variable at a time: Java, Forge, pack version, dependency set, or network configuration.
Recommended setup for most groups
For a small group that wants control and already has a dependable always-on computer, self-host the August 11, 2026-or-later matching server pack, using Java 17, Forge 47.2.0, Minecraft 1.20.1, and the required GeckoLib version. Select Regular World, enable a whitelist, and keep tested backups.
For a group that wants friends to install the matching profile with minimal networking work, use CurseForge Servers with the supported server pack and a region near the players. Choose Iron only for the published 1–5-player range and light usage; move to Gold or Diamond when your player count or modpack memory needs justify it. In either case, version matching remains non-negotiable: managed hosting removes much of the server administration, but it does not allow incompatible client files.
