To host an All the Mons server, first identify the exact pack release and copy its Minecraft version, loader, Cobblemon build, Java requirement, and server-package instructions. Install that same release on every client and on the server; then allocate enough memory, open access if you are hosting at home, and test with a second player before inviting anyone else.

All the Mons is a modpack built around Cobblemon, a Minecraft Java Edition mod. Cobblemon is not available for Bedrock Edition. The official installation documentation currently identifies Minecraft 1.21.1, but that does not prove that every All the Mons release uses 1.21.1. The pack’s own project page is the authority for the release you intend to run.

Confirm the All the Mons release before downloading anything
Modded Minecraft servers are exact-match systems. A client can be on the right Minecraft version and still fail to connect if the loader, Cobblemon build, dependency versions, or configuration files differ. Do not begin by downloading a generic Cobblemon server and adding All the Mons files at random.
Record the five compatibility details
- All the Mons release: note the precise version or profile name shown on the pack’s official project page.
- Minecraft version: record the version listed for that release. Cobblemon’s current official installation page shows 1.21.1, but the pack may target another supported release.
- Loader: identify whether the pack uses Fabric or NeoForge. Do not mix Fabric and NeoForge files.
- Cobblemon build: write down the exact Cobblemon version required by the pack.
- Java and server packaging: record the Java requirement and whether the maintainer supplies a dedicated server pack or server-install procedure.
If any of these details are missing, stop and consult the pack maintainer’s documentation. The exact All the Mons manifest, server-package filename, loader, and Java requirement are not established here, so naming one would risk giving you an incompatible installation.

What Cobblemon requires
Cobblemon is a Java Edition mod. The official project supports Fabric and NeoForge distributions, and the client and server must use compatible releases, the same loader, and the same required dependencies. A Bedrock client cannot join this type of server.
The official Cobblemon Fabric distribution includes a server package and states that it can connect with vanilla Cobblemon clients and servers. That confirms a supported server path for that official distribution; it does not prove that All the Mons publishes an identical package. Use the All the Mons project instructions whenever they differ.

For Fabric installations, the official Cobblemon listing identifies Fabric API as a required dependency. For Forge-family installations, including NeoForge, it identifies Kotlin as a required dependency in the relevant path. All the Mons may add many more libraries, so treat the pack manifest as the complete list rather than copying only Cobblemon’s base dependencies.
Memory, CPU and storage planning
Memory needs depend on the pack, world size, view distance, number of players, and what else is running on the machine. The figures below are published recommendations, not a player-capacity benchmark.
| Use case | Published memory guidance | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Official Cobblemon Fabric pack | At least 2.5 GB | Minimum starting allocation stated by the Cobblemon Official Modpack [Fabric] listing. |
| Official Cobblemon Fabric pack, preferred performance target | 3 GB or more | The same listing recommends 3 GB or more for best performance. |
| Community 1.21.1 NeoForge server guide | About 8 GB dedicated memory | A community starting point for a 1.21.1 NeoForge Cobblemon server, not an All the Mons requirement. |
Start with the pack’s own guidance when it provides one. The 2.5 GB and 3 GB figures describe the official Cobblemon Fabric pack, not necessarily the larger All the Mons collection. A modpack with additional world-generation, structure, map, or utility mods may need more memory. Increase the allocation only after checking the pack documentation and observing server behavior; there is no published independent benchmark here that converts a memory size into a guaranteed player count.
Leave memory for the operating system and other services. On a home computer, assigning almost all physical RAM to Java can make both the server and the host unstable. Fast storage helps world-generation pauses, while a stable CPU matters when several chunks are generated simultaneously, but the supplied guidance does not establish a particular processor, disk type, or storage quota.

Install the exact client pack
Every player should install the same All the Mons release through the launcher or distribution named by its project page. Official Cobblemon documentation supports Modrinth, Prism, and CurseForge launchers; use whichever one actually distributes your chosen All the Mons release.
- Open the pack’s official project page and select the intended release, not merely the newest file.
- Check the listed Minecraft version, loader, Cobblemon version, Java requirement, and any notes about optional content.
- Install that release in the supported launcher. Keep the pack in its own instance so another modpack cannot alter its files.
- Launch once without connecting to a server. This creates the instance folders and exposes missing-dependency or Java errors before multiplayer troubleshooting begins.
- Close the game and keep the instance on the exact release. Do not let the launcher silently update clients while the server remains on an older pack.
Players joining your server should use the same release profile. A plain vanilla client, a different Cobblemon build, or a profile using the opposite loader will normally be rejected or will behave unpredictably.
Prepare the server package
Use a dedicated All the Mons server package when one exists
A published server package is the safest route because it normally contains the matching loader, libraries, configuration, and startup structure. Download it from the All the Mons project page, not from an unrelated upload. Read the package’s included instructions before changing files.
- Create a new, empty server directory with enough free storage for the initial world and future backups.
- Extract the matching All the Mons server package into that directory.
- Install the Java version specified by the pack maintainer. Do not substitute a different Java release merely because another Minecraft installation uses it.
- Run the supplied startup script or command. On the first launch, the server may stop and create an end-user license agreement file.
- Open the license file, review its terms, and set the agreement as required before starting again.
- Accept the generated server properties only after confirming that the pack has created the expected directories and mod files.
If All the Mons has no server package
Follow the maintainer’s documented server procedure. Some packs provide a server-install script; others require installing the loader first and then copying a curated set of mods and configuration files. Remove client-only mods only when the pack documentation tells you which ones are client-only. Guessing can remove required libraries or leave a server with an incompatible configuration.
The official Cobblemon Fabric listing’s server package demonstrates that a server distribution can be maintained separately from the client, but it is not evidence that All the Mons can use that package unchanged. Never combine a generic Cobblemon server folder with an All the Mons client unless the pack maintainer explicitly supports that arrangement.
Make server and clients identical
Connection failures are usually version or dependency mismatches. Compare the server’s files with a clean client instance before inviting players.

| Item to compare | Required outcome | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft version | Exactly the version listed for the All the Mons release | Using the current Cobblemon version while the pack targets another Minecraft release |
| Loader | Fabric on both sides or NeoForge on both sides | Installing a Fabric client against a NeoForge server |
| Cobblemon | Same compatible build | Updating the mod on one side only |
| Required libraries | Every dependency named by the pack is present in the correct version | Copying only the Cobblemon jar and omitting loader libraries |
| Configuration and data packs | Use the pack’s supplied configuration unless the maintainer documents a change | Replacing configs with files from another modpack |
| Java | Use the release’s documented Java requirement | Assuming a Java version from a different Minecraft instance will work |
When the launcher offers an export, compare the exported manifest with the server package or server-install instructions. Do not “fix” a mismatch by downloading a similarly named file from a search result; mod and loader filenames can look alike while targeting different versions.
Start, configure and secure the world
Run the pack’s supplied startup command from the server directory so relative paths resolve correctly. Keep the console visible during the first start. Watch for missing-library, wrong-Java, or invalid-mod errors before changing gameplay settings.
Set the basic server options
- Choose a world name and difficulty appropriate for your group.
- Set the maximum player count conservatively until the server has been observed under real use.
- Keep a whitelist enabled if the address will be shared outside your household.
- Grant operator permissions only to people who need administrative commands.
- Change view or simulation distance only after confirming that memory and CPU usage remain stable.
All the Mons may add its own configuration files, permissions, world-generation settings, or Pokémon-spawn behavior. Read the pack documentation before editing them. A setting copied from a different Cobblemon release can prevent startup or produce a world that cannot be safely downgraded.
Let friends connect from outside your home
Home hosting
A home server must be reachable from the internet, not merely visible on your local network. Allow the Java server through the operating system firewall, configure the router to forward the server’s listening port to the host computer, and give friends the reachable address privately. The exact port and address format come from the server configuration and your network provider; do not publish a private address or expose an unprotected administrative panel.
- Assign the host computer a stable local address so the router rule does not point to a different device later.
- Create the firewall exception for the Java server process or configured listening port.
- Create the router’s port-forwarding rule to the host computer’s stable local address.
- Restart the server and test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot. Testing only from the host’s own network can hide forwarding or carrier-grade NAT problems.
- Give trusted players the external address and port privately, and remove the forwarding rule if you stop hosting publicly.
Some internet providers do not offer a directly reachable public address. If outside testing fails despite correct firewall and router settings, ask the provider whether inbound connections are blocked or whether the connection uses carrier-grade NAT. A managed host avoids those home-network steps.
Managed hosting
A managed Minecraft host supplies a control panel and normally handles server process startup, port exposure, Java selection, storage, and routine backups. Before paying, verify that it supports the exact All the Mons loader and release, permits the required server files, and gives you enough memory for the pack. Offers, locations, prices, and supported versions change, so check the provider’s current terms rather than relying on an old recommendation.

Self-hosting versus managed hosting
| Decision factor | Self-hosting at home | Managed Minecraft hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Cost pattern | Uses existing hardware and electricity; no hosting subscription is required | Recurring hosting charge; plan price and resources vary by provider |
| File and mod control | Direct access to every file, script, configuration, and backup | Usually available through a panel or file manager, subject to the provider’s policy |
| Public access | Requires firewall and router configuration and a reachable internet connection | Port exposure is normally handled by the host |
| Java selection | You install and maintain the Java version required by the pack | The panel may offer Java choices; confirm the required version is available |
| Uptime | Depends on your power, hardware, network, and home maintenance | Depends on the provider’s infrastructure and service terms |
| Support for All the Mons | You troubleshoot the pack and operating system yourself | Confirm support for the exact release, loader, and server package before purchase |
Choose home hosting when you want maximum control and already have a suitable machine and reliable connection. Choose managed hosting when port forwarding, Java maintenance, or keeping a computer online is the larger burden. Neither option removes the need to match the pack’s files and maintain backups.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Back up before updates
World data is valuable, and modpack updates can change terrain, entities, configuration, or save formats. The community Cobblemon guide specifically recommends a complete backup before updates.
- Stop the server cleanly from the console; do not copy a live world while files are being written.
- Back up the world directory, including all dimensions.
- Back up player data, server configuration, permissions, scripts, and any custom data or resource packs.
- Store at least one copy outside the live server directory.
- Record the old All the Mons release beside the backup so you know which files created it.
- Update the server package and every client together.
- Start the updated server and inspect the console before allowing players to join.
If the update fails, stop the server, preserve the failed directory for diagnosis, and restore the pre-update backup rather than repeatedly launching the same damaged world. Do not downgrade a world until the pack maintainer documents that the change is safe.
Test before inviting the group
Use a second player account or trusted friend on a separate connection. A server that starts locally can still fail at login, world generation, or gameplay.
- Connect with the exact All the Mons client release.
- Join the world and confirm terrain and structures generate without repeated errors.
- Verify that Pokémon spawn as expected and that capture, storage, and battles work.
- Check permissions: ordinary players should not receive operator commands.
- Disconnect and reconnect to confirm player data persists.
- Restart the server and confirm the world, Pokémon, inventories, and configuration survive.
- Watch memory and console logs during the test; record the time and action if an error appears.
This checklist is a recommended procedure, not a published benchmark. No independent player-capacity or uptime test establishes how many users a particular All the Mons build can support.

The server stops immediately
Read the first meaningful error in the console, not only the final shutdown line. Wrong Java, a missing loader library, a client-only mod, or a malformed configuration can all stop startup. Recheck the pack’s Java requirement and restore the original server package files before making one change at a time.

Friends cannot connect, but local players can
Retest from a different network. Then verify the host computer’s local address, firewall rule, router forwarding target, and configured port. If those are correct, investigate whether the internet provider blocks inbound connections or uses carrier-grade NAT. A managed host removes the home-router portion of this diagnosis.
World generation is slow or the server lags
Confirm that the server has the memory recommended for the pack, leave capacity for the operating system, and reduce view or simulation distance before adding more memory blindly. Check whether a large number of players are generating new terrain simultaneously. The official Cobblemon figures of 2.5 GB minimum and 3 GB or more preferred apply to its official Fabric pack; the community 8 GB figure applies to a 1.21.1 NeoForge starting guide, not automatically to All the Mons.
An update appears to erase progress
Stop immediately and restore the complete pre-update backup, including dimensions and player data. Confirm that the updated server is using the intended world directory and that the client and server release labels match. Do not continue testing on the only copy of the original world.
What Cobblemon does—and does not—provide
Cobblemon is a mod project, not a single official public server. Its project listing explicitly states: “Notice: Cobblemon does NOT have an official server.” The project directs players toward public servers or paid hosting, but the All the Mons maintainer’s own release instructions still determine the correct server files and compatibility requirements.
