To import a resource pack into Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, open its .mcpack file with Minecraft, wait for the import confirmation, then activate the pack in the world where you want to use it. Importing adds the pack to the game; it does not automatically enable it for every world.
Import a .mcpack file into Minecraft Bedrock
- Download the pack. Get a Bedrock-compatible pack from its source and note where the
.mcpackfile is saved. Microsoft describes.mcpackas a zipped resource or behavior pack format for transferring packs between users: Microsoft Learn’s pack-format documentation. - Open the file with Minecraft. On Windows, open the downloaded file. On Android, locate it in the device’s file browser and select it. On iOS, tap the file and choose Minecraft if the device offers an app chooser. The exact prompt may differ by platform and OS version. Minecraft Help’s installation instructions cover the import flow.
- Wait for the import notification. Minecraft displays a notification when the pack imports successfully. If it does not, see the troubleshooting steps below.
- Activate the pack for a world. Importing and activating are separate actions; select the pack under that world’s Resource Packs settings.
Activate the pack for the right destination
New world
- Choose Create New World.
- Open Resource Packs and activate the imported pack before creating the world.
Existing world
- Open the world’s edit controls.
- Select Resource Packs, find the pack under Available, and activate it.
Menu labels can vary slightly by platform or game version. Minecraft Help documents the world setup and pack activation process in its add-on installation guide.
Realm
Edit the Realm world slot and activate the pack under Add-Ons. Players joining from Bedrock devices automatically download and apply the Realm’s activated add-ons, according to Minecraft Help.
Know which file you have

Find content from the Marketplace
If you got the content through Minecraft Marketplace rather than as a downloaded file, open Marketplace > My Library to find owned or Marketplace Pass content and use its available download or use option. Marketplace content is a separate route from opening a third-party .mcpack file. See Minecraft Help’s Marketplace FAQ and the Minecraft Marketplace.
Troubleshoot a pack that will not appear or work

- Restart Minecraft and let any file updates finish.
- Update the game.
- Confirm the pack is active for the world you are testing; an imported pack may remain inactive.
- If several packs change the same asset, reorder them and test whether their priority affects the result.
- Check for add-on conflicts. Disable optional packs one at a time to identify a conflict.
- Redownload the pack if it appears to be corrupted or missing required files.
- Test the pack in a new world to see whether the issue is tied to an existing world.
Back up an established world before disabling packs
Disabling an add-on on an existing world can remove its mobs or replace its blocks with default blocks. Make a backup before changing the pack setup, and remove optional packs one at a time so you can identify which one causes a problem. Minecraft Help explains these risks in its add-on troubleshooting guidance.
