On PC, the Xbox app is the primary download route. If a title supports Xbox Cloud Gaming and your plan, device, and region allow it, you may be able to stream it without installing.
Before you install: check the game, platform, and plan
Game Pass availability depends on the title, platform, subscription plan, and region. A game listed for Xbox console is not necessarily available to install on PC. Check the game’s listing for the platform you intend to use and confirm it is included with your current plan before starting the download. Xbox notes that its catalog, features, and availability can change over time and vary by region, plan, and platform. Check the PC Game Pass catalog and details.

PC Game Pass requires Windows 10 or Windows 11, version 22H2 or higher, and the Xbox app. Make sure you are using the Microsoft account associated with the subscription that provides access.
Install from the Xbox app
- Open the Xbox app on your PC and sign in with the Microsoft account that has eligible Game Pass access.
- Browse the Game Pass section and select a title whose listing confirms PC availability and inclusion with your plan.
- Choose Install and follow the prompts in the app.
- When the download and installation finish, launch the game from the Xbox app or Windows.
The game’s listing may also show whether cloud play is available. If it is supported for your plan, device, and region, streaming can let you start without waiting for a local download.

Install locally or play through the cloud?
| Consideration | Install the game | Stream with cloud gaming |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | The game must be available for your device, plan, and region. | The specific title and your plan, device, and region must support cloud play. |
| Network | Download requires a connection; Xbox says downloaded Game Pass titles can be played offline, subject to access rules. | Streaming requires network access during play. |
| Storage and waiting | Uses device storage and requires time to download and install. | Avoids the local installation step for supported games. |
| Input | Use a controller or another input method supported by the game. | A compatible controller may be used, but a controller is not universally required; input support depends on the game. |
Xbox’s December 19, 2025 cloud-gaming guide explains that Game Pass titles can also be downloaded to a console, PC, or handheld device for offline play. Offline access does not guarantee continuing entitlement: the subscription and catalog rules still apply. Read Xbox’s cloud gaming guide.

What happens if your subscription ends or a game leaves Game Pass?

Downloading a game for offline play does not override those access limits. Microsoft’s digital goods usage rules describe these limits.
