Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteInstall infiSTAR by using the files and instructions in the package you downloaded from the infiSTAR server dashboard. In the standard ArmA 3 layout, you configure infiSTAR_config.sqf, turn the a3_infiSTAR folder into a3_infiSTAR.pbo, place the finished package where your server’s mod controls expect it, and set the same command password in infiSTAR and the server’s Config.cfg. The separate Vision client has different startup instructions, so do not copy its launch parameter into a standard installation.

Identify the infiSTAR package before changing the server
The infiSTAR download area can provide more than one ArmA 3 product. The standard package is the ArmA 3 in-game administration and anti-hack tool. Vision is a separate client and has its own documented startup entry. Your first task is to identify which archive you downloaded, because the folder layout, launch settings and any client-side files can differ between releases.

| Package | What the available instructions establish | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Standard ArmA 3 infiSTAR | The archive contains a server package with an a3_infiSTAR folder. The usual workflow is to edit infiSTAR_config.sqf, create a3_infiSTAR.pbo, deploy it and start the server using the current package directions. |
There is no single launch command proven to work for every host, operating system or package revision. |
| Vision client | The vendor FAQ documents a Vision-specific server-mod parameter: -serverMod=@infiSTAR_A3_vision;. It also says to restart after setup. |
This parameter is not a universal instruction for the standard package. |
Keep the archive’s README or FAQ with the files while you work. Folder names can change between releases; if the current download differs from the path shown below, follow the files included with that release rather than forcing an older layout.
Access and information you need
Installation is simplest when you can download the package, edit the server’s configuration, upload or copy files into the server installation, and control the server’s startup parameters. A managed host may expose these functions through a web panel instead of a file browser or command line. The panel’s labels will vary, but the underlying tasks remain the same.

- The infiSTAR archive obtained through the vendor’s server dashboard.
- Access to the server’s
Config.cfg(the server configuration file). - A way to stop and restart the server and to set server-mod or equivalent startup options when the package instructions require them.
- The administrator UID or UIDs that should be recognized by infiSTAR.
- A private server-command password that you can enter in both configuration locations. Never publish the real value in screenshots, guides or support posts.
Stop the server before replacing package files or editing its configuration. Keep a copy of the original archive and your current configuration so you can restore a known-good state if a release changes its structure.
Locate the standard server files
In the vendor’s indexed standard ArmA 3 instructions, the relevant path inside the extracted archive is:
infiSTAR.de_A3SERVER_ARMA3_FOLDER@infiSTAR_A3addonsa3_infiSTAR
SERVER_ARMA3_FOLDER is a placeholder for the server folder supplied in the archive. Do not create a second, similarly named directory just because your host uses a different root path. Open the package you actually downloaded and identify the directory that contains @infiSTAR_A3, then continue into addons and a3_infiSTAR.
If your release uses different names, treat the current included instructions as authoritative. The important distinction is between the source folder named a3_infiSTAR and the packed file that you will create from it, a3_infiSTAR.pbo.

Install infiSTAR step by step
1. Extract the archive without changing its internal structure
- Download the package from the infiSTAR server dashboard.
- Extract it to a temporary working directory on your computer or administration machine.
- Open the extracted tree and find
@infiSTAR_A3addonsa3_infiSTARunder the supplied server folder. - Read the release’s README or FAQ before copying anything. If its path or deployment method differs from the historical layout above, use the release-specific directions.
Do not rename files to make them look familiar. A changed filename can prevent the server from loading the component or make later support diagnosis harder.

2. Configure administrators and package settings
Open infiSTAR_config.sqf inside the a3_infiSTAR package. Add the intended administrator UID values to the package’s AdminUID(s) setting and review the other settings for your server. The infiSTAR FAQ states: “Open the infiSTAR_config.sqf file and add your AdminUID(s), then configure the different settings for your server. – do not edit other files.”
That instruction is deliberately narrow. Make your changes in infiSTAR_config.sqf only unless the current release’s own documentation explicitly directs another edit. Preserve the existing quotation marks, commas, brackets and variable names in the file. A syntax error can stop the configuration from being read even when every UID is correct.
Enter each UID exactly as supplied by your administration process. If more than one person needs access, use the format already present in the downloaded file rather than inventing a new list structure. Keep a private record of who each UID belongs to so that you can remove access when staff roles change.
3. Set and match the server-command password
infiSTAR uses a server-command password, and the value in its configuration must match serverCommandPassword in the Arma 3 server’s Config.cfg. If serverCommandPassword is absent, the vendor instructions say to add it. Use one private value in both places.

| Setting | Where it belongs | Purpose in this installation |
|---|---|---|
serverCommandPassword |
The server’s Config.cfg |
The command password that must match the value expected by infiSTAR. |
| infiSTAR command-password setting | infiSTAR_config.sqf |
The package-side copy of the same password. |
passwordAdmin |
The server’s configuration, where defined | A separate Arma 3 setting; it is not interchangeable with serverCommandPassword. |
Do not assume that changing passwordAdmin satisfies the infiSTAR requirement. Bohemia’s configuration terminology treats these as separate settings. After editing, check for accidental spaces, mismatched quotation marks and a value copied into only one of the two required locations. Keep the password out of public logs, images and paste sites.
4. Create a3_infiSTAR.pbo
The standard FAQ instructs you to turn the a3_infiSTAR folder into a packed file named a3_infiSTAR.pbo. The available instructions do not require a particular commercial packing utility, so use a PBO tool you already trust or the method specified in the package’s current documentation.
- Make sure your edited
infiSTAR_config.sqfis inside the sourcea3_infiSTARfolder. - Pack that folder, preserving its internal directory tree.
- Verify that the output filename is exactly
a3_infiSTAR.pbo, nota3_infiSTAR.pbo.pboor a similarly renamed file. - Keep the unpacked source folder in your private working copy, but deploy the packed file in the location required by the release instructions.
Do not pack the parent addons directory by mistake. The instruction names a3_infiSTAR as the folder to convert into the PBO.
5. Deploy the package using your host’s controls
Copy or upload the resulting package according to the current release instructions and your provider’s server-mod controls. A dedicated server with file access may use the directory structure supplied in the archive. A managed panel may require you to upload the mod, select it in a “server mods” field, or enter a startup option. The exact labels and paths are host-specific.
The indexed standard-package material does not establish one complete command line that is valid for every host. Do not add the Vision parameter merely because it appears in an infiSTAR FAQ. If the standard package’s current README gives a startup argument, use that argument exactly; if your panel provides a mod selector, use the selector and confirm where it places the files.

6. Apply the Vision parameter only to the Vision client
For the separate Vision client, the FAQ identifies -serverMod=@infiSTAR_A3_vision; as its server-mod launch parameter and says to restart after setup. This is a Vision-specific instruction. It should not be presented as the standard ArmA 3 package’s universal startup setting.
If you downloaded Vision, follow the Vision files and release notes, confirm that the corresponding @infiSTAR_A3_vision directory exists, and add the parameter through your host’s startup controls. If you downloaded the standard package, return to its own instructions instead of adding a Vision directory or parameter that is not in your archive.
7. Restart only after configuration and deployment are complete
Save the configuration, upload the package, verify the password match, and then restart the server. A restart is needed for the server to read changed configuration and loaded mod files. If the host panel queues restarts, wait for the panel to report that the previous process has stopped before starting it again.
Mission integration: check before editing
Some vendor FAQ material describes Exile-specific mission integration, including an infiSTAR_AdminMenu.hpp file, a call.fsm entry and an include in description.ext. These edits are not established as required for every mission, every Arma 3 server or every current infiSTAR package.
Check the files included with your exact download and its current documentation before modifying a mission. If the package explicitly supplies an Exile integration file and instructions, apply those edits to the mission version you actually run. If no current instruction calls for them, do not add legacy snippets simply because an older guide contains them. Back up the mission before changing it and keep mission integration separate from the server-side PBO deployment so you can undo one change without losing the other.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Verify that the installation loaded
Verification should answer three separate questions: did the server read the package, did it read the configuration, and does an intended administrator receive the expected access? Use the current vendor support procedure first if the package fails to load.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Confirm that the deployed file has the exact name
a3_infiSTAR.pboand is in the location required by the current package instructions. - Confirm that the edited
infiSTAR_config.sqfwas inside the folder when you created the PBO. - Confirm that the UID entry uses the package’s existing syntax and contains no accidental punctuation or whitespace.
- Confirm that the infiSTAR command-password value and
serverCommandPasswordare identical, whilepasswordAdminremains a separate setting. - Restart the server after all changes.
- Connect with an account whose UID you deliberately added and test only the access appropriate to that account.
If your server produces an RPT file or infiSTAR-specific log, review it after the restart for loading or configuration errors. Historical community instructions point administrators toward the server RPT and infiSTAR logs, but those references are old; use the current vendor support guidance when log locations or filenames differ.
Troubleshooting by symptom
| Symptom | Most useful checks |
|---|---|
| The server starts, but no administrator access appears | Check that the intended UID is in infiSTAR_config.sqf, that the edited file was included before packing, that the PBO name is exact, and that the package is enabled through the host’s current mod controls. |
| The package appears to load but commands fail | Compare the infiSTAR password with serverCommandPassword character for character. Do not substitute passwordAdmin. Restart after correcting either value. |
| The server reports a missing or malformed package | Check whether you packed the a3_infiSTAR folder itself, preserved its internal tree, and avoided a double .pbo extension. Re-read the release’s README if its folder names differ. |
| A Vision setup does not work | Confirm that you actually downloaded Vision, that @infiSTAR_A3_vision exists, and that -serverMod=@infiSTAR_A3_vision; was entered in the correct startup field. Do not use this parameter for a standard installation. |
| An Exile mission breaks after an edit | Restore the mission backup, remove unverified legacy edits, and apply only the integration steps documented for your current package and mission version. |
| No useful error is visible in the panel | Inspect the server RPT and package logs if your host exposes them, then follow the current vendor support process. Panel-specific log paths are not universal. |
Differences between common server setups
| Setup factor | Decision you must make | Safe approach |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated server with full file access | Where the supplied @infiSTAR_A3 tree belongs and how the server loads it. |
Follow the archive’s directory layout, create the named PBO, and use the server’s documented mod controls. |
| Managed hosting panel | Which upload area and startup field correspond to server mods. | Use the panel’s current labels and ask the provider where server-mod files and parameters are applied; do not assume a command-line path. |
| Standard package | Which release-specific deployment instructions apply. | Use the standard package’s README/FAQ; there is no documented universal command line in the indexed material. |
| Vision client | Whether the Vision directory and parameter are present. | Use the Vision-specific instructions and its documented -serverMod entry only. |
| Exile mission | Whether the current package explicitly requests mission-file integration. | Apply only current, package-specific Exile instructions; do not treat legacy snippets as mandatory. |
Keeping the installation maintainable
Record the version and changes
Keep the downloaded archive, the release documentation and a dated copy of infiSTAR_config.sqf. Record which UIDs were authorized and when the server-command password was changed, without storing the password in a public ticket. This makes a later package update easier to audit.
Recheck structure after updates
Package structure and included files can change. Before replacing an older installation, compare the new archive’s paths with the previous release, read its current README, and migrate only the settings you still need. Recreate a3_infiSTAR.pbo from the new release’s own a3_infiSTAR folder rather than copying an old PBO over it.
Keep product boundaries clear
Standard infiSTAR ArmA 3 and Vision are related but distinct products. A parameter, directory or mission edit documented for one is not automatically valid for the other. Treat the package name, included files and current instructions as the deciding evidence whenever they conflict with an older forum post or guide.
