You need a compatible development or homebrew environment, such as GoldHEN, and a firmware/payload combination it supports. This guide covers the lawful installation of packages you are entitled to use, including the correct USB and FTP workflows.
Before you start
- Activate a compatible GoldHEN environment. GoldHEN documents support for specific firmware versions, including 5.05, 6.71/6.72, 9.00, 9.60, 10.00/10.01 and 11.00; compatibility depends on the complete exploit and payload combination, not simply the PS4 model.
- Use packages you legally own or are authorized to install. GoldHEN distinguishes standard signed packages (
.pkg) from fake-signed packages (.fpkg), which are intended for Debug Settings and GoldHEN’s fake-verification environment. - For game content, install in this order: base game, update, then DLC.
- Keep enough storage available. FTP requires room for the transferred PKG, the installed content and temporary installation data.

Method 1: Install a PKG from USB
1. Prepare the USB drive
Format the USB drive as exFAT where possible; FAT32 is also supported. Copy the PKG file to the drive’s root directory for the simplest scan. GoldHEN can search subdirectories when Enable Search Directories is enabled, but it skips directories whose names begin with a dot, such as .test, and directories containing a .ignore file.

2. Open Package Installer
- Activate GoldHEN.
- Open GoldHEN from the shortcut at the top-left of the PS4 home screen.
- Open Debug Settings.
- Under Package Installer, set Package Source to
Usb [usb:/]. - Open Package Installer.
- Select the PKG you want to install and confirm.
GoldHEN also provides Hdd [hdd:/data/pkg/] and All as Package Source choices. Install all installs every package found by the active source. It is unavailable when Background Installation is enabled.

Useful display options
Enable Show Package Info to display package metadata, or Show Package Path to see where a listed package was found. These options are useful when several base games, updates or DLC files have similar names.
Method 2: Transfer and install a PKG over FTP
FTP does not directly install a PKG. It copies the file to the PS4’s internal storage; Package Installer performs the installation afterward.
1. Start GoldHEN’s FTP server
- Activate GoldHEN.
- Open GoldHEN → Server Settings.
- Enable FTP Server.
- Find the PS4’s address at Settings → System → System Information.
GoldHEN’s documented FTP port is 2121. The separate BinLoader service uses port 9090; you do not need to enable BinLoader for ordinary FTP copying.

2. Connect with FileZilla
Open FileZilla and enter:

Both devices must be connected to the same local network. If FileZilla refuses the connection, try entering any username, then restart the GoldHEN FTP server and FileZilla if necessary.
3. Upload the PKG
Transfer the file to:
/data/pkg/If the pkg directory does not exist under /data, create it. You can also upload from a terminal with:
curl -T /path/to/local/file.pkg ftp://PS4_IP:2121/data/pkg/ --ftp-create-dirsReplace /path/to/local/file.pkg with the local file path and PS4_IP with the PS4’s current IP address. The --ftp-create-dirs option creates the destination directory when needed.

4. Install the transferred file
- Open GoldHEN → Debug Settings → Package Installer.
- Set Package Source to
Hdd [hdd:/data/pkg/]orAll. - Open Package Installer.
- Select the transferred PKG and confirm installation.
If you leave the source set to Usb [usb:/], the PKG in /data/pkg/ will not appear.

Install the base game before its update and DLC. Updates must match the installed game’s Title ID and be compatible with the PS4’s firmware. The ConsoleMods guide notes that retail updates install onto disc or digital retail games, not FPKG games; use package types and combinations appropriate to the game installation you already have.
Troubleshooting
Package Installer is missing
The required GoldHEN payload may not be active, or your firmware/payload combination may be unsupported. A stock retail PS4 does not expose this installer.

The USB list is empty
- Confirm the drive is exFAT or FAT32.
- Set Package Source to
Usb [usb:/]. - Put the PKG in the USB root.
- If it is in a subdirectory, enable Enable Search Directories.
- Check that the directory does not start with a dot and does not contain
.ignore.
The FTP upload works, but the PKG is not listed
Set Package Source to Hdd [hdd:/data/pkg/] or All. The default USB source does not scan the internal FTP destination.
FTP cannot connect
Verify that both devices are on the same LAN, the PS4 IP address is current, and the port is 2121. Restart the GoldHEN FTP server and the FTP client. In FileZilla, entering any username may resolve a connection problem reported by the ConsoleMods procedure.
Installation fails after an FTP transfer
The file may be incomplete or corrupted. Delete the partial PKG from /data/pkg/, transfer it again, and wait for the client to report a completed transfer before installing it.

There is not enough storage
FTP needs space for both the uploaded PKG and the installed result, plus temporary installation data. A drive showing enough free space for the visible PKG size may still be unable to complete the installation.
Install all is unavailable
This is expected when Background Installation is enabled. Disable that option if you need Install all.

GoldHEN’s documented feature history matters when comparing guides. Internal installation from /data/pkg/ was added in version 2.3. Configurable USB, HDD and All sources were added in 2.4b5, and package metadata display was added in 2.4b14. Release notes identify 2.4b17 as a prerelease and document FTP on port 2121, Remote Package Install and internal PKG installation.
Do not assume every menu or firmware combination matches an older tutorial. Check the current GoldHEN documentation and release notes.
About reported network-install errors
A user report describes CE-32918-3 during network or remote installation on firmware 11.50 with GoldHEN 2.4b18.10, while the same package installed from USB. This is an individual report rather than an official universal compatibility notice, so USB is the practical fallback if a network installation fails.
