Yes—you can stream a PS5 to an ASUS ROG Ally. Install Sony’s Windows PS Remote Play app, enable Remote Play on the PS5, sign in with the same PlayStation account, and connect a compatible controller. The important catch is that Sony officially documents DualSense, DualSense Edge, and DUALSHOCK 4 controllers for Windows; the Ally’s built-in Xbox-style controls may not be recognized by the official app.

Does PS Remote Play work on the ROG Ally?

The ROG Ally and ROG Ally X run Windows, so they use the Windows PC version of PS Remote Play, not the Android or iPhone app. The Ally is powerful enough to meet Sony’s basic PC requirements, which include 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11, 2GB of RAM, at least 40MB of storage, a USB port, and a high-speed internet connection.

There are two separate questions here:

  • Can the Ally display and stream the PS5? Yes, through Sony’s Windows application.
  • Will the Ally’s integrated controls work in that application? Not necessarily. Sony does not document the Ally’s built-in controls as supported, and its Xbox/XInput-style input can be problematic.

For the most reliable official setup, connect a DualSense, DualSense Edge, or DUALSHOCK 4 to the Ally. Controller behavior can vary between the original Ally and Ally X depending on Windows, BIOS, firmware, and Armoury Crate SE versions.

What you need

  • An ASUS ROG Ally or Ally X running Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11.
  • A PS5 with current system software.
  • A PlayStation Network account used on the PS5.
  • An internet connection capable of at least 5Mbps upload and download. Sony recommends at least 15Mbps in both directions for better performance.
  • A DualSense, DualSense Edge, or DUALSHOCK 4 for the official Windows app.
  • A USB-C data cable if you want the simplest controller setup.
  • Optional: PS5 Rest Mode settings that allow the console to wake over the network.

A USB-C cable must support data, not charging only. A USB-C dock or Ethernet adapter is optional but useful when diagnosing network problems.

1. Enable Remote Play on the PS5

On the PS5, open:

Settings > System > Remote Play

Turn on Enable Remote Play.

To let Remote Play wake the console from Rest Mode, go to:

Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode

Enable:

  • Stay Connected to the Internet
  • Enable Turning on PS5 from Network

Update the PS5 before testing. The exact wording of some menus can change with system software updates, but these are Sony’s current menu paths.

2. Download and install PS Remote Play on the Ally

  1. Open a browser on the Ally.
  2. Go to Sony’s official PS Remote Play download portal.
  3. Choose the Windows PC download.
  4. Run the downloaded installer.
  5. Follow the installation prompts.
  6. Launch PS Remote Play from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.

Use Sony’s download portal rather than an APK, a repackaged installer, or a third-party download site. The Ally needs the Windows installer.

3. Connect a controller

Best first setup: wired DualSense

  1. Connect the DualSense to the Ally with a USB-C data cable.
  2. Wait for Windows to detect the controller.
  3. Open PS Remote Play.
  4. Sign in and connect to the PS5.

A wired controller is the best baseline because it avoids Bluetooth pairing, battery, and wireless-interference problems. Sony documents USB controller connections for Windows Remote Play.

Bluetooth DualSense

For wireless play, open Windows Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device. Put the DualSense into pairing mode by holding the Create button and PS button until the light bar flashes, then select it in Windows. Sony’s DualSense pairing guide covers compatible Windows Bluetooth connections.

DUALSHOCK 4 or DualSense Edge

Sony also lists DUALSHOCK 4 and DualSense Edge among the controllers supported for Remote Play on Windows. Connect the controller using a compatible USB connection or a Sony-supported wireless method.

4. Sign in and connect to the PS5

  1. Launch PS Remote Play on the Ally.
  2. Select Sign In.
  3. Use the same PlayStation account associated with the PS5.
  4. Select PS5.
  5. Wait while the app searches for and connects to the console.
  6. When the PS5 screen appears, use the connected controller to navigate and start a game.

For the first connection, put the Ally and PS5 on the same local network. Once the setup works locally, test connections over the internet. Remote Play can work when the devices are on different networks, but success depends on the console’s settings, account, NAT, and the upload and download connections at both locations.

Can you use the Ally’s built-in controls?

Possibly, but do not treat it as guaranteed. The Ally’s integrated controls are Xbox/XInput-style controls, while Sony’s Windows documentation names PlayStation controllers rather than generic integrated handheld controls. The official app may connect successfully while ignoring the Ally’s buttons and sticks.

If you want to test the built-in controls:

  1. Confirm that the Ally’s gamepad works in Windows or another game.
  2. Open the Armoury Crate SE Command Center.
  3. Check that Embedded Controller is enabled.
  4. Switch from desktop-oriented controls to the gamepad-oriented control mode.
  5. Close Steam, DS4Windows, DSX, reWASD, and other input or remapping utilities.
  6. Restart PS Remote Play and test again.

ASUS documents disabling the embedded controller when another controller has priority and switching control modes when navigating software. Those settings can resolve conflicts, but they do not establish that Sony’s app officially supports the Ally’s internal controller. If you disable the embedded controller for testing, turn it back on in the Armoury Crate SE Command Center afterward if the Ally’s built-in controls stop responding elsewhere.

If the official app does not recognize the Ally controls

Use these options in order:

  1. Connect a DualSense. This is the official and least complicated solution.
  2. Try the Ally’s other control mode. Recheck Embedded Controller and restart the app.
  3. Remove input conflicts. Temporarily close Steam Input and controller-remapping software. Duplicate virtual controllers can create missing or repeated inputs.
  4. Consider Chiaki-ng. Chiaki-ng is an unofficial, open-source Remote Play client with documentation for controller layouts and configuration. It may offer more flexible mapping for handheld controls, but it is not Sony software and can require more setup.

Remapping tools are a secondary workaround, not part of Sony’s standard installation. They can introduce virtual-controller conflicts, duplicate inputs, or problems with other games. Do not assume that a workaround that functions on one Ally firmware or Windows build will behave identically on another.

Troubleshooting

Problem What to check
PS5 is not found Confirm Remote Play is enabled, both devices use the correct PlayStation account, the PS5 has internet access, and the first test is on the same local network. Check that Rest Mode wake settings are enabled if the console is sleeping.
App connects but the screen is black or unstable Restart both devices, update their software, test locally, use 5GHz Wi-Fi where possible, stop network downloads and streaming, and connect the PS5 to the router by Ethernet if practical.
Streaming is laggy Check upload speed at the PS5’s location and download speed at the Ally’s location. Sony lists 5Mbps in both directions as a minimum and recommends at least 15Mbps for better performance. Reduce Wi-Fi congestion and move closer to the access point.
Remote connection fails away from home Check NAT. Sony warns that NAT Type 3 may prevent Remote Play. UDP port 8572 is used by Remote Play; checking whether it is blocked is a troubleshooting step, not a universal requirement to manually forward the port.
No sound or microphone Check Windows microphone permissions, the selected headset and audio device, PS5 voice-chat settings, and whether connecting a controller changed the active audio device. Sony says a microphone such as the Ally’s built-in microphone is required for voice chat.
Buttons are duplicated or do nothing Close Steam Input, DS4Windows, DSX, reWASD, and similar utilities. Check Armoury Crate SE’s control mode and Embedded Controller setting, then restart PS Remote Play.

If the installation itself appears damaged, uninstall and reinstall the app from Sony’s official portal. Do not promise a fixed resolution, frame rate, or latency: actual performance depends on the network, router, Wi-Fi congestion, console connection, and app behavior.

Can you use PS Remote Play outside your home?

Yes, it can work over the internet, provided the PS5 is configured correctly and both networks allow the connection. Start with a same-network test, then try the Ally from another network. Remote Play is more sensitive to the upload connection where the PS5 is located than ordinary downloads, so a fast connection at the Ally alone is not enough.

Some games and features may not work through Remote Play. Sony notes that certain games are incompatible, and titles requiring specialized peripherals, camera hardware, or VR equipment may be unsuitable.

Official app or Chiaki-ng?

Option Best for Trade-off
Sony PS Remote Play A straightforward first-party setup, especially with a DualSense, DualSense Edge, or DUALSHOCK 4. The Ally’s integrated Xbox-style controls may not be recognized.
Chiaki-ng Users who want more flexible controller mapping and are comfortable with additional configuration. Unofficial software with separate documentation and support.

Do not install PlayStation Portal software or Android APKs on the Ally; neither is the Windows solution for this handheld.

Sources and current compatibility note

This guide reflects Sony and ASUS documentation available as of August 18, 2026. Sony’s Windows requirements and supported-controller list are documented on its PS Remote Play support page. ASUS’s ROG Ally FAQ covers control modes and the embedded controller. Because the original Ally and Ally X can receive different Windows, BIOS, firmware, and Armoury Crate SE updates, check the labels on your current software when troubleshooting.
