To install the latest Minecraft update, use the update method for the device and edition you play: the Minecraft Launcher for Java Edition, Microsoft Store for Minecraft on Windows, the platform’s app store on mobile, or the console’s update controls. The available update can differ by platform, so follow the instructions for your installation rather than looking for one universal version number.
Update Minecraft Java Edition on PC or Mac

Open the Minecraft Launcher.

Check the version selector beside the Play button. The launcher should show the latest release automatically. If it does not, open the selector to the left of Play and choose Latest Release.

Select Play to launch the game with that release.
These instructions apply to Java Edition on PC and Mac. Minecraft’s edition overview identifies Java Edition as PC-only.
Update Minecraft on Windows

Open Microsoft Store.

Select Library, then Get updates.

Install any available update for Minecraft. If the Minecraft Launcher itself needs updating, check the same Store Library for its update.

Minecraft on Windows is Bedrock Edition; the game’s edition overview lists Windows 10 and 11 among its supported platforms.
Update Minecraft on iPhone, iPad, or Android
Mobile devices normally update apps automatically. To update Minecraft manually, find it in the iOS App Store or Google Play and use that store’s app-update controls. The exact controls can vary with the store and device.
To check which version is installed, open Minecraft and read the version number at the bottom-right of the screen. Compare it with the version shown on the Minecraft listing in your app store. Minecraft’s mobile update instructions cover manual updates.

Update Minecraft on a console or Fire TV
Xbox

Open My Apps & Games and select Minecraft.

Open the more-options menu, then choose Manage game & add-ons > Updates.

PlayStation 4
Automatic updates are the expected route. If they are disabled, highlight Minecraft, press the Options button, and choose Check for update.
Nintendo Switch
Start Minecraft and follow the update prompt if one appears. Alternatively, search for Minecraft in the Nintendo eShop.

Find Minecraft in the store and select it to download if it is not installed.

Highlight Minecraft, open the menu, and choose More Info.

Select Update if that option appears.
These console and Fire TV steps follow Minecraft’s update guide. The guide’s PlayStation steps specifically name PS4; they should not be treated as verified PS5 button instructions.

Why the update steps depend on your edition and device
Minecraft has distinct editions and update channels. Java Edition is for PC, while Bedrock is available on Windows 10/11, Xbox One and Series S/X, PS4 and PS5, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS, according to Minecraft’s edition overview. The available update and the way you install it therefore depend on where you play.
If you play on PS5, the cited Minecraft update guide does not provide PS5-specific controls. Use the update options shown by your console rather than assuming the PS4 sequence applies.

For Java Edition, confirm that the Launcher’s version selector is set to Latest Release.

On mobile, compare the in-game version number with the store listing, rather than assuming every device receives the same version at the same moment.
