How to Install the New Roblox – Windows App from the Microsoft Store

The old Windows Store Roblox app is being replaced. Here is how to identify the blue-icon Roblox - Windows app, link your Microsoft/Xbox account, verify your data, troubleshoot installation problems, and safely remove the legacy client.

Install Roblox – Windows—the Microsoft Store app with the blue icon—not the older light-gray Roblox app. Sign in to the new app with the same Roblox account, complete the one-time Microsoft/Xbox linking step, and confirm that your username, avatar, friends, inventory, progress, and Robux are correct. Only then should you uninstall the old app.

This is a client migration for Windows players, not a reset of your Roblox account. Roblox says the legacy Store app will eventually stop working, although its official migration notice does not give a final shutdown date. This guide reflects the Store listing and support information available as of August 10, 2026.

Both applications can appear under a generic Roblox name in Windows after installation. That is why the Store listing name, blue-versus-light-gray icon, and publisher are more useful than a desktop shortcut labeled simply Roblox.

What changed?

Roblox is replacing the older Microsoft Store/UWP client with a newer Microsoft Store client. Roblox staff described the new version in 2025 as the replacement for the legacy UWP app, while the official support notice now directs Windows players to install Roblox – Windows.

Roblox says the new app is intended to provide better stability, reduce crashes, and support future features. Xbox’s announcement also describes improved Windows performance and stability, Microsoft/Xbox integration, Xbox-friend visibility, and support for future Microsoft devices such as the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds.

Those are official product claims, not independent test results. Roblox and Xbox have not published a comparative benchmark establishing a specific frame-rate increase, lower memory use, lower latency, or fewer crashes on every PC. Your results can still vary according to your hardware, graphics capability, network connection, and the individual Roblox experience.

Xbox and Roblox have described the release as bringing Roblox natively to the Microsoft Store and Xbox on PC. That wording should not be read as meaning that Roblox never had a Microsoft Store app: the older UWP/legacy Store app existed before this release. The important change is the replacement of that client with a newer Microsoft/Xbox-integrated one.

Who needs to migrate?

You should follow these steps if you play Roblox on a Windows PC through the old Microsoft Store app, especially if you see a migration notice or the old app has stopped launching. Roblox says Windows players need the new app to continue playing on a Windows computer.

This specific migration does not mean that you need to reinstall Roblox on every device. It concerns the Windows/Microsoft Store client. You do not need to reinstall the mobile, Xbox-console, PlayStation, Mac, or VR versions merely because the Windows Store app changed.

Roblox Studio is separate. Studio is the creation and testing tool, not the player app covered by this migration. Roblox documents Studio and the regular player installation separately in its installation and play instructions.

How to install Roblox – Windows safely

  1. Record your Roblox account details before changing anything. Note the username of the account you currently use and make sure you know how to sign in. If you use more than one account, record each username separately.
  2. Open Microsoft Store from the Windows Start menu.
  3. Search for the exact title Roblox – Windows.
  4. Confirm that the result has the blue icon, is published by Roblox Corporation, and corresponds to product ID 9PMF91N3LZ3M where that information is shown.
  5. Select Get or Install. Microsoft Store may ask you to sign in with a Microsoft account before the installation can begin.
  6. Wait for the installation to finish. Do not uninstall the old light-gray app yet.
  7. Launch the newly installed app, using the new blue-icon shortcut or the Store’s Open button.
  8. Sign in with the same Roblox account that you used in the old installation. The Microsoft account used by the Store is not a substitute for your Roblox login.
  9. Complete the one-time Microsoft/Xbox account linking prompt if it appears.
  10. Join an experience and verify your account information and data.
  11. After the verification succeeds, uninstall the old light-gray Roblox app.

Microsoft’s general Store process is documented in its guide to getting apps on a Windows PC. Roblox’s own migration notice covers the app identity, account login, Xbox linking, account data, and removal of the old client.

What happens when you first open the new app?

The first launch normally has three separate identity steps that are easy to confuse:

  • Roblox account: This is the account that holds your Roblox username, progress, friends, Robux, avatar, and inventory.
  • Microsoft account: This is used for Microsoft Store access and Microsoft-related purchases.
  • Xbox profile: An Xbox profile is associated with the Microsoft account and provides the Xbox-platform integration used by the new client.

The Xbox link does not replace your Roblox account and does not transfer ownership of it. It is a system integration step. Roblox says Microsoft Store games use the Microsoft account associated with the Windows device, and that account includes an Xbox profile. The link also supports easier interaction with Xbox friends.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you are unsure which account is active, stop before deleting the old installation. Check the username displayed in the new Roblox app. A new account can look completely empty even though your original account is unaffected.

Will your Roblox progress, Robux, friends, and inventory transfer?

Yes, when you sign in to the same Roblox account. Roblox says that progress, friends, Robux, and inventory items are associated with the Roblox account rather than with the old app installation. You will normally need to log in again in the new client, but installing it should not erase account-linked data.

Before removing the old app, check all of the following:

  • Your Roblox username is the expected one.
  • Your avatar and equipped items look correct.
  • Your friends list is present.
  • Your Robux balance is correct.
  • Your inventory includes the items you expect.
  • An experience that you play regularly shows the expected progress after you join it.

Do not create a new Roblox account simply because the first screen looks empty. Sign out, verify the username, and sign in to the original account. If you cannot access that account, use Roblox’s account-recovery process before removing the old client.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Account data listed above should be available because it is tied to the Roblox account. Local preferences, cached files, keybinds, graphics settings, and unofficial client modifications should not be treated as guaranteed to transfer between installations.

When should you uninstall the old Roblox app?

Uninstall it only after the new app launches, accepts the correct Roblox login, and passes your verification checklist. Roblox recommends removing the old app because it will eventually stop working, may cause confusion when both shortcuts are present, and uses storage.

On Windows, the clearest removal methods are:

From the Start menu

  1. Open Start and select All apps.
  2. Find the old light-gray Roblox entry.
  3. Right-click it and select Uninstall.

From Settings

  1. Open Start → Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Find the old Roblox entry, not Roblox – Windows.
  3. Select the app’s More menu and choose Uninstall.

Microsoft provides additional removal options in its guide to uninstalling apps and programs. If you are not certain which entry is old, leave both installed until you have identified the blue-icon replacement and tested it.

Troubleshooting the Microsoft Store installation

The Store shows only Roblox, not Roblox – Windows

Do not install a result solely because it says Roblox. Search for the exact name Roblox – Windows, verify the blue icon and Roblox Corporation publisher, and try the direct Store product page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the correct result still does not appear:

  1. Restart Windows, particularly if Windows recently installed an update.
  2. Confirm that Microsoft Store is signed in to the intended Microsoft account.
  3. Open the direct product page again.
  4. Reset the Microsoft Store cache by pressing Windows + R, entering wsreset.exe, and selecting OK.
  5. Wait while a blank Command Prompt window appears briefly and closes. Microsoft Store should reopen automatically.
  6. Search for Roblox – Windows again.

Microsoft lists several other possible causes: the app may not be available in your country or region, Microsoft Family settings may hide it, the PC may be incompatible, the wrong Microsoft account may be in use, or the listing may not have propagated correctly. Check Windows updates and family or device-administrator restrictions as well. Microsoft’s Microsoft Store installation troubleshooting page covers these causes and the cache-reset procedure.

If the listing remains unavailable, contact Roblox or Microsoft Support. Avoid downloading an unverified package from a third-party site; an unofficial installer is not a safe substitute for the official Store listing.

The Install or Get button is missing or disabled

First restart the PC and sign in to Microsoft Store. Then check the following:

  • Whether the app is available in your region.
  • Whether Microsoft Family settings or another family restriction blocks the app.
  • Whether the PC meets Roblox’s requirements.
  • Whether your Microsoft Store account is the intended one.
  • Whether a Windows update is waiting for a restart.

Run wsreset.exe as described above, then reopen the Store. If the button is still unavailable, the cause is more likely to be account, region, policy, or compatibility related than a Roblox account-data problem.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If Roblox – Windows installs but will not launch

Use Windows’ built-in app recovery tools before repeatedly reinstalling:

  1. Open Start → Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Find Roblox – Windows.
  3. Select the app’s More menu and choose Advanced options.
  4. Select Repair.
  5. Try launching Roblox again.
  6. If Repair does not help, return to the same page and select Reset.
  7. Launch the app and sign in again if Windows cleared its app data.

Microsoft documents this Repair and Reset path. These are general Windows recovery tools, not Roblox-specific fixes guaranteed to resolve every launch problem. Reset can clear local app data and require another login, so confirm that you know the correct Roblox account credentials first.

Also restart Windows, confirm that Microsoft Store is updated, check your network connection, and verify that your PC meets Roblox’s published requirements. If the app repeatedly crashes or reports an authentication or account error, contact Roblox Support with the exact message and the steps that produced it.

Roblox – Windows system requirements

Roblox’s general computer requirements page lists the player client for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. It specifies or recommends:

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • A processor of 1.6 GHz or better is recommended.
  • At least 1 GB of RAM.
  • At least 300 MB of available storage for installation.
  • DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support.
  • A household internet connection of roughly 4–8 Mbps for one user.

These are Roblox’s general PC requirements, not a separate technical specification sheet exclusively for the Roblox – Windows Store package. Hardware that meets the minimum may still deliver different results in demanding experiences.

There is also an important Windows 10 distinction: Roblox continues to list 64-bit Windows 10 as compatible, but Microsoft ended normal Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. That means regular free updates, technical assistance, and security fixes from Microsoft are no longer provided in the normal support lifecycle. For a supported and maintained operating system, Windows 11 is the safer long-term choice when the PC is eligible. Check Roblox’s current hardware and operating-system requirements before troubleshooting an older computer.

Is this the same as Roblox from the website?

Not exactly. Roblox documents more than one Windows installation route:

  • Microsoft Store version: Roblox – Windows, the replacement client covered by this migration notice.
  • Website-launched player: Roblox’s separate browser route, which starts at Roblox.com when you click an experience’s green Play button and then installs or launches Roblox Player.
  • Roblox Studio: The creator application, separate from both player routes.

You can consult Roblox’s website installation instructions or its download page if the Store is blocked by an administrator or unavailable in your region. However, Roblox documents the website player as a separate path; do not assume that installing it automatically satisfies the Microsoft Store migration requirement or provides identical behavior.

Important caveats for parents and families

The Store listing labels Roblox – Windows Teen, indicates that users interact, and indicates in-game purchases including random items. Parents should review Roblox’s parental controls as well as Microsoft/Xbox family settings before allowing installation or purchases.

A Microsoft Family Safety discussion reported a problem in September 2025 in which time spent in the new Roblox Store app was not tracked correctly. That report is a historical compatibility warning, not proof that the problem still exists as of August 2026. After migrating a child’s account, test the actual time limits, activity reporting, and purchase restrictions on that PC rather than assuming they work exactly as they did with the old client.

If Family Safety does not record Roblox usage or enforce a limit, document the Windows version, app version, account configuration, and behavior, then seek current Microsoft support. The historical report is available in this Microsoft Q&A thread.

Robux, purchases, subscriptions, and refunds

Xbox and Roblox say that Robux purchased with a Microsoft account in the updated app can carry across devices, including Xbox consoles. That does not mean every purchase rule is identical on every platform.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In particular, Roblox’s current documentation says that local-currency subscriptions within experiences are not available for purchase on the Windows app or Xbox. Subscriptions priced in Robux remain available across platforms under Roblox’s stated rules. Check the current subscription documentation before switching payment methods or assuming that an in-experience purchase option will appear.

For an unauthorized or accidental transaction made through Microsoft Store or Xbox, Microsoft/Xbox is generally the payment provider that handles the refund request. Roblox directs users to the relevant platform for those charges. See Roblox’s unauthorized charges and refund guidance, and keep the Microsoft purchase receipt or order information available.

Multiple accounts and Roblox Studio creators

Ordinary players should migrate normally, but creators, testers, and people who used the old Store app as a second Roblox client need to test first.

A developer-forum discussion records a report that the new version did not preserve the old Microsoft Store client’s ability to function as a second simultaneous Roblox client. Roblox’s official migration notice does not promise multi-instance or multi-account support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Do not assume that the new app can run alongside the website-launched client in the same way as the old UWP app.
  • If you test experiences with a second account, verify that workflow before uninstalling the legacy client.
  • Do not rely on unofficial launchers, account managers, modified clients, or workarounds without checking their security and Roblox Terms of Use implications.
  • For normal one-account play, this limitation is an edge case rather than a reason to avoid the official replacement.

Should you install it now?

Use Roblox – Windows if you want the officially designated replacement for the legacy Store app, need to continue playing after the old client stops working, or want the new Microsoft/Xbox account and social integration. It is also the relevant Store distribution for supported Windows PCs and handheld devices.

Consider the website-launched player as a separate alternative if the Microsoft Store is unavailable or blocked by a device administrator, or if you need to compare client behavior for a particular experience. It is not documented as a universal substitute for this Store migration.

The practical trade-off is straightforward: the new app is the supported direction for Microsoft Store play, but it involves Microsoft/Xbox account integration, platform-specific purchase rules, family-setting checks, and possible differences for multi-account workflows. Roblox’s stability claims are encouraging, but there is no official benchmark proving a universal performance improvement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I see two Roblox apps in the Microsoft Store?

The light-gray Roblox listing is the legacy Store/UWP client, while the blue-icon Roblox – Windows listing is the replacement. Install the latter, test it with your existing Roblox account, and then remove the old app.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do I need an Xbox account to play Roblox on Windows?

The new Microsoft Store client uses the Xbox profile associated with the Microsoft account used by Microsoft Store. You must complete the one-time Roblox-to-Microsoft/Xbox linking step, but that link does not replace your Roblox account.

Will I lose my Robux or progress after installing Roblox – Windows?

Roblox says progress, friends, Robux, and inventory are tied to your Roblox account. Sign in with the same Roblox account and verify the username and balance before uninstalling the old client. Do not create a new account if the first screen looks empty.

Can I still play Roblox from Roblox.com?

Roblox continues to document a separate website-launched Roblox Player installation. It may be useful when the Store is unavailable, but Roblox does not state that the website route is identical to or automatically satisfies the Microsoft Store migration.

Can I run two Roblox accounts at the same time?

Do not assume so. Roblox’s official migration guidance does not document multi-instance support, and a developer-forum report described changes affecting the old Store client’s second-client workflow. Test any creator or multi-account setup before uninstalling the legacy app, and avoid unverified workarounds.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Who handles a refund for a Robux purchase made through Microsoft Store or Xbox?

Microsoft/Xbox generally handles refunds for charges made through its Store or Xbox payment system. Roblox’s unauthorized-charge guidance explains the platform distinction; keep your Microsoft order details when requesting help.

The Bottom Line

Install the blue-icon Roblox – Windows listing, product ID 9PMF91N3LZ3M. Use the same Roblox login as before, complete the Microsoft/Xbox link, confirm your account data and Robux, test an experience, and only then uninstall the light-gray legacy Roblox app. If the Store cannot find it, restart Windows, open the direct listing, and run wsreset.exe before seeking Microsoft or Roblox Support.
