To play with friends in Minecraft Dungeons II, start an online session and either invite someone from the in-game Friends list or share your party’s eight-character code. Your friend can enter that code in the join-by-party-code dialog, including across platforms. Parties can have up to four players, and the game also supports local couch co-op, mixed local-and-online parties, and matchmaking.
How do I invite friends to a party?
Start an online game, then invite a friend from the in-game Friends list if that option is available on your platform. For an invite flow reported in an independent walkthrough, open the in-game menu, choose Friends, select a friend who is online, and choose Invite to Game. Exact menu labels and button inputs can vary by platform; Mojang’s official co-op article documents the multiplayer features but does not give a complete controller-by-controller walkthrough.

- Open the in-game party or multiplayer screen. If your platform provides a Friends list, open it from the in-game menu.
- Select the online friend you want to invite and choose Invite to Game, if that option is available.
- Ask the recipient to accept or join through the game’s available invitation flow.
A friend may also be able to select Join Game from their side when the session’s privacy settings allow it. If they cannot see or enter the session, use the party-code method instead of assuming the invitation failed for a particular reason: the available privacy controls and menu labels can differ by platform.
How do I join a friend’s party with a code?
Ask the host for the code displayed for their current party, then enter it in the join-by-party-code dialog. Mojang says the code is eight characters, made up of letters and numbers, and lets friends join across platforms either through the lobby or while a game is already underway.

- Drop the pickaxe, grab a sword, and charge into a thrilling new adventure in the Minecraft Dungeons II Deluxe Edition
- Have the host start or open the party they want you to join.
- Ask them to display and send you that party’s code.
- Open the join-by-party-code option in your game.
- Enter the eight-character code exactly as the host shared it and confirm.
The code belongs to the host’s current party, so make sure you have the code for the party you intend to enter. If the join attempt does not work, check the characters with the host and ask them to confirm that the code they shared is still for their current party. Mojang describes code joining as available from the lobby or an ongoing game; the code is not limited to players joining before a mission begins.
Which way of joining should I use?
Choose the method that fits your group: use a Friends-list invitation when that option is convenient, a party code when you need a cross-platform route, or matchmaking when you want the game to fill open places.

Can couch co-op and online friends play together?
Yes. Minecraft Dungeons II supports mixed co-op: players sharing one device can play locally while remote friends join the same online party. The party limit is four players total, so count both the local couch players and remote players toward that limit.

For example, two people playing together on one device can have two remote friends join, making a four-player party. A group that already has four players cannot add another friend without making room in the party. Mojang describes online and offline play as well as couch co-op and mixed couch-and-online play; the exact local-player setup can depend on the platform’s controls and interface.
How many players can join?
A party can contain up to four players. That cap applies to the group as a whole, whether its members are all online, all playing locally, or using a mixture of couch and online co-op. If fewer than four friends are available, matchmaking can fill open places.
Can I play with a friend on another platform?
Yes. Mojang says a party code can be used regardless of which platform the players are using, making it the clearest documented option for cross-platform joining. The studio describes the game’s goal as “one-click crossplay,” but the exact platform menus and any account or platform requirements should be checked in the game because they can change by platform or with updates.

Keep cross-platform play separate from cross-platform progression. Mojang says that linking platform accounts to the same Microsoft account lets a player continue with the same hero on another platform. The article also says hero data is stored online, so progression is not tied to a single device. Those details concern carrying a hero between platforms; they are not a reason to assume that every friend must link accounts in order to join a party.
What should I check if an invite or code does not work?
Start with the basics the game’s documented multiplayer setup depends on: the host needs an online session, the party must have room, and a code must match the host’s current party. If you are using a direct invite or Join Game, privacy settings may affect whether the recipient can enter.
- Confirm the host is online. A local-only session is not the same as an online party for remote friends.
- Check the party size. The maximum is four players, including local couch players.
- Recheck the code. Party codes contain eight letters and numbers; compare the entry with what the host currently displays.
- Try the code route if a friend cannot see the session. Friends-list visibility and the ability to use Join Game can depend on session privacy settings.
- Allow for platform differences. The documented invite flow is not a universal button sequence, so menu names may not match exactly on every system.
- For progress on another platform, check account linking separately. Mojang identifies using the same Microsoft account across linked platform accounts as the way to continue with the same hero.
Mojang also says Minecraft Dungeons II uses dedicated servers and selects a server based on each player’s ping. That explains the stated server-selection approach, but it does not establish a specific fix for a failed connection or a guarantee about latency. If the interface or connection behaves differently after an update, consult the current in-game options and official support information for your platform.

What does the official co-op guidance establish?
Mojang’s co-op article, published September 29, 2026, describes the party-code format and use, the four-player limit, matchmaking, crossplay, couch co-op, and mixed local-and-online parties. It does not provide a complete menu walkthrough for every platform, so the Friends → Invite to Game path should be treated as a reported example rather than a universal sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Minecraft Dungeons II party codes expire?
Mojang describes each code as unique to the current party but does not state how long it remains valid. If an older code fails, ask the host to display and share the code for the party they have open.

Do I need to link a Microsoft account just to join a friend?
The official co-op guidance ties using the same Microsoft account to continuing with the same hero across platforms. It does not say that account linking is a prerequisite for joining a party, so do not treat the progression detail as a party-joining requirement.
Can matchmaking add players after a session has started?
Mojang says matchmaking can add players to an existing session or fill open slots. The co-op guidance does not spell out additional matchmaking filters or how players are selected.
