A guide such as JustWatch can show what is new or upcoming by provider, while its TV Show Tracking feature records which episodes or seasons you have watched. Turn on push notifications in your phone settings, verify the country and provider, and recheck the listing as release day approaches because dates and availability can change.
Why one service’s “My List” is not enough
A show can be split across several services, move between providers, or have a new season announced long before it is available. Checking each app separately forces you to remember where every title lives and whether you have already watched the previous season. A cross-service guide gives you one place to save shows and inspect provider availability. A service-level reminder then supplies a second check for a specific title when that platform publishes a future date.

This approach separates two jobs that are easy to confuse:
- Tracking: remembering the show, its provider and your viewing progress.
- Alerting: being told when an episode, season or title is expected to become available.
No listing should be treated as a permanent promise. Netflix says future dates can change because of production delays or licensing contracts, and availability depends on the country whose catalog you are viewing.

Build a cross-service watchlist
Choose a guide that matches your country
Start with a guide that covers both your market and the providers you actually use. The US pages for new and recently added movies and TV shows and upcoming movies and TV shows let you filter listings by streaming provider. The general JustWatch guide describes a single watchlist spanning multiple streaming services.
Those links are US editions. A US result is not a worldwide release calendar: a show may launch on a different date, use a different provider or be unavailable in another country. Set the guide to your own country before saving dates, and treat a provider shown there as a lead to verify rather than as a global guarantee.
Save shows before you need an alert
Add a series as soon as you decide to follow it, not only when a premiere is imminent. A saved list is useful even when no date has been announced because it gives you one queue to review when news arrives. Keep the title in the cross-service guide regardless of which provider currently carries it; the provider filter can then show where it is listed.

Do not create separate handwritten lists for each app unless you have a specific reason, such as tracking a household member’s account separately. One list reduces the chance that a show disappears from your routine simply because it changed services.
Record episode and season progress
Mark what you have watched
A reminder is much more useful when it distinguishes an ongoing show from one you have not started. JustWatch’s TV Show Tracking support page explains that users can mark episodes or seasons as watched and that tracked shows appear in TV Show Tracking. Apply that status immediately after watching, while the episode number is still clear.

- Open the show in the guide and add it to your watchlist.
- Mark each watched episode, or mark a completed season when the interface offers that shortcut.
- Leave the next unwatched episode or season as the visible point to resume.
- Return to the tracked-shows view when you want to see which series are ongoing, completed or waiting for more episodes.
Episode-level marking is preferable for weekly releases because it prevents you from treating an entire season as finished after watching only the episodes currently available. Season-level marking is faster when you have already completed a whole season and want to clean up the list.
Keep progress separate from availability
A show can be marked watched even if the provider changes, and a show can be available even if you have not started it. Maintain both pieces of information: your viewing state and the current provider listing. This prevents a common mistake in which a new-season notice is ignored because the show was previously marked “complete,” even though that status referred only to the last released season.
Turn on push notifications correctly
Enable the app permission
JustWatch says app users can receive push notifications when new episodes or seasons come out, but the phone must allow notifications. After installing or updating the app:
- Open the phone’s system Settings.
- Open Notifications (the exact label can vary by phone).
- Select the tracking app and allow notifications.
- Keep alert styles enabled if you want a banner, sound or lock-screen notice.
- Return to the app and confirm that notifications for tracked shows are enabled if it provides a separate in-app switch.
Allowing notifications at the operating-system level is necessary but may not be sufficient if the app has its own preference. If you use a battery-saving mode that restricts background activity, check whether it is preventing timely delivery; the essential test is whether the app and the phone both permit alerts.
Use alerts as a prompt, not as your only record
Push notifications are convenient for a new episode or season, but they should not be your sole archive of dates. Keep the show saved and retain the provider information so you can find it if an alert is dismissed, delayed or never arrives. A tracked list also helps when a season is released all at once and you want to see what remains unwatched.

Add the streaming service’s own reminder
Netflix’s “Remind Me” workflow
Netflix documents a title-level reminder for some upcoming TV shows and movies. When a future release date is displayed, choose Remind Me. Netflix says that, once the title becomes available, it may send a notification or email and place the title in My List.

- Open the upcoming title’s details page in Netflix.
- Check that a future date is shown.
- Select Remind Me.
- Keep Netflix notifications and email contact enabled if you want both delivery methods available.
- When the notice arrives, verify that the title is available in your country and open the episode or season from the service.
This reminder complements, rather than replaces, a cross-service tracker. It is tied to a title on Netflix, while the guide remains useful if the show is also listed on another provider or later moves.
What a service reminder can and cannot tell you
A service reminder is strongest when that service has published a specific future date. It does not establish that every country will receive the title at the same time, and it does not eliminate the possibility of a schedule change. Netflix explicitly notes that production delays or licensing contracts can alter dates. Keep the date qualified as “currently listed” or “scheduled,” not guaranteed.
Verify the provider, country and release status
Check the country setting first
Streaming catalogs are regional. Before you rely on a date, confirm that the guide is set to the country where you intend to watch. The JustWatch pages cited above are US pages, so their provider and upcoming-title results should not be transferred automatically to the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia or any other market.
Confirm where the title will play
Use the provider filter to narrow the guide to services you subscribe to. If a title appears on a provider you do not use, save it anyway if you want to monitor it, but do not assume you can watch it on another service with a similar catalog. Open the provider listing near release day and check that the show, season and episode are present.

Recheck close to launch
Make a final check as the listed date approaches. A date can be revised, and a provider can change because licensing has been finalized differently from the original announcement. Rechecking also catches a country-selection error made when the show was first saved.
A practical release-date routine
When you hear about a new show or season
- Search for the title in your country’s cross-service guide.
- Save it to the single watchlist.
- Record the last episode or season you completed.
- Filter by your providers to see where the current listing sits.
- If the service has published a future date, add its native reminder as well.
During a weekly release
- Open the notification or the tracked-show list.
- Verify that the newly released episode belongs to the expected season.
- Watch it on the listed provider.
- Mark the episode watched immediately.
- Leave the next episode visible so the tracker represents your real stopping point.
When an entire season drops
- Check the provider page for the season number and episode count shown there.
- Mark only the episodes you have actually watched, unless you completed the entire season.
- Use the tracked list to distinguish a new season waiting to be watched from a season you finished.
- Keep the title saved so future-season notices reach the same place.
Once a week, review the queue
A short review prevents the watchlist from becoming stale. Sort through tracked shows, remove titles you no longer intend to follow, and inspect the provider filter for shows approaching release. This is especially useful when you follow several series with different release patterns and services.

The sources above establish these functions for JustWatch and Netflix, but they do not support a complete feature-by-feature ranking of every tracking app. If you choose another guide, inspect its current country selector, provider filters, episode or season tracking, and notification controls before moving your entire routine to it.

No notification arrived
- Check the phone’s system notification permission for the app.
- Check any in-app notification setting for tracked shows.
- Confirm that the show is saved and has the correct season or episode status.
- Open the guide manually and inspect the provider listing; an alert is not proof that the episode is available in your market.
- For a Netflix title, verify that Remind Me was selected and that Netflix notifications or email delivery are allowed.
The date is wrong for your location
Check the country selector before changing the show’s status. If the guide is showing US results, switch to your market and search again. Do not use a US date as a substitute for a local provider’s listing.
The date changed after you saved it
Keep the title in the watchlist, replace the old date in any personal calendar, and treat the newest provider or service listing as the current schedule. Netflix identifies production delays and licensing contracts as reasons a future date may move.

The show moved to another provider
Do not delete the title simply because its old service no longer lists it. Recheck the cross-service guide with the provider filter cleared, then save the current listing and use the new service’s reminder feature if one is offered. Your watched-episode history remains useful even when the playback provider changes.
Progress no longer matches what you watched
Open the show’s tracked record and correct the specific episode or season rather than marking the whole series complete. Episode-level corrections preserve an accurate next step for weekly releases and partial seasons.
Use a calendar only as a second layer
A personal calendar can be helpful for a small number of high-priority premieres, but enter the date as provisional and include the provider and country in the event title. The cross-service watchlist should remain the source of your ongoing progress because a calendar entry does not automatically know whether you watched an episode or whether the provider changed.

For example, an event named “Show — season 2 — currently scheduled — provider — country” is more useful than an unexplained date. Recheck it near launch and update or remove it if the provider listing changes. This keeps a calendar from turning an old announcement into a false certainty.

- Use one cross-service guide set to your country.
- Save every show you follow in its watchlist.
- Mark watched episodes or seasons so the list reflects progress.
- Enable the app’s phone notifications.
- Add the service-level reminder when a title offers one, such as Netflix’s Remind Me.
- Check provider and country details before release.
- Recheck the date close to launch and adjust for any schedule change.
This combination minimizes manual checking without pretending that streaming schedules are fixed. The guide handles multiple services and viewing history; the native reminder covers a specific announced title; your final provider check handles regional availability and last-minute changes.
