On PC, open Fallout 4’s in-game console with the tilde (~) key, enter player.setlevel N with your target level in place of N, and press Enter. Save first: Bethesda warns that console commands are unsupported and can cause game problems.
Set your character’s level on PC
- Save your game. Make a save you can return to before using the console.
- Open the console. While playing on PC, press the tilde (
~) key. - Enter the command. Type
player.setlevel N, replacingNwith the level you want. For example, player.setlevel 20requests level 20; this is a syntax example, not a guarantee about resulting rewards. - Apply and close it. Press Enter, then close the console.
- Check your character. Look at the displayed level and level-up interface. The documented command reference identifies
player.setlevelas setting the character’s level. PC Gamer’s Fallout 4 console-command guide documents the command; Game8’s guide describes the PC input procedure.
What the command does—and what is not established
player.setlevel sets a character’s level; it is not the same operation as directly granting a perk. The command guide lists player.addperk separately for adding a perk by ID. The sources documenting player.setlevel do not establish whether setting a level automatically creates, claims, or displays the expected perk choices or other level-up rewards. Check the interface rather than assuming those rewards were granted as they would be through normal play.

Bethesda says characters start at level one with no skill or attribute points and that level-up rewards must be claimed. Its support example says a level 10 character has nine attribute points, but it does not explain how player.setlevel interacts with those rewards. Bethesda’s support article about missing skill or attribute points covers reward claiming, not the command’s specific behavior.
Platform and safety limits
The tilde-key procedure described here is for PC. The cited guides do not establish that this keyboard-console method works on PlayStation or Xbox.

Bethesda describes Fallout 4’s in-game console as a debugging tool that is unsupported. It warns that console commands may cause issues including broken quests, loss of fast travel, and broken AI. Bethesda recommends loading an earlier save made before the command if a problem occurs. Read its console-command troubleshooting guidance and use commands at your own risk.
