Use the daily Duty Roulettes available to your character, then run suitable duties you have unlocked. There is no verified, universal fastest route or reliable time estimate: queue times, content access, and play style all affect how quickly you level.
Unlock Viper and Pictomancer at level 80
Both jobs require you to have a Disciple of War or Magic at level 80. Neither has a base class; each begins at level 80 once unlocked. Square Enix’s Patch 7.0 notes list the quests and starting details.

After meeting the level requirement, speak to the relevant quest giver and complete the quest to unlock the job. Dawntrail is the expansion that introduces Viper and Pictomancer; owning it is relevant if you do not already have access to the expansion. What to do after unlocking
Start with available Duty Roulettes
Run the daily Duty Roulettes available to your character for their experience rewards. The official Duty manual describes Duty Roulette: Leveling and High-level Dungeons. High-level Dungeons can select an unlocked dungeon at level 50, 60, 70, 80, or 90; the roulette’s selection depends on the duties available to your character.

Continue with suitable duties
After using the daily roulettes, queue for duties appropriate to your job’s current level and your unlocked content. A Viper leveling guide discusses options for the 80–90 range. Actual efficiency depends on such factors as queue times and what content you have access to, so choose a duty you can enter reliably rather than assuming one route will always be fastest.
Choose a route that fits your situation
- Consider queue time. A duty with a short wait may be more practical than one that appears preferable but leaves you waiting longer.
- Use content you have already unlocked. A route that requires additional progress is only useful if that content is available to your character.
- Account for party access. Your ability to join a group and your comfort with the duty affect how smoothly you can keep earning experience.
- Learn the job as you level. Viper is melee DPS; Pictomancer is magical ranged DPS. Pick duties and a pace that give you room to become comfortable with the role.
The available official and guide sources document roulette and duty options but do not provide directly comparable experience-per-hour results or a guaranteed total time to reach 90. Treat any timing as dependent on your own queues, unlocked duties, and play.

Level 90 meets the goal in this guide, but it is not Dawntrail’s combat-job cap. The Patch 7.0 notes announced an increase from level 90 to 100, so reaching 90 does not mean the job is capped.
