Enter a seed in Bedrock Edition
- From Minecraft, choose Create New, then Create New World.
- Open Game in the new-world settings.
- Select the box beside Seed, enter the seed, then create the world.
The Seed Picker beside the field offers suggested seeds. Mojang describes it as a Bedrock-exclusive feature that provides seeds intended to spawn you in or near the biome or feature described. Menu labels and placement may vary by platform or release.

- Start creating a new world.
- Open the World tab and set the seed before creating the world.
Mojang identified the World tab as the location for world type and seed settings in its Java snapshot 23w05a interface announcement, published February 3, 2023. That is a snapshot-era reference, so the exact placement or wording may differ in other Java releases.
Why the seed has to be set before world creation
Minecraft generates terrain procedurally rather than loading a fixed map. Microsoft’s world-generation overview explains that the seed is used in the base-terrain pass, with later passes determining biomes, structures, and features. Enter the seed during setup so it can guide generation.

Can you use the same seed in Java and Bedrock?
Mojang’s Bedrock 1.18.30 release notes, published April 19, 2022, state that Bedrock accepted 64-bit seeds from −9223372036854775808 to 9223372036854775807 and that those seeds could be used between Bedrock and Java to produce the same world. The notes also say non-numeric seed inputs in the UI produce the same seeds as Java. Treat this as guidance for that release, not a guarantee that every version will generate identical terrain, structures, or spawn behavior. Can you put a seed into a world you already made?
The documented seed fields are part of new-world setup. Enter the seed when creating a new world to generate terrain from it; changing or entering a seed in an existing save does not regenerate terrain that has already been created.
