To make a custom music level in MR. RECORDS, open Level Editor from the main menu, create a level, import a track or use the game’s music, then set the music timing and build the gameplay. Test your level, adjust the timing and obstacles, and export the record as a ZIP from its Share option.
The editor supports generating gameplay, placing obstacles, and remixing experiences. The game’s official FAQ recommends its Discord community for finding and sharing custom levels.

What do you need before you start?
The Level Editor is part of MR. RECORDS; you do not need a separate level-editing application to follow the documented workflow. The Steam listing gives these PC requirements and recommendations:

How do you open the Level Editor and create a record?
Start from the game’s main menu. Level Editor is next to the main story’s Play option.
- Select Level Editor from the main menu.
- In the record editor, select the first icon.
- Choose Create a new level to start from scratch. If you already have a level file from another player, the same area also offers an option to import a shared file.
Starting from scratch is the clearest route when you want to build a level around a track you choose. Importing another player’s file is a separate way to begin from an existing record; it is not necessary for creating your own.

How do you add music and set its timing?
Open the music menu and choose between Import Music and Use Game Music. For an imported track, the editor provides controls for tempo, first-beat offset, scroll speed, and music volume.

- Choose Import Music and select an audio file, or choose Use Game Music if you want to work with the game’s music.
- Set the track’s tempo. This setting helps establish the beat the level’s actions should follow.
- Adjust the first beat offset so the track’s first beat and the level’s timing line up.
- Set scroll speed and music volume for the experience you want to play and test.
There is no single official tempo, offset, or scroll-speed value that suits every song. Treat the settings as part of the level’s calibration: play the section, listen for whether the actions line up with the beat, and make adjustments based on what you hear and experience rather than applying a universal preset.
How do you build and test the playable section?
The editor supports gameplay generation, obstacle placement, and remixing. The official materials describe those capabilities but do not give a complete inventory of obstacle types or every generation control, so the controls available in your installed build are the guide for the specific layout you can make.
Generate a starting point
Use the gameplay-generation option to create a playable starting section, if that suits your plan. Generation can save you from arranging the entire experience manually, but you should still play the result and decide whether it fits the music. The available documentation does not specify a particular generation mode or promise that a generated section will match every track automatically.

Place and adjust obstacles
Use obstacle placement to shape the section around the track. If an action feels early, late, or awkward in a test run, consider both the music settings and the obstacle’s placement before changing anything. That gives you a practical way to separate a timing mismatch from a layout mismatch.
Repeat the test-and-adjust loop
- Play the section from the editor.
- Listen for whether the playable actions align with the beat.
- If the overall timing feels off, revisit tempo and first-beat offset; if the experience moves too quickly or slowly for you, review scroll speed.
- If an individual moment feels wrong, adjust the obstacle placement where the current build allows it.
- Play the revised section again before exporting.
This loop is a practical authoring method, not a set of official numerical targets. The right adjustments depend on the track and the playable section you create.
How do you export a custom level?
When you are ready to share a record, select it in the editor, scroll down to Share, and export a ZIP file.

- Select the record you want to share.
- Scroll to Share.
- Choose the ZIP export option and save the resulting file.
- Send that ZIP to the other player through a channel you choose.
Keep the exported ZIP available if you plan to distribute the level. The documented sharing flow is an exported file exchanged with other players; the official FAQ also points the community to the MR. RECORDS Discord for discovering and sharing levels.

What should you check if something goes wrong?
- The file is not accepted: Use the editor’s import validation and any instructions shown in the current build. The published material does not specify a definitive list of supported audio extensions or a maximum audio-file size.
- The level does not feel aligned with the music: Test again and adjust tempo or first-beat offset, then check scroll speed and obstacle placement. The editor does not have one documented set of values for all tracks.
- You cannot find a control described in a guide: The documented capabilities include generating gameplay and placing obstacles, but not a complete control-by-control inventory. Check the options exposed in your installed build rather than assuming a particular obstacle type or generation setting exists.
- You are looking for an upload button: The documented route is to export a ZIP from Share and exchange it with other players. Do not assume there is a Steam Workshop upload flow based on the available official instructions.
Where can you find or share other custom levels?
The official MR. RECORDS FAQ recommends the game’s Discord community as a place to find and share custom levels. For your own work, export the record as a ZIP first; the documented workflow is file exchange rather than an in-editor community publishing step.

Does the exported ZIP include the imported music?
The published instructions say to export a record as a ZIP, but do not establish whether every imported track is embedded in that ZIP. Check the export and import behavior in your current build before relying on a ZIP as a self-contained package.
Can I upload a custom MR. RECORDS level to Steam Workshop?
The official instructions document ZIP export and sharing through the community, not a Steam Workshop upload process. They do not establish that a Workshop flow is available.
