Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
To make a Hexxit Updated server, install the pack’s matching Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge server files in a clean directory, run it with 64-bit Java 8, accept the EULA, and give every player the identical pack release, Forge loader, and shared configuration. CurseForge currently lists Hexxit Updated-Final Hotfix 3, uploaded September 1, 2025, as the newest release. The server pack is separate from the client download, and mixing releases is the most common cause of missing-mod and registry errors.
This guide covers a fresh installation, LAN and internet access, client synchronization, safe updates, and recovery when the server will not start or friends cannot join.

What is Hexxit Updated, and which Minecraft version does it use?
Hexxit Updated is an unofficial updated modpack based on the exploration-focused Hexxit concept. It targets Minecraft 1.12.2 with the Forge mod loader and is categorized around adventure and RPG play, exploration, and a relatively light modded footprint. The pack emphasizes dungeons, towers, ruins, dimensions, and discovering structures rather than building a heavily automated technical base.
CurseForge’s project listing showed 2,129,102 downloads when it was accessed in 2026; that number is a changing project-page snapshot, not a permanent popularity statistic. The same listing contains several releases, including 1.0.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2, and the later Final Hotfix 3 client and server-pack entries. Treat the filename as an identifier: all players and the server must use one exact release.

Which Hexxit Updated release should you install?
For a new world, start by recording the exact CurseForge filename, its Minecraft version, and its Forge loader before downloading anything. The latest listed file is Hexxit Updated-Final Hotfix 3 (September 1, 2025), but an existing community server may intentionally remain on an older release. The correct choice is the release you can install identically on the server and every client, not simply the newest name.
| Item to match | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Pack release | Exact filename, such as Final Hotfix 3 | Different releases can contain different mods, versions, or configuration files. |
| Minecraft | 1.12.2 | A Forge server for another Minecraft version cannot load this pack correctly. |
| Forge | The loader build included or specified by that release | Forge must be compatible with both the pack and the client profile. |
| Server package | The release’s separate server-pack download, when provided | A client archive may contain files that should never be placed on a dedicated server. |
Do not install Hotfix 3 on the server and hand friends an older 1.0.x client, or the reverse. Keep the original downloads and a text note containing the selected filename so you can identify the installation months later.
What do I need before installing the server?
- A 64-bit Java 8 runtime. Technic’s modded-server guidance states that Java 8 works for versions below 1.17. Since Hexxit Updated runs on 1.12.2, Java 8 is the conservative choice. Confirm that the command-line Java you invoke is the 64-bit installation rather than a different version found earlier in the system path.
- A dedicated, empty server folder. Do not use your client’s .minecraft directory or a folder containing another Forge server. A clean directory makes the generated libraries, world, logs, and scripts easy to back up.
- The matching Forge installer and pack files. Forge must be installed for Minecraft 1.12.2, and the mods and configuration must come from the same Hexxit Updated release.
- Permission to open a local port. LAN play only requires local network access. Internet play usually requires a firewall rule and router port forwarding.
- A backup location. Before the first serious session, decide where dated copies of the world and server configuration will live.
RAM and CPU needs vary with view distance, exploration, generated chunks, and the number of players. The commonly shown command java -Xmx4G forge.jar nogui is an example, not a universal requirement. Adjust the heap to what the host can spare and to the observed player load; do not allocate all system memory to Java.
How do I install a clean Hexxit Updated Forge server?
1. Create the server directory
Make a new folder dedicated to this world, for example Hexxit-Updated-Server. Keep it separate from old test installations. On Windows, avoid placing it inside a cloud-synchronized folder that may lock files while the server is writing. On Linux or macOS, choose a directory whose account can create and modify files.
2. Install Forge for Minecraft 1.12.2
Download the Forge installer that matches the selected pack release and Minecraft 1.12.2. Run the installer and choose Install server, then select the empty directory you created. The installer should place Forge libraries and a server launcher there. If it offers a different Minecraft version, stop and obtain the 1.12.2 installer instead.
Recommended Free Tools
Technic’s documented procedure begins with this empty-folder and Forge-server installation. The exact generated filename can differ by Forge build, so use the script or jar that the installer creates rather than assuming every installation is named forge.jar.
3. Add the server-pack contents
Extract the server-pack download for the exact Hexxit Updated release into the Forge server directory. At minimum, the shared mods and config directories need to come from that same release. Copy any required asset or data folders supplied with the server pack as well.

If the pack provides a ready-made server structure, preserve its directory layout. Do not merge files from several releases “just to make a missing file appear”; that creates a hybrid installation that no client can reliably match.
4. Remove client-only mods and configuration
A dedicated server cannot use every file that a graphical client uses. Remove client-only mods and their corresponding client-only configuration before launch. Typical client-only functions include rendering, menus, shaders, minimaps, and keyboard or cosmetic overlays, but use the pack’s server package as the authority rather than deleting files by guesswork.
Leaving a client-only jar in the server’s mods directory can produce a startup crash. Removing a shared gameplay mod, on the other hand, can make clients fail with a missing-mod or registry mismatch. If you are unsure whether a file is server-safe, compare the supplied server pack or Forge’s startup log instead of experimenting in the only copy of your world.
5. Start the server once
Run the generated Forge script from inside the server directory. If no script is supplied, an equivalent command is:
java -Xmx4G forge.jar nogui
Replace forge.jar with the actual Forge server jar or launcher name. The -Xmx4G value sets a maximum heap of four gigabytes; change it for the machine and workload. The nogui option keeps the process in a terminal, which is convenient for a remote or headless host.
The first run normally creates files and stops before the world can start because the Minecraft EULA has not yet been accepted. Read the generated log for a Java, Forge, or missing-file error before changing anything else.

to:
eula=true
Save the file, then run the same Forge script or command again from that directory. If the server repeats the EULA message, check that you edited the eula.txt beside the launcher, not a similarly named file in another installation, and confirm that the file was actually saved with the value set to true.
7. Wait for the world to finish loading
Keep the terminal open until the log reports that the server is ready for connections. Stop it cleanly with the console’s stop command before closing the window. A clean stop lets Minecraft save chunks and player data; killing the process during exploration increases the chance of a damaged or incomplete save.
How do I configure a Hexxit server for LAN or internet players?
LAN players on the same network
Start the server and find the host computer’s private address on the local network. Friends on that network connect to that address and the server port shown in server.properties. They must still have the exact matching Hexxit Updated client, Minecraft 1.12.2, and Forge loader.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAllow Java or the server process through the host operating system’s firewall when prompted. If the host has several network adapters, give players the address belonging to the same router or Wi-Fi network rather than a loopback address such as 127.0.0.1, which works only on the host itself.
Players outside the home network
Internet players generally need the server port forwarded from the router to the computer running Minecraft. Minecraft’s official guidance identifies 25565 as the default Java server port. If you changed server-port in server.properties, forward the changed value instead.
- Give the server computer a stable local address, either by a reserved DHCP lease or a static configuration.
- Confirm the value of
server-portinserver.properties; use 25565 only when it remains the default. - Create a router port-forward rule for that TCP port to the server computer’s local address. Some routers expose separate TCP and UDP choices; follow the router’s instructions for the Minecraft Java service.
- Permit the same port through the computer’s firewall.
- Give friends your public address and port, while keeping the local address for LAN players.
Do not test an internet address from inside the same home network and assume the result is authoritative; some routers do not support loopback connections. Have a friend outside the network test after the server is running, or use the router’s connection status and server log to distinguish an address problem from a mod mismatch.
How do I make sure every client matches the server?
Every player should install the same Hexxit Updated filename, Minecraft 1.12.2, and Forge loader as the server. A client that merely has “Hexxit Updated” in its name is not necessarily the same build. Compare the actual release filename and, when troubleshooting, compare the contents and timestamps of the mods and config folders.

Give players the pack’s client installation method rather than copying the entire server directory. The server needs shared gameplay files and server configuration; a client needs its own launcher profile and client-side files. Never distribute your world, operator credentials, or server logs as a substitute for the client pack.
What should I do before updating?
- Stop the running server with the console’s
stopcommand. - Copy the complete world folder to a dated backup location.
- Copy the
modsandconfigdirectories, launch scripts, server.properties, and the EULA file to the same backup set. - Install the candidate release in a separate server directory. Do not overwrite the working folder.
- Update clients at the same time and record the new pack filename, Minecraft version, and Forge loader.
- Start the candidate server, allow it to finish loading, and have at least one client join before migrating the live world.
Keep the previous server folder intact until the replacement has loaded the world and survived a clean stop. If the new release fails, restore the dated backup and return to the known-good directory rather than trying to repair a partially upgraded world in place.
Why do clients get missing-mod or registry errors?
These errors usually mean the client and server do not describe the same modded game. The most useful first check is a direct comparison of the selected pack filename, Minecraft version, Forge loader, and the server and client mods and config directories.

- Registry mismatch: A mod version, configuration, or load order differs. Replace mixed folders with clean copies from one release instead of adding individual jars from another version.
- Join disconnect after an update: The server was updated without updating clients. Shut it down, restore the previous folder if necessary, and distribute the same release to every player.
- Crash during startup: Check that Java is 64-bit Java 8, Minecraft is 1.12.2, and Forge matches the pack. The first error and its mod name in the log are more useful than the final generic “server stopped” line.
Do not solve a mismatch by deleting random mods until the client connects. That can let one test client join while silently changing world generation or gameplay for everyone else. Keep a clean copy of the original server pack and make changes only in a disposable test directory.

Forge or Java errors
Verify the Java executable used by the launch script, not only the Java version shown by a graphical launcher. For Hexxit Updated, use a 64-bit Java 8 runtime. Then verify that the Forge installer and every pack file target Minecraft 1.12.2. A server started with a newer Java or a different Forge build may fail before it reads the world.
The EULA message repeats
Open eula.txt in the active server directory and confirm it contains exactly eula=true. Check file permissions and make sure the launcher is not being run from a shortcut whose working directory points somewhere else.
The process starts but no one can join
Read server.properties for the listening port, confirm the local firewall rule, and check that the router forwards that port to the current local address. Friends must use the public address for internet play and the local address for LAN play. A changed port, a stale DHCP address, or a firewall prompt that was denied can each look like a mod problem from the player’s point of view.

The world becomes unstable after an update
Stop the server, preserve the current folder for diagnosis, and restore the dated world and configuration backup. Keep the old release available until the replacement has been proven with a client connection and a clean shutdown. Never test an unverified update on the only copy of a long-running world.
Should I host Hexxit Updated at home or use managed hosting?
Neither option is automatically best. Home hosting gives direct control over files, backups, and the exact Forge release, while managed hosting can reduce router and firewall work. The technical requirements remain the same: the host must run the correct Java and Forge versions, retain the matching server pack, and provide a reliable way to back up and restore the world.
| Decision point | Home computer | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| File and mod control | Direct access to every folder and launch script. | Depends on the panel’s file manager and mod support. |
| Networking | You handle the firewall, router forwarding, and changing home address. | The provider normally supplies a reachable address; panel and network limits vary. |
| Version pinning | Easy to retain the exact Forge and pack files yourself. | Confirm that the host permits custom 1.12.2 Forge and server-pack files. |
| Performance | Uses your hardware and competes with other home activity. | Depends on the allocated hardware and geographic location; no universal performance figure is established. |
| Backups | You choose the schedule and keep local copies. | Ask whether downloadable, restorable world backups are included and how long they are retained. |
| Cost | Uses existing equipment but consumes power and bandwidth. | Recurring pricing varies by provider and plan; compare the actual allocation and backup terms. |
Whichever route you choose, test restoring a backup before you need it. A host that advertises one-click mod installation is not necessarily supplying the same Hexxit Updated release, so verify the filename, Forge loader, and server-pack contents manually.
What is the safest first-session checklist?
- Write down the exact Hexxit Updated release, Minecraft 1.12.2, and Forge loader.
- Install 64-bit Java 8 and confirm the launch script uses it.
- Create a new server directory and install Forge with Install server.
- Extract the matching server pack and remove client-only files.
- Launch once, set
eula=true, and launch again. - Wait for the ready message, then stop cleanly and make a dated backup.
- Test one client with the identical pack before inviting the whole group.
- For remote players, verify the port in
server.properties, firewall rule, router forward, and address. - Keep the original server folder whenever you test an update.
Following that order separates installation errors from networking errors and protects the world while you make changes. Most failed Hexxit Updated connections are resolved by returning to the three-way match—pack release, Minecraft version, and Forge loader—before changing gameplay files.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run Hexxit Updated on a newer Java version instead of Java 8?
The documented compatibility guidance specifically guarantees Java 8 for versions below Minecraft 1.17. Newer Java releases may work in some environments, but they are outside the conservative setup described here; use 64-bit Java 8 first when diagnosing a 1.12.2 startup failure.
Do players need the server-pack download on their computers?
No. The server pack is for constructing the dedicated server. Players should install the matching client release through their launcher, with the same Minecraft and Forge versions, while retaining any client-side files that the launcher supplies.
Can I add a new mod to an existing Hexxit Updated world?
Only treat that as a controlled modpack change: make a full backup, test the modified server in a separate directory, and distribute the identical mod and configuration to every client. Adding or removing a gameplay mod can alter registries or world generation, so never experiment on the only live copy.
Why can I join locally but my friends still time out?
Local success proves that the server process and pack work on the host, not that the internet route is open. Recheck the external address, the port listed in server.properties, the host firewall, and the router rule pointing to the server computer’s current local address.
