Goo is a crafted resource in Enshrouded, not a creature drop or a deposit you can harvest. To make it, rescue Balthazar the Alchemist, unlock and place his Mortar, craft Bug Dust from Critter Parts, then discover the Goo recipe. Each Goo costs 1 Bug Dust, 2 Shroud Mushrooms, and 1 Springlands Dirt at the Alchemist’s Mortar.
How do you unlock Goo in Enshrouded?
The recipe appears only after you complete the Alchemist’s discovery sequence. Simply carrying Critter Parts is not enough: you must turn them into Bug Dust and pick up the finished Bug Dust once.

- Rescue Balthazar. Find and rescue him from the Ancient Vault, then settle the Alchemist at your base.
- Complete the Mortar quest. Follow Balthazar’s quest to Lone Thistle and obtain the Mortar.
- Place the Mortar correctly. Put it within the Alchemist’s working reach at your base, and keep the station in a sheltered area.
- Craft Bug Dust. Gather Critter Parts and use the Mortar to make one Bug Dust.
- Pick up the Bug Dust. After you collect it, open the Alchemist’s Resources menu. Goo should now be available.
If Goo is still missing, check these steps in order. The most commonly missed trigger is crafting Bug Dust but leaving it in the station instead of picking it up.

Bug Dust is usually the step that determines how quickly you can produce Goo because it requires a separate Critter Parts collection run. Shroud Mushrooms can also become a bottleneck if you are making a large batch. Springlands Dirt is generally easy to collect in bulk.

Collect Critter Parts for Bug Dust
Critter Parts are the input for Bug Dust, so gather them before starting a large Goo order. Kill small hostile or passive critters you encounter while exploring and loot the parts they drop, then return to the Mortar to process them. Because the Goo recipe consumes one Bug Dust per unit, your Bug Dust count is also your maximum immediate Goo count.

Harvest Shroud Mushrooms
Look for the large mushrooms in shrouded regions and chop them with your weapon or tool. Revelwood is specifically noted as a productive area. Plan on two mushrooms for every Goo, and collect extra if you are also preparing mushroom-based recipes.
Dig Springlands Dirt
Use a digging tool on normal Springlands ground. Dirt is not tied to a rare node, so it is the easiest ingredient to stockpile. A short digging session can cover the dirt needed for many Goo batches.

How do you craft Goo at the Mortar?
- Make sure Balthazar is assigned at your base and can reach the sheltered Mortar.
- Open the Alchemist crafting interface and choose the Resources category.
- Select Goo after the Bug Dust discovery trigger has been completed.
- Provide 1 Bug Dust, 2 Shroud Mushrooms, and 1 Springlands Dirt.
- Confirm the craft. One Goo is produced instantly.
If the Mortar is unavailable, move it closer to the Alchemist or rebuild it under a roof. A station that exists at the base but is outside the crafter’s reach will not function for this recipe.

Start with the downstream recipe rather than crafting blindly. Count the Goo required, multiply by two for Shroud Mushrooms, and reserve one Bug Dust and one Springlands Dirt per Goo. Then add a small surplus for experimentation or recipes you discover while progressing.
