To make yourself an administrator in Killing Floor 2, set a nonblank admin password, restart the server, join it, open the in-game console with the tilde key (~), and run AdminLogin <your-password>. The command grants administrator access to the player who enters it on that server. On a managed server, set the password in the provider’s Admin Password or Startup field; on a self-hosted server, set AdminPassword= in the active platform-specific configuration after the first boot has created the files.

The console method is the quickest route. You need control of the server’s admin password and a connection to the running server. Changing the password normally requires a restart, so do that before attempting to log in.

Managed-server procedure
- Stop the Killing Floor 2 server in the hosting control panel.
- Open the provider’s Admin Password, Startup, or equivalent server-settings field. Enter a unique, nonblank password and save it. BisectHosting’s published setup sequence uses this panel field rather than a hand-edited file.
- Start the server again and wait until it is fully online.
- Join through the in-game server browser or the server’s direct address.
- Press the tilde key (
~) to open the game console. Do not type the command into normal chat. - Enter
AdminLogin <your-password>, replacing the placeholder with the exact password you configured.
The login applies to the player currently connected with that game client. If you change the value in the hosting panel later, restart the server and use the new value. A provider panel can regenerate configuration files or overwrite local edits, so the panel’s password field is the authoritative place to make this change on a rented server.
Self-hosted procedure
- Start the dedicated server once. That first launch populates the server’s configuration files.
- Stop the server before editing anything.
- In the server’s
KFGame/Configdirectory, locate the active platform-specific files: files beginning withLinuxServer-on Linux orPCServer-on Windows. Do not use the untouched default templates as your primary configuration. - Set
AdminPassword=in the active KFGame configuration. Keep the value nonblank and save the file. - Start the server, connect to it, open the console with
~, and runAdminLogin <your-password>.
The dedicated-server download path uses Steam application ID 232130. The ID identifies the server software; it does not replace the password or the console login step.

AdminLogin authenticates the connected player against the server’s configured admin password. The complete form is:
AdminLogin <your-password>There is one space between the command and the password. Enter it in the game console after you have joined the intended server. The command is server-specific: being an administrator on one Killing Floor 2 server does not make you an administrator on another server, and knowing a server address is not enough without its password.
If the console reports a failed login, first check for a mistyped character, an old password left in a password manager, or a connection to a different server instance. Then verify that the server was restarted after the password was changed. On a rented server, confirm that the value in the provider’s Startup or Admin Password field is the value you are using; editing an INI file that the panel later regenerates will not reliably change the live password.

Where should I set AdminPassword?
The correct location depends on who operates the server. Use the following distinction before troubleshooting the command itself.

Keep the equals sign in the setting: AdminPassword=your-long-password. Do not add explanatory text to the value. If the line is missing in the active file, add it in the appropriate generated KFGame configuration section rather than changing a template that the server does not load.
How do I enable the WebAdmin browser panel?
WebAdmin is a separate HTTP service included with Killing Floor 2. It is useful when you want browser-based administration or multiple named administrator accounts, but it is not required for AdminLogin. The panel is started by the game server, so it cannot answer while the game server is stopped.
- Stop the dedicated server.
- Open
KFGame/Config/KFWeb.ini. - Find the
[IpDrv.WebServer]section and setbEnabled=true. - Save the file and restart the game server.
- Browse to the server address and configured WebAdmin port. A common address is
http://server-ip:8080; some builds use a/ServerAdminpath, so tryhttp://server-ip:8080/ServerAdminif the root page does not provide the panel. - Sign in with the
Adminaccount and the same configuredAdminPasswordused for administration.
The port is configurable, so treat 8080 as a commonly documented default rather than a guarantee. Read the running server’s configuration and hosting panel for the actual value. If the panel loads locally but not from another network, the service is probably running and the remaining issue is firewall or NAT exposure.
How can I create separate named administrators?
A single shared password is sufficient for occasional personal administration, but a group server can use separate WebAdmin accounts. Enable the multi-admin authentication class, restart the server, and then create users in the WebAdmin interface.

Enable the authentication class
You can select the multi-admin authentication option in WebAdmin’s advanced authentication settings. On a self-hosted installation, the equivalent configuration is in KFGame/Config/KFWebAdmin.ini:

AuthenticationClass=WebAdmin.MultiWebAdminAuthAfter saving, restart the server and open WebAdmin. Use its user-management controls to create and maintain individual accounts. Do not manually edit generated hashed-password data; malformed or mismatched hash entries can prevent authentication, while the panel applies the format expected by the server.
The WebAdmin service still has to be enabled in KFWeb.ini. The authentication class controls how users are checked; it does not by itself start the HTTP service or open a firewall port.
Which ports does a Killing Floor 2 server use?
These are the commonly documented ports for a dedicated server. Operators can change them, so use the values in the active configuration when creating firewall rules.

Opening a port in the operating-system firewall is not enough when the server is behind a router. Forward the selected port to the host running the game server, and make sure any cloud or provider firewall allows the same protocol. If you changed the WebAdmin listening port, substitute that value for 8080 in every firewall and NAT rule.

Why does AdminLogin fail?
Work through the checks in order. Most failures come from using the wrong password source, skipping the restart, or entering the command in the wrong place.
The console rejects the password
- Confirm that you joined the server whose password you changed; another instance on the same machine can have a different configuration.
- Re-enter the password exactly, including capitalization and punctuation.
- Verify that the value is nonblank. Older community notes mention blank defaults, but current setup guidance expects an explicitly configured password.
- Restart the server after changing the value. A running process may continue using the previous setting.
- On a managed host, check the provider’s Admin Password or Startup field rather than relying on a local INI edit.
- Make sure the command was entered in the game console opened with
~, not in chat or a server-management terminal.
The setting disappears after a restart
On rented infrastructure, the control panel may generate the active configuration at startup. Put the password in the provider’s designated field, save it, and then restart from that panel. For self-hosting, confirm that you edited the generated LinuxServer-* or PCServer-* file under KFGame/Config, not a default template.
WebAdmin will not load
- Check that the game server is running; WebAdmin is a web service launched by that process.
- Confirm
bEnabled=trueunder[IpDrv.WebServer]inKFWeb.ini. - Use the configured WebAdmin port, not automatically 8080 if the server was customized.
- Allow the port’s TCP traffic through the host firewall and any provider firewall.
- If connecting from the internet to a private host, verify router NAT or port-forwarding rules and the destination’s private IP address.

The panel opens locally but not remotely
This pattern usually indicates network exposure rather than an authentication problem. Test the exact address and port from a network outside the server’s LAN, then check NAT, firewall scope, and whether the server is listening on the interface reachable from that network. Restrict the rule to trusted source addresses whenever the firewall supports it.

Choose the workflow that matches the server’s ownership. If a provider supplies a dedicated Startup field, use it instead of fighting an automated configuration system. If you control the operating system, keep a backup of the active files before changing WebAdmin or authentication settings.

How should I secure Killing Floor 2 administrator access?
An admin password can authorize powerful moderation and console actions. Treat it like a server credential, not like an ordinary player password.
- Use a long, unique password that is not reused for Steam, email, or other services.
- Do not post the password in public chat, screenshots, tickets, or configuration snippets shared with players.
- Prefer separate WebAdmin accounts for co-administrators so access can be assigned without distributing one shared secret.

What does Steam application ID 232130 identify?
