Portal is now the current Cfx.re management surface for FiveM server keys and granted assets. Cfx.re deprecated Keymaster’s Assets and Grants pages on October 15, 2025. To migrate, sign in to the Portal account that owns the server, create or select a server registration key, keep that value in server.cfg as sv_licenseKey, and use Portal’s separate transfer workflow for any granted assets. A working existing key does not need to be replaced simply because the management page moved.
What changed on October 15, 2025
Cfx.re announced on October 14, 2025 that the Assets and Grants pages in Keymaster would be deprecated the following day. The announcement advised owners who still relied on Keymaster for server or asset functions to begin moving to Portal. Portal is therefore the current place to manage these functions; old Keymaster bookmarks and screenshots are not a reliable guide to the current interface.

“If you’re still relying on Keymaster for certain server and/or asset functions, we recommend beginning your transition to Portal as soon as possible.” — Cfx.re, October 14, 2025
The change affects where you manage credentials and ownership. It does not change the server configuration variable consumed by a FiveM server. Cfx.re documentation still identifies sv_licenseKey as the server variable, with Portal as the place to obtain a key.

What the migration does not mean
- It is not a requirement to buy a hosting package, move to a new operating system, or replace your server hardware.
- It is not an automatic transfer of resources, databases, or configuration files.
- It is not the same operation as transferring a granted asset to another account.
- It does not, according to the reviewed Cfx.re instructions, require every owner to regenerate a key when an existing server still starts normally with its current value.
How the Portal key fits into a FiveM server
Your server reads a license value at startup. In a conventional installation, that value is in the active server.cfg file:
sv_licenseKey "your-key"
The text between the quotation marks is the value generated or selected in Portal. Portal is the management interface; server.cfg remains the deployment-side configuration file. Keeping that distinction clear prevents a common mistake: transferring an asset or creating a Portal key does not, by itself, edit the configuration on your machine or hosting account.

If you are setting up a new server, rebuilding a machine, or replacing a key deliberately, obtain the Portal value and then update the active configuration.
Prepare before changing anything
A short inventory reduces downtime and makes it clear whether you need a key change, an asset transfer, or both.
- Identify the owning Cfx.re account. The account you use in Portal must be the one that owns the server registration or the granted asset you intend to manage.
- Locate the active configuration. Confirm which
server.cfgyour launch command, service, control panel, or txAdmin deployment actually loads. Editing an unused copy has no effect. - Record the current state. Note whether the server starts, the current key’s presence (do not publish the secret), the active recipe or launch command, and the resources that depend on granted assets.
- Plan a restart window. A configuration change is read at startup, so players will need to reconnect after a restart.
- Separate ownership work from configuration work. List any assets that must move to another username; that process has its own confirmation email and does not replace the server key.
Step-by-step: move a server from Keymaster to Portal
1. Sign in to the correct Portal account
Open the Cfx.re Portal and authenticate with the Cfx.re account that owns the server. Do not rely on a saved Keymaster page to select the account: the old page may be unavailable or may not expose the Assets and Grants functions after the deprecation date.

If you manage several servers, verify the account before generating anything. A key created under a different account can be valid but still be the wrong credential for your ownership and administration plan. Keep your Portal session private and do not paste a key into a public issue, screenshot, stream overlay, or chat message.

2. Create or select a server registration key
Use Portal’s server registration keys area. The documented setup flow is:
- Click the Portal link and sign in with Cfx.re.
- Choose Create a key when you need a new registration.
- Enter a display name that identifies the server or environment, such as a production or test instance.
- Generate the key and copy the complete value exactly as shown.
If Portal already lists the key you intend to use, select that key instead of creating duplicates. A descriptive name helps you recognize a key later, but it is not the value that belongs in server.cfg. Copy only the generated key string, not surrounding labels or whitespace.
3. Decide whether the configuration actually needs editing
There are two safe cases:
- Existing deployment works: keep the current
sv_licenseKeyvalue. The deprecation of Keymaster’s pages does not itself prove that a working server key has expired. - New, rebuilt, or failing deployment: replace the value in the active configuration with the Portal key you selected or created.
In a vanilla deployment, the entry should use the documented variable and quotation marks:
sv_licenseKey "your-key"
Preserve the rest of the configuration. Do not paste the key into a resource manifest, database field, operating-system name, or a second configuration file unless your deployment system explicitly generates server.cfg from a template. If a panel or script rewrites the file at startup, change the panel’s source setting instead of editing a generated copy.

4. Enter the key in txAdmin when using a recipe
For a txAdmin installation created through a recipe, use the key in the recipe’s Before you begin step. The documented sequence is to enter the Portal-created key, click Run Recipe, and finish with Save & Run Server.
Do not assume that running a recipe updates an already deployed, hand-edited configuration. Review the generated configuration after the recipe completes and confirm that the resulting server uses the intended key. If you maintain separate test and production recipes, check that you entered the key for the correct environment.
5. Restart and verify startup
Restart the server through the same method you normally use: your service manager, launch script, hosting panel, or txAdmin. Watch the startup output from the beginning rather than checking only whether the process remains running.
A successful verification includes:
- The process reads the expected
server.cfgpath. - The startup output does not report a missing, rejected, or malformed license value.
- The server reaches its normal ready state and can be joined by an authorized test client.
- Resources that require granted assets initialize as expected.
Never publish the key while asking for help. Redact it in logs and screenshots, and provide only the surrounding error text and the configuration path.

Transfer granted assets separately
Server-key configuration and asset ownership are separate operations. If a script, vehicle, map, or other granted asset belongs to one Cfx.re account and must move to another, use Portal’s Granted Assets page:

- Open Granted Assets in Portal.
- Select the asset you want to move.
- Choose Transfer.
- Enter the destination username.
- Confirm the request through the email Cfx.re sends.
The destination username must be entered accurately. Treat the transfer as an ownership action: it changes which account is entitled to manage or use the granted item, but it does not rewrite server.cfg, move files on disk, copy a database, or restart a server. After the transfer is confirmed, deploy the asset’s files and configuration on the destination server according to the asset provider’s instructions, then perform the normal restart and startup check.
If the asset does not appear in Granted Assets, first verify that you are signed in to the owning account. A missing listing is an ownership or account-selection problem, not evidence that changing sv_licenseKey will fix the asset.
Troubleshoot the most common migration failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Portal key was created, but the server behaves exactly as before | The running process reads a different configuration file, or the old key was intentionally left in place | Inspect the launch command, service definition, panel setting, or txAdmin-generated path; confirm which file contains the active sv_licenseKey. |
| Startup reports an invalid or missing license value | Incomplete copy, altered characters, wrong account/key, malformed quoting, or an empty variable | Copy the value again from Portal, use sv_licenseKey "your-key", check for accidental line breaks, and verify the Portal account. |
| Changes disappear after a restart | A hosting panel, recipe, or deployment script regenerates server.cfg |
Edit the source template or panel field, then regenerate and restart; do not keep editing a disposable generated file. |
| txAdmin recipe completes but the server does not start | The key was entered in a different step, the recipe wrote another configuration, or another startup setting failed | Review the recipe’s Before you begin entry, generated configuration, and the first relevant startup error. |
| An asset is unavailable after an account change | The transfer was not confirmed, the destination username was incorrect, or local resource files were not deployed | Check the confirmation email and Granted Assets ownership, then verify the resource files and configuration on the destination server. |
| The old Keymaster page or bookmark no longer shows Grants | The Assets and Grants pages were deprecated on October 15, 2025 | Use Portal for key and granted-asset management; do not treat an old screenshot as the current workflow. |
Change one variable at a time. First establish that the server is reading the intended configuration and key. Only then investigate unrelated resources, ports, firewall rules, or application errors. This order prevents a license migration from being confused with a general server failure.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose a deployment route after migration
Cfx.re’s setup documentation lists Windows, Linux, txAdmin, and game-server hosting providers as supported ways to run a FiveM server. Portal does not force a particular route. Choose based on who will operate the machine and how much control you need.
| Route | Control | Operational effort | Migration checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-managed Windows | Direct access to files, services, firewall, and scheduled tasks | You maintain artifacts, updates, backups, and recovery | Confirm the service or batch file points to the intended server.cfg; preserve resource and data directories during a rebuild. |
| Self-managed Linux | Fine-grained control through shell, services, permissions, and firewall tools | You maintain packages, launch units, logs, updates, and backups | Check the service unit’s working directory and configuration argument; ensure the account running the server can read the file. |
| txAdmin | Web-based recipe and administration workflow | Recipes simplify setup, while you still manage the server’s data and settings | Enter the key in Before you begin, run the recipe, then inspect the generated configuration before saving and running. |
| Managed game-server hosting | Provider panel abstracts much of the machine and network administration | Provider may handle updates, backups, and restarts, depending on its service | Confirm that the panel permits editing server.cfg, retaining resource/data directories, selecting the correct startup file, and performing a clean restart. |
Compare available player slots, CPU and RAM allocations, storage, exposed ports, firewall controls, backup access, and the provider’s method for restoring files. Hosting is optional; Portal migration itself does not require purchasing hardware or a hosting package.

Security and continuity practices
Protect the license value
Store the key with the same care as other server credentials. Limit file and panel access to administrators, remove it from public repositories, and redact it before sharing diagnostics. If you suspect exposure, use Portal’s key-management controls to determine the appropriate replacement and then update the active configuration during a planned restart.
Keep an account and asset inventory
Document which Cfx.re account owns each server registration and granted asset, who can access that account, and where the production configuration is generated. This record is especially useful when a team member leaves or when a server is moved between a local machine and a hosting provider. Ownership documentation should never contain the full secret key in an unsecured note.
Test in the same order every time
- Confirm the Portal account and intended key.
- Confirm the deployment’s active configuration path.
- Confirm the exact
sv_licenseKeysyntax and value placement. - Restart through the normal operational path.
- Read startup output, then test a connection and the resources affected by any asset transfer.
This sequence gives you a reproducible rollback point: if the new configuration fails, restore the previous known-good file, restart, and investigate the one changed item without deleting resources or databases.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to replace a key that still works?
No. The documented change is the move of Keymaster’s Assets and Grants functions to Portal. There is no reviewed Cfx.re instruction requiring every functioning server to regenerate its existing key. Replace it when you are creating a new deployment, deliberately rotating credentials, or diagnosing a key-specific failure.
Will moving a granted asset move its files?
No. Portal’s transfer confirms ownership between usernames. You still need to place the resource files, configuration, and any required data on the destination server, then restart and verify it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCan I migrate without changing operating systems?
Yes. Portal is the management destination, not a hosting migration. A server can remain on Windows or Linux, use txAdmin, or run with a hosting provider as long as the deployment can read a valid sv_licenseKey from its active configuration.
What should I do if I cannot see the server or asset in Portal?
Sign out and verify the Cfx.re account that originally owns the registration or grant. If the account is correct, preserve the server’s current configuration and startup logs while you resolve the ownership issue; do not delete working files or transfer an unrelated asset as a workaround.
