Wisdom of Sea and Sky is a digital expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket, featuring Ho-Oh, Lugia and other Pokémon from Johto. The Pokémon Company International announced it for 29 July 2025 at 11 p.m. PDT, with “over 200 new cards to collect.” That is the publisher’s description, not an independently audited card count.
What is Wisdom of Sea and Sky?
Wisdom of Sea and Sky is an expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket, the mobile card game available for iOS and Android. The official announcement presented it through in-game booster packs, including packs featuring Ho-Oh and Lugia; it did not announce a physical tabletop release. The expansion brings in Pokémon and Trainers associated with Johto, the region introduced in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. The Pokémon Company International’s announcement describes the set as containing over 200 new cards. The official Pokémon Asia ENG trailer also presents Ho-Oh and Lugia packs joining the game’s lineup.
Wisdom of Sea and Sky release date
The Pokémon Company International announced the expansion on 24 July 2025 and scheduled its release for 29 July 2025 at 11 p.m. PDT. That time falls on 30 July in some time zones, which explains why the official trailer describes the packs as arriving on Wednesday, 30 July. The two dates refer to the same scheduled release moment, expressed in different time zones.
What cards are in Wisdom of Sea and Sky?
The announcement highlights the Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh and Lugia, as well as Johto first-partner Pokémon Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile, other Pokémon, and Trainers. It identifies Ho-Oh and Lugia booster packs as part of the expansion, but the cited official material does not give a current, card-by-card breakdown of pack contents or establish pack odds or exclusive cards.

If you are choosing between the two packs, use the current in-game card lists and your own collection goals to decide which one to open. The announcement alone does not establish that one pack has better odds, stronger cards, or greater value than the other.
What happened to the Ho-Oh ex and Lugia ex artwork?
On 29 July 2025, Pokémon TCG Pocket published a separate notice about a production issue affecting the immersive illustrations for Ho-Oh ex and Lugia ex. The company said incorrect materials had been supplied to the commissioned illustrator. It temporarily replaced both cards’ illustrations with placeholder art while new illustrations were prepared, and said it was investigating whether similar issues affected other content in the game.
The notice said, “We take this matter very seriously and are committed to strengthening our quality control processes to prevent this from happening again.” It did not establish the eventual status of the replacement artwork. Read the official notice regarding the illustrations.

For current trading costs, available exchanges and wishlist limits, check the game itself rather than relying on the 2025 announcement.
