Riot’s documented route is to uninstall the game through Windows and reinstall it with Riot Client; a third-party guide also describes moving the existing game folder and asking the client to locate it. That second method may preserve local files, but Riot’s support pages reviewed here do not document or guarantee it.
Choose how to move the installation

Use the reinstall method if you want Riot’s documented baseline. Try the folder move only if you are comfortable with an unofficial procedure and can fall back to reinstalling.
Option 1: Uninstall and reinstall VALORANT
- Close Riot Client. Riot says the client must be closed to uninstall Riot games through Windows.
- In Windows, open Installed apps, select VALORANT, and choose the uninstall option. A restart may be needed to complete removal.
- Download Riot Client from RiotGames.com, then use it to install VALORANT.
- Choose the new drive if the installer gives you an installation-location choice. Riot confirms that VALORANT can be installed somewhere other than its default path, but its support page does not spell out the current installer screens for choosing a location.
Riot’s uninstall and reinstall instructions describe the Windows removal and Riot Client installation route. The Riot Client, Riot says, “will facilitate the download and installation of your game.”
Option 2: Move the existing folder and try to relink it
Dot Esports describes moving the VALORANT folder to the destination drive and then using Riot Client’s Install flow to point it to the existing files. This is third-party advice, not a Riot-confirmed relocation procedure, so the client’s behavior may vary.

- Find the Riot Games folder containing the VALORANT installation.
- Move the VALORANT folder to the desired location on the other drive. Avoid deleting it while moving.
- Open Riot Client and begin the Install flow for VALORANT. If the client offers a way to select or locate existing files, point it to the moved folder and follow the prompts.
- If the client does not offer that choice or does not recognize the files, stop rather than editing Riot configuration files. Use the uninstall-and-reinstall method or contact Riot Support.
The specific move-and-relink steps are described in Dot Esports’ guide to moving VALORANT to another drive. They are not established by Riot’s support documentation, so do not treat reuse of the files as assured.
Check security rules after changing the path
If Windows Firewall or antivirus exceptions refer to VALORANT or Riot executables at their old locations, check whether those rules need updating to match the new installation path. Riot’s firewall guidance lists default paths and notes that the path differs when VALORANT is installed elsewhere.

Do not use clean-uninstall steps for an ordinary move
Riot’s clean-uninstall troubleshooting procedure deletes Riot and VALORANT folders in the game directory and Local AppData. Those are cleanup steps for troubleshooting, not routine requirements for changing drives. Do not delete Local AppData folders just to relocate the installation; follow Riot’s clean-uninstall guidance only when you are intentionally performing that procedure.
