His confirmed themes are powerful Optic Blasts, strong hand-to-hand combat, and the Phoenix Force. You can prepare by learning the game’s shared combo and team systems—but the sequences below are general examples, not verified Cyclops routes.
What is confirmed about Cyclops?
Arc System Works producer Takeshi Yamanaka announced Phoenix Cyclops as the first additional character in Year 1 content on July 23, 2026. This version draws on Cyclops’s Phoenix Five incarnation from Avengers vs. X-Men. The announcement names powerful Optic Blasts, exceptional hand-to-hand combat abilities, and the Phoenix Force as inspirations for the character, but it does not explain how they work as in-game moves. Read the official Cyclops announcement.
Yamanaka said, “We’ll have more to share about how these abilities are incorporated into his gameplay, so please stay tuned for future updates on his fighting style.” Without a confirmed command list, it would be guesswork to describe Cyclops as a zoner, assign properties to his blasts, or claim he has a Phoenix-powered install, specific confirms, or an optimal combo route.
The game’s official FAQ lists its 20-character launch roster without Cyclops. It also documents Training Mode features that will be useful once he is playable: command inputs, frame data, damage display, scenario presets, and recorded or replayed bots. Check the official FAQ and in-game Character Guide for current availability and move information.

Learn the game’s universal combo system
The official beginner guide gives these Link Attack examples. They teach shared game mechanics; none is confirmed as a Cyclops combo. On PlayStation, Light is Square (□), Medium is Triangle (△), Heavy is Circle (○), and Cross (×) is the Assemble button. Button mappings can differ on other platforms or with customized controls, so use the named buttons as well as the symbols.
| Example input | What the beginner guide says it leads to |
|---|---|
| Light → Light → Light → Light (□ → □ → □ → □) | A Skill; it can also trigger a Break, which may transition the stage. |
| Medium → Medium → Medium (△ → △ → △) | A Super Skill. |
| Heavy → Heavy → Heavy (○ → ○ → ○) | An Ultimate Skill. |
| Light → Medium → Heavy → Skill → Assemble Rush → Follow-up Attack | An example of a more advanced team combo. |
Start with the game’s Startup Battle tutorial, then practice these shared sequences in Training Mode. When Cyclops’s actual kit is available, build routes from his own moves: confirm the input, the hit or block condition, assist timing, and ender in the Character Guide and Training Mode rather than assuming a generic example transfers to him.

Choose between Quick Skills and Command Inputs
The beginner guide describes two ways to perform Skills. Quick Skills use a single button and are suggested as an accessible starting point. Command Inputs take more execution but the guide says they deal slightly more damage and generate more Skill Gauge; their functionality is otherwise similar. This is a general comparison, not a Cyclops-specific test.
| Input style | Practical trade-off |
|---|---|
| Quick Skills | Simpler execution; useful while learning spacing and timing. |
| Command Inputs | More execution; the guide says they offer slightly higher damage and more Skill Gauge generation. |
Begin with Quick Skills if you are learning the system. Then try the command version in Training Mode and compare the displayed damage and gauge for Cyclops once his moves are available. The guide does not publish exact damage values.

Use defense and team calls to create openings
These are documented shared mechanics, not Cyclops-specific defensive options or evidence of a preferred team composition.
- Guard: Hold back (←) to guard standing, or down-back (↙) to guard crouching.
- Assemble Counter: While not guarding, press Square + Cross (□ + ×). The character backsteps and automatically counters if the opponent attacks during the maneuver.
- Crossover: While guarding, press Square + Cross (□ + ×) to call in a teammate, interrupt the opponent, and create a counteroffensive opening.
- Assemble Assist: Press Cross (×) to call an assist. Direction selects among teammates: neutral or right for the second, down for the third, and left for the fourth. A directional input with L2 switches to a teammate.
- Assist-to-switch: After an assist, a brief on-screen “Switch?” prompt allows an L2 switch. The beginner guide recommends learning assists before adding direct switching and assist-to-switch techniques.
Test Cyclops’s assist and tag behavior in Training Mode when he is available. Until those properties are documented or verified in-game, a “best team” recommendation would be speculative.

How Cyclops fits into the game
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a 4v4 team fighter. Its official Steam listing describes adjustable controls, traditional and quick inputs, easy chain combos, offline Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, and Character Guides. It also lists a Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass with four post-launch characters and one stage; Cyclops’s reveal identifies him as the first Year 1 addition. The store listing does not establish that Cyclops is included with every edition, so check the current product and pass terms for your platform. See the official Steam listing.
For PC, that listing confirms DualSense controller support, alongside adjustable controls. It does not establish that a particular controller is competitively superior. The game’s team structure also does not necessarily require mastering every character: Arc System Works Game Director and Lead Battle Designer Kazuto Sekine told PlayStation Blog on June 4, 2025, “Generally, a team VS fighting game requires the player to learn multiple characters, but for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, you only need to master one character in order to play the game.” Read the PlayStation Blog overview.
