Frostbeam is a relatively low-action-count Frost Mage DPS specialization built around long Frostbeam channels, with Tidepool cast during the beam to add area damage in burst windows. Its rhythm is simple to learn but not hands-off: channeling slows movement, much of the damage is concentrated in burst windows, and short, deliberate channels help conserve energy between cooldowns.

How the Frostbeam rotation works

The rotation alternates between burst windows, when key cooldowns are available, and downtime, when you conserve energy rather than holding the beam indefinitely. The sequence below follows Prydwen’s Frostbeam guide, last updated 24 January 2026; it is third-party advice, and later patch changes have not been verified.

Burst window

  1. Use available Imagines.
  2. Use Glacier Hymn if it is available.
  3. Activate Permafrost.
  4. Begin channeling Frostbeam, then cast Tidepool as soon as the beam begins.
  5. Continue channeling Frostbeam until your energy is depleted.

Do not hold Permafrost or Tidepool while waiting for Glacier Hymn if they are already ready. The guide’s sequence puts available cooldowns to work rather than delaying the burst.

Downtime between cooldowns

  1. Use Maelstrom when it is available.
  2. Channel Frostbeam until two sets of Ice Arrows fire.
  3. Cancel Frostbeam, then repeat the short-channel loop while waiting for cooldowns.

Prydwen says to cancel by pressing Frostbeam again or dodging. This shorter loop matters because energy regeneration is not enough to sustain long uninterrupted channels when the relevant cooldowns are unavailable.

Positioning and channel management

Frostbeam slows your movement while channeling. Before committing to a long cast, account for enemy attacks, movement requirements, and encounter mechanics; a burst window is valuable only if you can safely maintain the channel.

The guide advises against autoplay, reasoning that the AI may spend cooldowns at poor times and does not cancel Frostbeam during downtime to conserve energy. This is the guide’s assessment, not a separately verified test.

Build and gear: dated endgame guidance

Prydwen’s fully min-maxed setup assumes level 140/150 set gear and a level 150 relic weapon. Treat its gearing details as a progression-specific snapshot, not universal requirements or confirmed current-patch best-in-slot advice.

  • Stats and gems: Balance Cast Speed and Magic Attack on applicable purple gear lines; split gem slots between Haste and Crit. The guide also discusses Crit Rate, Haste, Mastery, and Versatility as relevant stats.
  • Set and weapon: The guide recommends Frostbeam two-piece and four-piece set bonuses when available and says a class weapon is worthwhile over purple stats.
  • Imagines: Its full build lists Rorola and Muku Chief as a recommended combination.
  • Consumables: It names Spiced Lamb Rib Delight and Frost Lizard Spine Reagent Lv. 3 as damage-oriented choices, with Savory Roast Lamb Ribs or Hearty Stewed Meat, and Spiritbreath Oil Lv. 3, as alternatives.

These are in-game gear, build, and consumable recommendations from the guide. They may change with patches or as your character progresses.

What the spec is good at—and what to weigh

Prydwen describes Frostbeam’s strengths as area damage and crowd control, with low action count as a practical advantage. Its main tradeoffs are reduced mobility during channels and damage that depends heavily on burst timing. The available sources do not establish a current, apples-to-apples ranking against the other Frost Mage specialization, so choose Frostbeam for its channel-and-burst playstyle rather than on an unsupported claim that it is stronger.

Source and patch context

The rotation and build recommendations here are attributed to Prydwen’s Frostbeam guide, which lists 24 January 2026 as its last update. A NoBS Game Guides video published 21 October 2025 offers another dated player reference, but does not establish current optimality. No current official Frostbeam-specific documentation or verified later patch changes are established by these sources.
