The Battlefield 6 Open Beta is over: its public weekends ran August 9–10 and August 14–17, 2025. This guide explains how all seven modes worked during that limited test; it does not describe a way to join the beta now. EA’s beta access announcement lists the dates and supported platforms.
Which modes were available, and when?
EA listed five modes for the first weekend. The second weekend kept those five and added Rush and Squad Deathmatch. Weekend 2 also added Empire State, an infantry-only Brooklyn map, to the map lineup. Playable combat zones and objective placement were tailored to individual modes, so a map did not necessarily use the same layout in every playlist. See EA’s Open Beta overview for the original lineup and rules.
| Mode | Beta availability | Objective at a glance |
|---|---|---|
| Conquest | Weekends 1 and 2 | Capture and hold multiple objectives |
| Breakthrough | Weekends 1 and 2 | Attackers capture successive sectors; defenders stop them |
| Closed Weapons Breakthrough | Weekends 1 and 2 | Breakthrough rules with class-locked weapons |
| Domination | Weekends 1 and 2 | Fight over multiple control points |
| King of the Hill | Weekends 1 and 2 | Take and hold a single active point |
| Rush | Weekend 2 only | Attackers plant explosives at M-COMs; defenders defuse them |
| Squad Deathmatch | Weekend 2 only | Four squads race to the kill target |
How to play each mode
Conquest
Capture and hold several objectives around the map. The team controlling more objectives steadily drains the opposing team’s lives; a match ends when one team’s lives reach zero. Captures, eliminations, and revives all contribute to the battle, and reviving a teammate preserves a life. Work with your squad to take ground, defend it, and use classes or vehicles to support the objective rather than wandering after fights.
Breakthrough
One team attacks while the other defends. Attackers push through a sequence of sectors, capturing the two points in each sector to move the front line forward. Defenders try to hold or retake the sector and deplete the attackers’ limited lives. Attackers need to concentrate their push and secure the sector before advancing; defenders should counterattack while preventing attackers from completing captures.

Closed Weapons Breakthrough
Play the same attacker-versus-defender sector objective as Breakthrough, but with weapons locked to class. The weapon restriction is the defining difference; it does not create a separate map or a different win condition. Choose a class whose role suits the sector and coordinate with teammates rather than expecting to equip any weapon on any class.
Domination
Capture and hold multiple control points in a fast, infantry-focused fight. Scoring comes from holding objectives, so move between points with teammates and contest them instead of treating the mode as a simple elimination race. EA’s later general mode description characterized Domination as infantry-only; that is launch-era context, while its inclusion in the beta is established by the beta lineup.

King of the Hill
Fight as a squad to control one capture point. Group up to take the active point and hold it against the other team. EA’s beta overview described the contest intensifying as time ran down. In EA’s later launch-era explanation, control points move, so be ready to reposition when the active objective changes; that moving-point detail is post-beta context, not a claim about every beta match.
Rush
Added for Weekend 2, Rush assigns one team to attack and the other to defend. Attackers arm explosives at a series of Military Communication systems, or M-COMs, and protect them until they detonate. Defenders try to defuse the charges. Once the M-COMs in a sector are destroyed, the battle moves to the next sector; attackers lose if their lives run out before they finish the objectives.

Squad Deathmatch
Also added in Weekend 2, this is a close-quarters contest between four squads. The first squad to reach the kill target wins. Unlike the objective modes, the central goal is to eliminate opponents and outpace the other squads.
How did beta playlists and matchmaking work?
Weekend 2 playlists rotated by day. For Thursday, August 14, EA listed Conquest and Rush, Attack & Defend (Breakthrough and Rush), Close Quarters (Domination and King of the Hill), and Closed Weapons All-Out Warfare (Conquest and Breakthrough). Friday and the rest of the weekend used other combinations, including All-Out Warfare and Close Quarters. These were beta-test rotations, not a planned launch schedule. The complete dated options appeared in EA’s Week 2 playlist announcement.

EA added Custom Search for Weekend 2. Players could select preferred map-and-mode combinations, and matchmaking prioritized them when available. Custom Search was not a server browser: it did not let players browse and join a list of individual servers.

Training Grounds included a Firing Range and introductions to classes, Breakthrough, and Conquest. Players at career rank 15 or below could use Initiation Mode, where AI Soldiers were included and the experience shifted from Breakthrough to Conquest. EA also described a Rush introduction, but it was not playable as a mode.

What the beta guide can—and cannot—help you do now
The beta was available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, or the EA app. Selected viewers and Battlefield Labs participants received early access beginning August 7, 2025; the public weekends followed on August 9–10 and August 14–17. Those dates have passed, so the platform list is historical rather than a current beta sign-up option. EA announced the full game’s launch on October 10, 2025, a separate release from the beta; its later mode descriptions provide context but should not be mistaken for proof that every launch rule matched the beta. EA’s beta access announcement covers access and platforms, and EA’s launch announcement marks the later release.
