To play eligible games offline on PS5, download and install them while connected, then enable Console Sharing and Offline Play for the account that owns them. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play and select Enable. Once set up, users of that PS5 can play purchased and downloaded games and media offline, although individual games may still require an internet connection for some or all features.
Prepare your PS5 before you lose internet
- Sign in with the account that owns the game. The account must have access to the title, either through a purchase or an eligible subscription benefit.
- Download and install the game while online. PlayStation says the feature covers games and media that have been purchased and downloaded. On PS5 Digital Edition, an internet connection and account sign-in are required to purchase and download games, so offline access cannot fetch a game you have not already installed. - Enable offline play. Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play, then choose Enable. Sony says this is automatically allowed on the first PS5 you use to sign in, so check the setting rather than assuming it needs changing.
- Finish downloads and check the game before disconnecting. Install any updates or additional content you expect to need, then launch the game while online. This is practical preparation; Sony does not describe it as a required test procedure.
- Disconnect and try the mode you intend to play. Offline single-player may work while online multiplayer, cloud features, or other connected modes do not. Game-specific connection requirements vary.
What works offline—and what may not
Console Sharing and Offline Play makes eligible downloaded content available on one PS5 without an active connection. It does not make every game or feature offline-capable. A title may require a network connection to start, authenticate, or use particular modes; Sony’s support guidance does not provide a complete game-by-game offline compatibility list. Check the individual game’s official product or support information if you need certainty, especially for a trip or after a server shutdown.

- Purchased and installed games: eligible games can be played offline when the console-sharing setting is enabled for the purchasing account.
- Online multiplayer: requires a network connection. Sony notes that most PS4 and PS5 multiplayer games also require PlayStation Plus, with exceptions identified in the PlayStation Store. See PlayStation Plus support.
- Subscription games: access can depend on the plan, the game’s availability in the catalog, and whether the subscription remains active. Having a game installed does not remove those conditions.
Using another account or moving to a different PS5
Console Sharing and Offline Play is active on only one PS5 per account at a time. Other users on that enabled console can access eligible shared content, but an account cannot designate two PS5 consoles for this feature simultaneously. To switch consoles, disable the feature on the previous PS5, then enable it on the new one. Sony’s console deactivation guidance also allows remote deactivation of all devices if the old console is inaccessible; Sony limits that remote option to once every six months.
Which PlayStation Plus benefits can be shared?
On the PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled, some Plus benefits can be shared with other users while the subscriber remains a member. Fix a lock icon or a game that will not start
A lock can indicate a license or network problem. Check ownership first: sign in to the account that bought the game, or confirm that the owner’s Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on this PS5. If an error persists, follow Sony’s game-launch troubleshooting guide in this order:
- Check PlayStation service status.
- Update the PS5 system software.
- Confirm Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled for the account with access.
- Restore licenses in the console settings.
- If needed, use Safe Mode to rebuild the database, following Sony’s instructions.
Checking services or restoring licenses may require an internet connection. If you are preparing for a planned offline period, resolve licensing and launch problems before disconnecting.
