To put a player into Hytale Creative mode on a dedicated server, enter gamemode creative <playername> in the server console. What must be ready before I change a player’s mode?
Prepare the server, connection details and authorization before entering the command. Hypixel Studios’ official manual, updated October 12, 2026, states that a Hytale server can run on a device with at least 4GB of memory and Java 25. Administrative access
Ordinary players do not receive Hytale command permissions by default. The command-permission reference says that operators have the * wildcard and that the console can use commands; other players need an explicit permission through permissions.json or the /perm tools. Being able to place or break blocks does not, by itself, prove that an account can run administrative commands.
How do I enable Creative mode from the server console?
The console is the most reliable route because it does not depend on the player already having command permission. Nodecraft’s syntax omits the slash when the command is entered in the dedicated-server console.
- Start the dedicated Hytale server and wait until it has finished loading.

How can an operator switch mode from in-game chat?

Granting and removing an operator
Once an authorized administrator can use the console, the administrator guide lists these commands:
/op add <playername>grants operator status to the named player./op remove <playername>removes operator status from the named player.
Run these from the console or from an account that already has permission to administer operators. Keep a record of who received access and remove it when a collaborator no longer needs server administration.
Why least privilege is safer
Operators receive the * wildcard, which is broader than the single ability to change a game mode. On a shared build server, use permissions.json or the /perm tools to grant the narrow permission or group needed for the project when the permission reference exposes it. Give full operator status only to people you trust with every command available on the server.
What should I do when Hytale says I do not have permission?
A permission error normally means the command was entered by a non-operator without an explicit grant. Work through the following checks in order.

Can I use a controller for Creative building and server administration?
Hytale Update 5, published May 26, 2026, says that plugging in an Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo Switch controller is detected by the game. The same update cautions that some advanced features may still require a keyboard and mouse.
For a practical setup, connect the supported controller before joining the server, verify that movement and the building actions you need are mapped, and keep a keyboard available for chat commands, names and advanced tools. Controller support is an input convenience; it does not grant operator status and does not replace access to the dedicated-server console.
How should I organize a Creative build session?
