You cannot currently make one documented, vanilla Palworld dedicated-server instance accept more than 32 concurrent players. Pocketpair’s server documentation, version 1.0.4, defines 32 as the maximum and exposes that limit through the -players=32 startup argument and the ServerPlayerMaxNum setting.
If your community is larger than 32 people, the supported planning option is to run multiple separate server instances and divide players between them. The available documentation does not describe a shared-world, merged-save, or seamless-transfer feature between instances, so treat each server as its own Palworld world unless a later official update says otherwise.

Can one Palworld server hold more than 32 players?
No. As of Pocketpair’s official dedicated-server documentation, version 1.0.4, one server instance has a documented ceiling of 32 concurrent participants. The official startup argument is -players=32, and the configuration reference identifies ServerPlayerMaxNum as the maximum number of players who can join the server.
That means a value such as 33, 40, 64, or 100 is not a documented way to expand a vanilla instance. A server may still start after an unsupported value is entered, but the researched documentation does not establish that the extra slots will work. Do not advertise a single-server 64-player setup as supported.

The limit is per instance, not a statement about how many people can belong to your wider gaming community. A group of 40 can organize across two servers, for example, but that is two separate instances with separate operational responsibilities and no documented shared-world system.

- Capacity: Up to 32 concurrent players on one documented dedicated-server instance.
- Configuration: The live setting is
ServerPlayerMaxNuminPalWorldSettings.ini. - Startup form: Pocketpair documents
-players=32as the argument for changing the maximum participant count. - Scope: The value applies to one server instance; it does not combine several servers into one world.
How do you set the supported 32-player limit?
Set the limit in the live server configuration, not in the default template, and restart the server after saving. The exact file location depends on whether the server is running on Windows or Linux.
1. Start the dedicated server once
Launch or install the Palworld dedicated server and run it once. The first start creates the configuration directories and files that the server uses at runtime. Stop the server cleanly before editing its files so that a shutdown does not overwrite your changes.
2. Open the live configuration file
For a Windows Steam or SteamCMD installation, edit:
PalSavedConfigWindowsServerPalWorldSettings.ini
For a Linux SteamCMD installation, edit:
Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini
The file named PalWorldSettings.ini is the live configuration. Pocketpair describes DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini as a default template; changing that template does not apply a new player limit to an already configured server.
3. Set ServerPlayerMaxNum to 32 or lower
Find the ServerPlayerMaxNum entry and set it to a value no greater than 32. A 32-player configuration is the highest value established by the official documentation. Lower values are useful when you want a smaller private group or need to reserve headroom for administration.

Do not create a second setting with a slightly different spelling. Keep the documented name exactly as ServerPlayerMaxNum, and preserve the surrounding syntax already generated by the server.
4. Use the startup argument when your launch method supports it
Pocketpair’s official argument form is -players=32. Add it through the launch method used by your installation when you want the participant limit specified at startup. The argument and the INI setting are the two documented controls; check both when diagnosing a mismatch between the value you expect and the value the server reports.
5. Restart and verify
Save the file, start the server again, and verify the effective player limit from the server’s status or management interface. A restart is required after configuration changes. If the server still shows an old value, stop it, confirm that you edited the correct platform-specific path, and check the launch parameters for a different value.

What is the difference between -players=32 and ServerPlayerMaxNum?
Both are documented ways of expressing the maximum participant count, but they appear in different parts of the setup. The startup argument belongs to the command used to launch the server. ServerPlayerMaxNum belongs to the server’s live INI configuration.
| Control | Where it is set | Documented use | Maximum established by Pocketpair |
|---|---|---|---|
-players=32 |
Server startup command or launch configuration | Changes the maximum number of participants at launch | 32 |
ServerPlayerMaxNum |
PalWorldSettings.ini |
Sets the maximum number of players who can join | 32 |
DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini |
Default template file | Provides defaults; it is not the live runtime file | Not a live capacity control |
When a hosted control panel exposes a player-count field, it may be writing one of these settings behind the scenes. Provider documentation cited in the available material also limits the selectable range to 1–32, and a Docker deployment reference lists allowed player values of 1–32. Those ranges reinforce the official per-instance ceiling but do not create a larger capacity option.
How can a group larger than 32 play Palworld together?
Use multiple dedicated-server instances and assign players to each one. This is the practical arrangement that follows from the documented 32-player limit. It is not the same as expanding one world: each instance must be operated as a separate server, and the available documentation does not promise shared progression or cross-server movement.

Option 1: Two or more independent worlds
Divide the community into groups of no more than 32 and give each group its own server address, configuration, and save data. A 40-person community could use one instance for 20 players and another for 20; a 60-person community could use two instances of 30. The exact split is an administrative choice, but no instance should be planned above the documented ceiling.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteLabel the servers clearly so players know which world they are joining. Use distinct names, passwords, and connection details where appropriate. Keep a written roster if the community wants stable teams, because the official material does not describe an automatic queue or balancing system between instances.
Option 2: Separate activity servers
Some communities may prefer one persistent world and a second world for events, experiments, or overflow. This still counts as multiple independent instances. Characters, bases, inventories, and progression should not be assumed to move between them unless a future Pocketpair feature explicitly documents that behavior.
Option 3: Wait for an official capacity change
Pocketpair could change the limit in a later server version. Before redesigning your setup, check the versioned official server guide and the configuration reference for that release. Until an official document states otherwise, 32 remains the safe planning limit for one instance.
How do you plan multiple Palworld server instances?
Running several servers is an operations problem as much as a player-count problem. Each instance needs its own identity, configuration, save data, network endpoint, and maintenance schedule.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Choose the number of instances. Divide the expected peak population into groups of 32 or fewer. Leave room for moderators if they count toward the concurrent limit.
- Give each instance a distinct name. Include a world or team label in the server name and community instructions. This prevents players from joining the wrong save.
- Keep configuration and save locations separate. Do not point two instances at the same live configuration or save directory unless the platform’s documentation explicitly supports that arrangement. Separate data makes backups and recovery easier.
- Assign separate network endpoints. Multiple processes cannot normally listen on the same endpoint. Configure each instance with its own listening arrangement, and publish the correct public connection details for each one.
- Set the player limit independently. Put a valid
ServerPlayerMaxNumvalue in every instance’s livePalWorldSettings.ini, or supply the documented startup argument for each launch. - Document administrators and backups. Record who can restart each process, where its save files live, and when backups are taken. A failure in one instance should not make the other world unrecoverable.
- Coordinate updates. Apply server updates and configuration changes to every instance, then confirm that players are connecting to compatible builds.
- Publish a transfer policy. Tell players whether the worlds are permanent teams, rotating event servers, or separate communities. Do not promise shared progression when the official documentation does not describe it.
Managed Palworld dedicated-server hosting can simplify process supervision, backups, updates, and network configuration when you need more than one instance. Self-hosting can provide more direct control over files and maintenance, but the same 32-player-per-instance rule still applies.

Can changing the public lobby or port create extra player slots?
No. Visibility and networking settings determine how players find and reach a server; they do not raise its participant ceiling.
Community listing
Pocketpair documents the -publiclobby argument for making a community server visible in the community listing. A private server can use a direct address and password instead. Either visibility choice remains subject to the instance’s configured maximum.

Public IP and public port
Public IP and public port settings tell clients where to connect from outside the host network. Pocketpair specifically notes that the public-port setting does not replace the server’s listening port. Configure both sides correctly, especially when operating more than one instance, and publish the endpoint that actually routes to the intended world.
Platform access
CrossplayPlatforms is a separate server setting. Pocketpair lists Steam, Xbox, PS5, and Mac as its default platform set in the cited configuration material, but administrators should verify the effective list for the installed build. Adding or removing platforms does not change the 32-player limit.
Is there a Palworld 64-player setting?
There is no supported, documented 64-player setting for one vanilla dedicated-server instance in the cited Pocketpair materials. Entering 64 in an INI field or launch argument is outside the documented range and should be treated as an unsupported experiment, not a reliable configuration.
The same applies to claims that a provider panel, Docker variable, or hidden configuration switch guarantees 33 or more players. The provider and Docker references available for this topic both describe ranges ending at 32. A different interface may accept text above that value without making the server capable of handling it.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Can a mod or engine change raise the limit?
No official source in the available documentation describes a mod, plug-in, or engine edit that reliably raises the player cap. Community modifications may exist, but they are not a documented solution and can introduce compatibility, support, save, or security risks. Do not build a large community event around an unverified modification without independent technical validation and a tested recovery plan.
If an unofficial project claims to support more than 32, check which server build it targets, whether every player must install a client modification, how updates are handled, and whether the author documents save recovery. None of those checks changes the official answer: the supported vanilla ceiling remains 32 per instance.
Why is my Palworld server not using the player count I set?
Most configuration problems come from editing the wrong file, changing a template instead of the live file, or forgetting to restart. Work through these checks in order.
The value reverted after a restart
- Confirm that you edited
PalWorldSettings.ini, notDefaultPalWorldSettings.ini. - Use the path for the actual platform:
WindowsServerfor Windows orLinuxServerfor Linux SteamCMD. - Stop the server before editing and save the file with the same name and extension.
- Check whether a control panel regenerates the file from its own player-count field.
The server still reports an old number
- Restart the server process after changing the file.
- Inspect the startup command for a
-playersargument that does not match the INI value. - Make sure you are checking the status of the intended instance rather than a second process or a different host.
- Test with a value at or below 32; values above the documented range are not a valid troubleshooting baseline.
Players cannot find or join the server
- Check whether
-publiclobbyis enabled if you expect community-listing visibility. - Verify the public IP, public port, and listening port separately; the public-port setting does not replace the listening port.
- Review the effective
CrossplayPlatformslist for the client platforms in your group. - Give players the endpoint for the correct instance when several worlds are running.
Which setup is right for a community larger than 32?
| Setup | Capacity | World continuity | Administration | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One vanilla instance | Up to 32 documented players | One world and one save | One configuration, backup set, update schedule, and network endpoint | A group that can stay at or below 32 concurrent players |
| Multiple vanilla instances | Up to 32 per instance | Separate worlds; shared progression is not documented | Each instance needs its own files, endpoint, backups, and maintenance | A community that needs more than 32 total participants |
| Unofficial modification | Not established by the official materials | Depends on the modification | Additional compatibility and recovery risk | Only for communities willing to accept unsupported behavior |
| Wait for an official update | Whatever a later documented version supports | Depends on the eventual feature | Recheck the versioned guide before changing architecture | Groups that require one shared world |
What should you check before inviting a large group?
- Count concurrent players, not the total number of people in your community.
- Set every instance to a documented value of 32 or lower.
- Edit the live
PalWorldSettings.iniafter the server has created its configuration directory. - Keep
DefaultPalWorldSettings.iniseparate from runtime configuration. - Restart each server after changes and verify the effective value.
- Give every world a distinct name and connection endpoint.
- Explain that separate instances are separate worlds unless Pocketpair documents a transfer or merge feature.
- Decide whether each server should appear in the community listing with
-publiclobbyor remain private. - Confirm public IP, public port, listening port, and password instructions for every instance.
- Review
CrossplayPlatformsfor the platforms your players use. - Back up each save and record the administrator responsible for recovery.
- Recheck Pocketpair’s documentation whenever the server version changes.
What is the practical answer for a 33-player group?
Do not try to force 33 players into one documented vanilla instance. Keep the first server at 32 or fewer and place the remaining player on a second instance, or wait for an official capacity change if one shared world is essential. Tell the group in advance that the second instance will have its own world and progression because the available documentation does not describe a merged or shared-save arrangement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does adding more RAM let a Palworld server exceed 32 players?
No documented Pocketpair setting links additional memory to a higher per-instance player cap. Provider-specific memory advice may help a host choose hardware, but it should not be presented as an official requirement or as proof that extra slots are available.
Can players transfer their characters or bases between two Palworld servers?
The cited server documentation does not describe cross-instance character, inventory, base, or save transfer. Plan separate worlds and progression unless a later Pocketpair release explicitly documents a transfer feature.
Do I need a public lobby to host more than 32 people?
No. -publiclobby controls community-listing visibility, while the player limit is controlled separately. Multiple private instances can still be used, provided each player receives the correct address, port, and password.
Which platforms can join a Palworld dedicated server?
Pocketpair lists Steam, Xbox, PS5, and Mac as the default CrossplayPlatforms values in the cited configuration material. Verify the effective platform list for your installed build because platform access is independent of the 32-player capacity.
Is managed hosting required for a group larger than 32?
No. You can operate separate instances yourself or use managed Palworld dedicated-server hosting. Hosting choice affects administration, backups, updates, and networking; it does not remove the documented 32-player ceiling per instance.
