Plunderstorm is not confirmed to be playable as of October 8, 2026. Blizzard’s last documented run ended on February 25, 2025. If Blizzard brings it back, the steps below explain how players entered that version; check a current Blizzard announcement before trying to follow them. Blizzard’s January 2026 recap mentioned a future standalone event from the team behind modes such as Plunderstorm or Remix, but did not announce Plunderstorm’s return.

Is Plunderstorm still available?

Blizzard described Plunderstorm as a limited-time pirate-themed battle royale accessed through the World of Warcraft client. Its last documented return ended February 25, 2025, alongside the Undermine(d) content update. Blizzard’s official information reviewed here does not establish that the mode is playable on October 8, 2026. The January 2026 recap’s reference to a future standalone event does not confirm that Plunderstorm itself will return.

So, treat the instructions below as the documented way to enter during the 2025 event, not as guaranteed current menu directions or access requirements. Follow a new Blizzard announcement if the mode becomes available again.

How players entered Plunderstorm during its 2025 run

  1. Launch modern World of Warcraft. Players used the Live client through the Battle.net desktop app. Blizzard’s event instructions said an expansion purchase was not required, but a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time was required for that run.
  2. Open the Plunderstorm mode. From the game or character-selection screen, players selected Plunderstorm in the modes menu. During the 2025 run, modern WoW characters could also queue through the Group Finder’s PvP tab.
  3. Choose and customize an event character. The event generated a character for the match; players did not need to know WoW races or classes to take part.
  4. Select a queue. The 2025 event offered Practice, Solo, Duo, and Trio options. Players entering Duo without a partner could be matched automatically.
  5. Use the lobby to prepare and choose a drop location. In the 2025 version, the Practice Lobby let players try spells and adjust key bindings before a match.

What happens in a Plunderstorm match?

Blizzard described matches as 60-player, last-player-standing contests in the Arathi Highlands, typically lasting 10–15 minutes. Players fought creatures and other players, opened chests, gained levels, and collected abilities while avoiding the encroaching storm. In the 2025 return, non-elite enemies respawned, and horses at spawn points helped players cross the map.

Find and improve abilities

Players collected offensive abilities and utility skills, including leaps, speed boosts, and crowd control. Abilities were added to the action bar automatically. A stronger version could replace a weaker one, or players could stack copies of an ability up to Rank 3 (epic), the maximum described in Blizzard’s 2024 guide. Because some skills depended on aim or positioning, trying different combinations was part of learning how they worked.

Choose how cautiously to play

Players could focus on looting, defeating creatures, and levelling before seeking fights, or look for early engagements with other players. Blizzard documented the core loop but did not establish one approach as universally best; the choice depends on how readily you want to take risks and how comfortable you are with your abilities.

What could players earn?

Blizzard listed cosmetics, pets, titles, mounts, and other rewards from event progression and the Plunderstore. Winning was not necessary to progress: Blizzard’s guide said, “A victory is not required to claim the spoils of a well-fought fight.”

The rewards varied by run. Blizzard’s 2024 guide named the Polly Roger parrot mount, Bubbles the crab pet, swashbuckling cosmetics, and 750 Trader’s Tender associated with “Keg Leg’s Crew.” The 2025 notice also named the Hooktalon flying mount, Plunderlord’s Midnight Crocolisk mount, Sparklesnap the crab pet, and Parley the parrot pet. These are examples from past events, not confirmation that the items can be earned now or will return in a future run.
