You can play the PC version of Resident Evil 3 (2020) in VR using the community VR implementation in REFramework. Install the appropriate VR runtime, then extract REFramework’s complete VR archive into the game’s directory. REFramework documents stereoscopic 6DOF VR, OpenVR and OpenXR support, and RE3 motion controls; this is a mod, not an official Capcom VR mode.
What you need to play Resident Evil 3 Remake in VR on PC
- The PC version of Resident Evil 3. Steam lists a PC version, but that listing does not establish availability through other retailers: Steam’s Resident Evil 3 listing.
- A PC-capable VR headset and a runtime supported by your headset setup. REFramework documents OpenVR and OpenXR support, but that does not guarantee every headset/runtime combination works.
- The current REFramework VR files. Use the project’s repository and official site for current downloads and instructions. The repository distinguishes its last stable build from newer Nightly developer builds.

How do I install the Resident Evil 3 VR mod?
- Check the current REFramework documentation and downloads. Confirm that you are following the VR-specific instructions and choose a build appropriate to your setup. The project’s files and compatibility guidance can change.
- Choose the VR runtime. The repository’s basic guidance is to install SteamVR unless you are using OpenXR on a supported headset. REFramework lists support for both OpenVR and OpenXR, but do not assume all combinations are supported.
- Find the Resident Evil 3 game directory. Use the directory for the PC game installation you intend to launch.
- Extract the entire VR archive into that directory. The VR instructions call for the complete archive, not just a single file. Do not substitute the non-VR installation instruction, which extracts only
dinput8.dll. - Launch the game through your usual PC VR setup. If it does not start or VR does not engage, consult the current REFramework documentation and check that the selected runtime and game build are compatible. The available documentation does not establish a universal executable version or headset-specific workaround.
What VR features does REFramework add to RE3?
REFramework documents generic stereoscopic 6DOF VR for supported games and game-specific motion controls for RE3. Its project site describes hand-tracked weapon aiming and interaction, as well as comfort options such as roomscale movement and world-scale adjustment. First-person mode is also listed for RE3. These are mod features, not modes supplied or officially supported by Capcom.

First-person or third-person VR: which should you use?

Optional third-person camera and crosshair fix
A separate Nexus Mods page documents an optional RE3 camera/crosshair fix. Its listing gives version 1.0 and an upload and update date of 06 August 2026. It requires a compatible REFramework Nightly VR build and the RE3 VR Crosshair files. It is an add-on for that setup, not a standalone VR mod or a way to enable third-person mode by itself: Nexus Mods listing.
