For the main console games, play Silent Hill (1999), Silent Hill 2 (2001), Silent Hill 3 (2003), Silent Hill 4: The Room (2004), Silent Hill: Origins (2007), Silent Hill: Homecoming (2008), Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (2009–10), Silent Hill: Downpour (2012), and Silent Hill: Book of Memories (2012). This is release order, not a single in-universe chronology. Regional launch dates varied, especially for later releases.
Release order for the main console games
The sequence below follows the games’ original release periods. It gives the core console playthrough without suggesting that every entry shares one continuous story.

Konami dates the original Japanese PlayStation release of Silent Hill to March 4, 1999; North American and European launches followed later that year. See Konami’s Silent Hill title information and the region-by-region chronology at Silent Hill Memories, an unaffiliated fan site. The historical chronology records dates by region, so years above are practical release periods rather than claims of one global launch date.

In release order, Silent Hill 2 (2001) precedes Silent Hill 3 (2003). The numbering can make the order seem obvious, but the key point is that the list follows when each game appeared—not a suggested narrative chronology. If you want to experience the series as players first encountered it, keep that sequence.

Where the Silent Hill 2 remake fits
The SILENT HILL 2 remake is a separate 2024 release, not another name for or replacement of the 2001 original. Konami describes it as a full remake and lists PS5 and PC/Steam in its product materials: official remake page and Konami’s US page. Place it at its own 2024 release point if you are making a complete release-order list; for a modern first game, it is an identifiable option on PS5 or PC, though it is not the same experience as playing the original.

The main-console sequence is not an exhaustive list of everything released under the franchise. Additional titles and formats include Japan-only Silent Hill: Play Novel (2001), mobile and arcade releases, the 2014 playable teaser P.T. associated with the announced Silent Hills project, and the interactive streaming experience Silent Hill: Ascension (2023). P.T. was a teaser, not a completed full game; Ascension is not a conventional standalone game. The fan chronology at Silent Hill Memories catalogs regional and less widely available releases.
Other newer releases are Silent Hill: The Short Message (2024), the SILENT HILL 2 remake (2024), SILENT HILL f (2025), and SILENT HILL: Townfall (listed as available on Konami’s current portal in 2026). SILENT HILL f is set in 1960s Japan; Konami lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC storefronts. Its official page is here. Konami’s portal lists Townfall as available, but the reviewed official pages do not establish its first release date by market; see the current franchise portal for current title and platform information. Availability can change, and a platform listing does not establish that a physical edition exists for every platform.

Choosing a starting point
- For the historical playthrough: start with the 1999 original and follow the main-console list above.
- For a modern entry: the SILENT HILL 2 remake is a clearly identified PS5 and PC option in Konami’s product materials. Treat it as its own version, not the original game.
- For a comprehensive franchise survey: decide whether to include alternate formats, mobile and arcade releases, teasers, streaming experiences, and remakes; they do not all play like standard console games.
