Trailmakers cross-platform multiplayer is confirmed between Xbox consoles and the Microsoft Store/Xbox-app version on Windows PC. Steam is not confirmed to play with Xbox, and no official source confirms cross-play involving PlayStation. There is no verified cross-play switch, invite code or command that unlocks unsupported platform combinations.

Flashbulb Games stated that the Microsoft Store version would be cross-platform compatible with Xbox, “but not Steam.” That makes the Windows edition you own important: buying Trailmakers on Steam does not provide the same cross-play capability as playing the Microsoft Store/Xbox-app edition. How to play between Xbox and PC
- Use the correct PC edition. The PC player must use the Microsoft Store/Xbox-app version, not the Steam version.
- Install and update the game on both devices. Mismatched or outdated builds can prevent multiplayer sessions from appearing, although the official sources do not identify a specific version requirement.
- Sign in to the relevant Xbox/Microsoft accounts. The Microsoft Store PC build and Xbox console version use the same Xbox service ecosystem.
- Open Trailmakers’ online multiplayer menu. Create a multiplayer session on one device, then have the other player look for and join that session through the game’s normal multiplayer flow.
- Confirm that both players are using the same supported combination. If one PC player is on Steam, the Xbox–PC pairing is not the developer-confirmed setup.
Trailmakers’ official site describes online multiplayer with friends and sessions for up to seven friends. That describes the multiplayer capacity; it does not mean every platform can join every other platform. See the official Trailmakers site for the game’s current multiplayer description.
Can Steam players cross-play with Xbox?
There is no developer-confirmed Steam–Xbox cross-play. Flashbulb Games specifically distinguished the Microsoft Store PC version from Steam and said the former would work with Xbox, but not Steam. Claims on third-party cross-play lists that include Steam should therefore be treated as unsupported or potentially outdated unless Flashbulb publishes a newer compatibility statement.

If you want to play with an Xbox friend, use the Microsoft Store/Xbox-app edition on PC rather than assuming that any Windows PC copy is compatible.
Does Trailmakers support PlayStation cross-play?
Trailmakers has versions for Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but the official sources reviewed do not confirm PlayStation cross-play with Xbox, Microsoft Store PC or Steam. Do not rely on the existence of online multiplayer on PlayStation as proof that PlayStation players can join other platforms.

Is there a cross-play setting or command?
No verified official documentation lists an “Enable Crossplay” setting, cross-platform command, invite-code system or account-linking procedure for Trailmakers. Cross-play depends on the platform pairing supported by the game and its services; it cannot be enabled with a console command or hidden menu option.
What to do if the multiplayer server does not appear
A Microsoft Community report describes a Microsoft Store PC/Xbox attempt where the multiplayer server did not appear on either device. That report does not establish a confirmed cause or fix, so use it as a troubleshooting symptom rather than proof that a particular workaround works.

- Verify that the PC player is using the Microsoft Store/Xbox-app edition, not Steam.
- Fully close and restart Trailmakers on both devices.
- Check that both installations are updated.
- Recreate the multiplayer session and search again from the other device.
- Confirm that both players are signed in to the intended Xbox/Microsoft accounts.
- Test the connection again after restarting the relevant console, PC and network equipment.
If the session still cannot be found, the problem may be service- or network-related, but the available official material does not provide a definitive diagnosis or guaranteed fix.

To play Trailmakers cross-platform today, pair an Xbox player with someone using the Microsoft Store/Xbox-app PC version. Do not buy or launch the Steam version expecting Xbox cross-play, and do not assume that PlayStation is included unless Flashbulb Games publishes a newer confirmation. The developer’s explicit compatibility statement is more reliable than generic cross-play databases that list broader support without matching official evidence.
