It is not a conventional emulator: the project translates the game’s Xbox 360 PowerPC code to x86-64 ahead of time and runs it as a Windows program. You must provide your own Xbox 360 disc image and your own Title Update 2 dump; the project download does not include the game.
This guide explains the files, installation sequence, supported modes, graphics settings, platform limits and the practical differences between this recompilation and Xenia emulation.

What you need before installing
The launcher builds a local PC installation from files you dump yourself. Gather these items before downloading the Windows release:

The recompilation is built around Title Update 2. According to the project’s documentation, the unpatched disc version disables DLC loading, while Title Update 2 enables DLC and is the game’s final version. Supplying the update is therefore part of a normal installation, not an optional patch for later.

What “static recompilation” means here
An Xbox 360 game normally contains PowerPC instructions intended for the console’s processor and graphics APIs. The recompilation project processes that game code ahead of time with ReXGlue, producing x86-64 code that Windows PCs can execute. Its PC build also provides a native Vulkan renderer for the game’s Direct3D 9 calls.
The project’s FAQ describes the result this way: “The game’s code was translated to x86-64 ahead of time and runs as a Windows program.” In practical terms, the launcher is preparing a Windows application from your legally obtained source files; it is not pretending that Windows is an Xbox 360.
How that differs from an emulator
Xenia emulates an Xbox 360 system and translates game instructions while the game is running. The WWE All Stars project instead targets this one game, translates its code before execution and uses a renderer written for the PC build. That is an architectural distinction, not a promise that one approach is always faster, more accurate or more compatible. No independent head-to-head benchmark establishes a universal performance advantage.

The launcher also does not open a disc image as a conventional emulator would. It reads the image, verifies the expected content and copies the required files into its own installation data. The source image and update are read rather than modified.
Obtaining and handling the required files
You are responsible for creating the disc image and Title Update 2 dump from your own Xbox 360 media and console. The project repository and releases contain no game files and do not provide download links for them. Do not use shared images, copied update folders or unofficial game-download sites.
The project’s own guidance says not to share the gamedata or updatedata folders, the disc image, the update or DLC packs. That is the project’s file-handling and legal guidance, not a substitute for the laws that apply where you live. Keep your dumps private and use only the release region the project lists: USA or Europe.

Install the Windows recompilation
Use this sequence for a clean first installation.
- Download the current Windows x64 release. Use the latest Windows x64 ZIP listed on the project’s Releases page. Check that you selected the Windows build rather than a source-code archive.
- Extract the ZIP to a normal folder. A path such as
C:GamesWWEAllStarsis suitable. Run the program after extraction; do not launch it from inside the compressed archive. The README advises avoidingProgram Files, where Windows permissions can prevent the launcher from writing generated data. - Start the launcher. Open the extracted folder and run
WWEAllStarsLauncher.exe. The launcher is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may warn on the first launch. Treat that as a Windows security decision: verify that you obtained the archive from the project’s official release, and do not disable security protections globally or approve files from an unverified source. - Select your Xbox 360 ISO. In the launcher, browse to the disc image you created from your own USA or Europe disc.
- Select Title Update 2. Browse to the update dump from your own console. The project is built on this update, so do not skip it even if you do not plan to use DLC.
- Add DLC if desired. Use the launcher to select DLC packs dumped from your own console. Adding DLC through the launcher is the supported method; manually copying random packages can leave the installation incomplete.
- Let the launcher verify and prepare the build. It checks and copies the required files, then prepares shaders and graphics pipelines. The first preparation occurs once and can take a few minutes. Your source files are read, not changed.
- Select Play. When preparation finishes, choose Play in the launcher. Keep the launcher and generated game folder together if you later move the installation.
First launch: graphics, resolution and controls
The native Vulkan renderer is the default. An emulated renderer remains available as a fallback and reference path if the native renderer causes a problem on your hardware.

The PC build adds display options that were not part of the original console presentation:
- Render resolutions of 720p, 1440p and 2160p.
- Supersampling and sharpening controls.
- Anisotropic texture filtering up to 16x.
- Color options.
- Low, Medium and High presets.
The project says Low is selected on first start for a Steam Deck or an integrated GPU. You can raise the preset after confirming that the game is stable and that your GPU driver is current.

Open the in-game PC Settings page in any of three ways: press F4, click both controller sticks, or open the game’s Options menu and choose the PC settings entry. A controller is the practical choice for wrestling controls, although the documentation does not require a particular model.
What is reported to work
The project’s compatibility list separates playable content from features that have not been implemented or connected. “Tested and playable” means the project reports that the listed path worked in its own testing; it is not a guarantee for every PC configuration.

Online Player Match should be treated as a separate experimental service, not as a connection to official Xbox LIVE infrastructure. Availability and behavior can change with the project server.

Performance and platform compatibility
The README reports the original game’s 60 frames per second and reports 60 fps on a Steam Deck running SteamOS through Proton with the Low preset. These are the project’s own compatibility and performance observations; the documentation does not provide an independent benchmark methodology or a publication year. They should not be read as a guarantee for every PC, resolution or graphics preset.

Anything not listed may still work, but the project cautions that unlisted combinations can crash. Vulkan support and an up-to-date driver are the sensible baseline; they do not turn an untested GPU or operating system into a supported configuration.
Windows or Steam Deck?
Windows is the documented primary target because the release is a Windows x64 program and Windows 11 is the tested desktop operating system. Steam Deck owners can use SteamOS and Proton, with the project’s reported Low-preset result as a useful reference. Desktop Linux has no equivalent tested status in the README, so expect to troubleshoot compatibility layers yourself.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The launcher will not start
- Confirm that you extracted the ZIP completely rather than running the executable inside it.
- Move the folder out of
Program Filesto a writable path such asC:GamesWWEAllStars. - If SmartScreen appears, verify the archive’s provenance before deciding whether to allow it. Do not bypass Windows protections for an unknown or altered file.
- Install current GPU drivers with Vulkan support, then restart Windows and try again.
The launcher rejects the image or update
- Check that the image is the USA or Europe Xbox 360 release listed by the project.
- Verify that you selected Title Update 2 rather than a different update or an incomplete folder.
- Re-create the dump from your own disc or console if files are missing or corrupted. Do not replace them with a download from another user.
The game crashes while preparing shaders or pipelines
- Give the first preparation several minutes; the project says this one-time step can take a few minutes.
- Ensure the installation folder has about 8 GB free and that Windows can write to it.
- Update the Vulkan-capable graphics driver.
- Try the emulated renderer as a fallback and reference path from the PC settings if the native Vulkan renderer fails on your configuration.
Graphics are unstable or performance is poor
- Start with the Low preset, especially on an integrated GPU or Steam Deck.
- Use 720p before increasing to 1440p or 2160p, then raise supersampling, sharpening or anisotropic filtering one setting at a time.
- Return to the native Vulkan renderer after testing the fallback, or switch to the fallback if Vulkan-specific problems remain.
- Remember that the project’s 60-fps notes are configuration-specific observations, not a performance promise for untested hardware.
DLC does not appear
- Confirm that Title Update 2 is selected; the project says the disc version disables DLC loading.
- Add the DLC through the launcher rather than copying arbitrary packages into the game directory.
- Use DLC dumped from your own console and keep the resulting folders private.
Controllers or four-player input are not detected
- Connect and configure controllers in Windows before starting a match.
- Use the in-game PC Settings page through F4, both-stick click, or Options to review input settings.
- Test one controller first, then add the others. A particular controller model is not mandated by the project, so compatibility depends on the device and its Windows driver.

Choose the recompilation when you want a dedicated Windows build of WWE All Stars and are comfortable preparing the required files. Choose an emulator when you specifically need a broader Xbox 360 environment or want to experiment with other compatible games. The two approaches solve different technical problems.
Important limitations to understand
- This is an unofficial project and is not affiliated with WWE, THQ, Yuke’s or Microsoft.
- The release does not include the game; your own disc image and update are mandatory.
- Ranked Match, leaderboards and the in-game store are unsupported.
- Online Player Match is experimental and uses project-operated infrastructure instead of the original Xbox LIVE and THQ servers.
- Windows 10, NVIDIA and Intel GPUs, and desktop Linux are listed as untested.
- Unlisted hardware or software may crash even when it meets the basic Vulkan and storage requirements.
- Do not share game folders, images, updates or DLC packs.
Bottom line
The Xbox 360 static recompilation is a practical way to run WWE All Stars on a PC without emulating the entire console. Install the Windows x64 release in a writable folder, provide your own USA or Europe disc image and Title Update 2, add self-dumped DLC through the launcher, and let it build the shaders and pipelines before playing. Expect the strongest confidence on the project’s tested Windows 11 configuration and on Steam Deck through Proton at Low settings; treat other GPUs, Windows 10 and desktop Linux as experiments rather than guaranteed targets.
