While playing, hold the controller’s HOME Button for at least one second to open Quick Settings, then select Sleep Mode. You can also choose Sleep Mode from the HOME Menu or briefly press the console’s POWER Button. Wake the console with HOME or a brief press of POWER.
Put the Switch into Sleep Mode from a game
- Hold the controller’s HOME Button for at least one second to open Quick Settings.
- Select Sleep Mode.

Other ways to enter Sleep Mode
- From the HOME Menu: Select Sleep Mode.
- With the console button: Briefly press the console’s POWER Button.

Wake the console and resume play
Press HOME or briefly press POWER to wake the console. Sleep Mode suspends play so you can resume after waking. Returning to the HOME Menu also suspends running software; to close that software, select it and press X. Save your game first if needed: closing software can discard unsaved data. Battery, network, and warmth while asleep
If the battery runs out while the console is in Sleep Mode, unsaved data can be lost. Nintendo’s Hong Kong support page also says the console stays connected to the network while asleep and may feel warm; it describes this warmth as not a malfunction. Nintendo support
