A Varla Stone can recharge every magical item in your inventory at once, and Mages Guild service providers can recharge items for a fee.
Recharge a weapon with a filled Soul Gem
- Get a filled Soul Gem. Empty gems cannot recharge items; fill one with a Soul Trap spell or find or buy a filled gem.
- Open the Inventory Menu and select the filled Soul Gem. In Bethesda Support’s documented interface, open inventory, point to the weapon, and press F to consume the appropriate gem. Controls may differ by platform or edition, so follow the prompt shown by your game. Bethesda Support’s recharge instructions describe the inventory procedure.
- Check the weapon’s inventory information for its maximum charges and remaining uses. The original PC manual says this information indicates how many uses remain before the weapon needs recharging.
The detailed recharge instructions are from the original PC manual. Bethesda’s official Oblivion page also lists Oblivion Remastered and its Standard and Deluxe editions, but the cited instructions do not establish remaster-specific controls. Use the on-screen prompt if your controls differ.

What does—and does not—need recharging
Enchanted weapons and magical staves expend charges. Enchanted armor, clothing, and jewelry are constant-effect items and do not need recharging, according to the Oblivion PC manual.
Do not confuse a Welkynd Stone with a recharge item: it restores Magicka to its maximum, rather than recharging magical items.
