If a Microsoft 365 app such as Word, Excel, or Outlook is malfunctioning on Windows, restart the app and the computer first. Start with the least disruptive action: close the affected Office app, reopen it, and restart Windows. Microsoft lists restarting the app and computer before the built-in repair procedures because a temporary process or service failure can clear without changing the installation.

How do I repair or reset an app in Windows 11?
Windows 11 places the per-app controls in Installed apps. Repair is the first choice because it is the less disruptive option in Microsoft’s sequence; Reset is the fallback when Repair is unavailable or ineffective.
Repair an individual app
- Open Start, then select Settings.
- Choose Apps, followed by Installed apps.
- Find the affected Microsoft 365 or Office app in the list.

How do I repair the Microsoft 365 or Office suite?
