Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse music mods replace one Unity audio-bank file, master.bank, in the game’s Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_Data/StreamingAssets folder. Downloaded replacement banks can be installed by backing up the original, copying the modded file into that folder, and launching the game. To return to the official soundtrack, remove the modded bank and put your backup back with the exact filename master.bank.
Custom soundtracks are more involved: the bank must be rebuilt with a compatible FMOD workflow while preserving the event names, file structure and formats the game expects. The drive letter and Steam library location can differ on your PC, but the final two folders should remain Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_DataStreamingAssets. A soundtrack mod does not normally require replacing the executable, managed assemblies or save files; its installation target is the bank in this folder.
Replacing the bank can affect every event stored in it. Depending on the project, that may include stage or biome music, boss themes, menus, credits and ending tracks. A “full replacement” and a selected-track replacement use the same installation method; the difference is what the mod author included when building the bank.
Which music-mod approach should you use?
Use a finished replacement bank when you want the lowest-risk installation. Build a custom bank only when you are prepared to preserve the game’s FMOD structure and troubleshoot missing events or loops.

How do I back up the original master.bank?
Back up before opening or overwriting anything. A backup gives you a clean way to uninstall the music mod and lets you compare behavior if a replacement has missing audio.
- Close the game and any launcher process that might still be writing to its files.
- Open the game’s installation directory, then open
Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_DataandStreamingAssets. - Locate the existing file named
master.bank. Confirm that it is the original file supplied with your current game installation. - Copy the file to a safe location outside the mod download. Keeping it in the same folder is also possible if you rename it so it no longer ends in
.bank. - Use a descriptive name such as
Master.Bank.ORIGINALormaster.bank.original-2026-10-25. Keep the date, game version and mod version in a separate note if you maintain several backups.
Do not edit the only copy of the original. If a mod archive contains its own “original” file, compare its name and source with the file already installed; your own pre-installation copy is the reliable rollback point.

How do I install a finished replacement music bank?
Installation is a file swap. The game must see the replacement under the exact name master.bank in StreamingAssets; leaving it inside a nested folder or with an extra extension will not replace the bank the game loads.
- Download the finished music replacement from its mod page and read the author’s requirements and permission notice.
- Make the original-bank backup described above before extracting or copying the mod.
- Extract the download with an archive utility. Look for a file named
master.bank. If the archive contains a readme, follow any game-version or load-order notes in it. - Open the game’s
Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_DataStreamingAssetsfolder in a second window. - Copy the downloaded
master.bankinto that folder. Approve the overwrite only after confirming your backup is complete. - Launch the game and deliberately visit more than one type of area: a normal stage, a boss encounter, a menu and, when available, a credit or ending sequence. This checks events that may not play during the opening portion of a run.
The SOTN replacement instructions use this exact process and explicitly call for backing up the original. The Complete Music Replacement SOTN-HoD Mix likewise tells players to unzip the download, replace master.bank and retain a renamed original such as Master.Bank.ORIGINAL.
What is changed by a full replacement?
A full replacement can target biome music, boss fights, menus, credits and endings in one bank. Do not assume that “full” means every sound effect is replaced; the label describes the soundtrack coverage advertised by that particular mod, not a guarantee that all audio events in the game were rebuilt.
Why would a selected-track mod be preferable?
Selected-track projects can leave most of the official score intact while changing a few areas or bosses. They are useful when you want a particular theme without taking on the compatibility risk of a bank that remaps a much larger set of events. Check the mod’s description for the listed coverage rather than inferring it from the file name.
How do I restore the original soundtrack?
Restore the backup by putting it back under the filename the game expects. You do not need to reinstall the game merely because a music bank was replaced.

Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_DataStreamingAssets. - Move the modded
master.bankout of the folder or rename it, for example tomaster.bank.modded. Keeping it lets you switch back later, but only one active file should be namedmaster.bank. - Copy your preserved original bank into
StreamingAssets. - Rename the restored file to exactly
master.bank, including the spelling and extension. - Start the game and test a stage and a menu. If the official music returns, keep the modded bank in a separate archive or folder rather than deleting it until you are certain you no longer need it.
If Windows hid file extensions, verify that you did not accidentally create master.bank.bank. The game will not treat a differently named backup as the active bank.
How can I build a custom soundtrack bank?
A custom soundtrack is not just a matter of dropping MP3 or WAV files into StreamingAssets. You need a compatible FMOD workflow that can read or recreate the project’s bank structure, place replacement audio in the expected events, and rebuild a valid master.bank.
- Copy and preserve the original
master.bankbefore attempting extraction or editing. - Use an FMOD-compatible workflow to inspect the bank or work from a project that reproduces its events. The available installation guidance documents how to install finished banks more clearly than it documents an official developer-supported authoring pipeline for this game.
- Replace audio while retaining the event names, file relationships, looping settings and formats expected by the game. Renaming an event or omitting an event can leave a stage silent even when the bank loads.
- Rebuild or export the bank as
master.bank. Check that the rebuilt file is not still inside an authoring-project subfolder. - Install the rebuilt bank in
Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_DataStreamingAssetsusing the same backup-and-swap procedure as a downloaded mod. - Test every event you changed, including transitions, loop points, boss music, menus and end sequences. Keep notes about which source file maps to each event so you can correct one problem without rebuilding blindly.
Do not assume that a bank which loads is a bank which is complete. FMOD can open a valid bank while an individual event is absent, incorrectly named or configured with a bad loop point. If you cannot preserve the original event and file structure, use a finished replacement instead of distributing an untested custom bank.
How do I fix a soundtrack that will not loop correctly?
Looping problems usually come from the replacement bank’s event configuration rather than from the act of copying the file. First determine whether the issue is limited to one track or affects every replacement.
One track stops, restarts or goes silent
- Return to the original bank and replay the same area. If the official track loops correctly, the problem is in the replacement bank’s event or source audio.
- Check the mod page for an updated file. The SOTN replacement’s file page records a version 1.01 update whose note says it “fix the soundtrack loop problem.” Install that updated bank only after making a fresh backup of the bank currently installed.
- If you built the bank yourself, inspect the event’s loop region, transition marker and asset length in your FMOD workflow. Rebuild the bank and test the exact point where the loop failed.
Several tracks fail to loop
- Confirm that the entire replacement bank, rather than an older partial file, was copied into
StreamingAssets. - Check whether the mod is an early build with incomplete testing. A broad pattern of failures can indicate that multiple events were not exercised by the author.
- Restore the original bank to separate a game-file problem from a mod problem. If the official bank behaves normally, report the affected areas and approximate timestamps to the mod author instead of repeatedly overwriting files.
What if the game has no music after the replacement?
Work through the file and naming checks before rebuilding anything.

- Confirm that the active file is exactly
master.bank, notMaster.bankwith a different case,master.bank.zip, ormaster.bank.bank. - Confirm that the file is directly in
Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_DataStreamingAssets, not in the extracted archive’s outer folder. - Check that the archive extraction completed and that the bank has a plausible non-zero file size. A zero-byte or partially copied file cannot provide the game’s events.
- Temporarily restore the original bank. If audio returns, the replacement is incompatible, incomplete or damaged; if it does not, verify the game installation and any unrelated audio settings.
- Test a menu and a stage separately. A selected-track mod may intentionally leave one of those areas unchanged, while a broken bank can silence both.
Do not delete your backup while troubleshooting. Keeping the known-good bank makes each test reversible and prevents a failed experiment from becoming a full reinstall.
How compatible are these music mods?
Compatibility is not guaranteed across every game build or every part of a playthrough. SigmaNL describes its Music Mod as an early fan build and says it “could not test all sounds in game because i’m not that far in the game yet.” That is a testing limitation, not evidence that the untested events work.
The independent CastlevaniaBC guide states that its listed projects were not installed or tested by the wiki and advises backing up files or saves and checking requirements after updates. Treat such listings as pointers to projects, not as compatibility certification.

After installing any bank, test ordinary exploration, a boss, menus and the end-game sequences you can reach. Keep the original bank available after every game update: an update can restore, replace or otherwise change files in the installation directory, and a mod built against a different bank structure may stop working.

- Do not convert or reuse another author’s assets in a new release unless the stated terms allow it.
- Avoid distributing extracted commercial soundtrack recordings without the necessary rights, even if the files were obtained from a fan project.
- When reporting a bug, share the affected area and your game/mod versions rather than reposting the bank itself.
Maintenance checklist after installing a music mod
- Keep an untouched original

The documented example is a Steam library path, but the game-relative location remains Castlevania Belmont’s Curse_Data/StreamingAssets. Other launchers may place the installation elsewhere, so locate the folder containing the game executable and follow that same relative path rather than copying to a guessed Steam directory.
How should I label backups when testing several versions?
