To reset selected Minecraft chunks with AmuletMC, stop the server, make a restorable backup, download and extract a copy of the world, open that copy in Amulet, switch to the 2D chunk view, select the area, choose Delete Chunks, save, upload the edited world, and start the server. Minecraft will generate replacement terrain when players visit the deleted area. This process resets only the chunks you select, but everything stored in those chunks—including builds and other saved data—is discarded, so verify the selection and keep the backup.
How do I reset chunks with AmuletMC on my Minecraft server?
Use Amulet on an offline copy of the world, not on a running server directory. The complete workflow is:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAs an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Create and verify a server backup.
- Save the game and stop the server completely.
- Download the world files and extract them on your computer.
- Open the extracted world folder in Amulet.
- Open the 3D Editor, change the view to 2D, and set selection mode to Chunks.
- Navigate to the target coordinates and select only the chunks to reset.
- Choose Delete Chunks, confirm, and use File → Save.
- Keep the server stopped while you replace the old world with the saved copy.
- Start the server and visit the area so Minecraft can generate new chunks.
Amulet’s editor documentation defines the operation this way: “The chunks in the selected area will be deleted. The game will recreate them next time you visit them in game.” A reset therefore restores newly generated terrain according to the server’s current world-generation settings; it does not preserve buildings, chests, entities, or other data that occupied the deleted chunks.
What is AmuletMC, and which Minecraft versions does it support?
Amulet is an external save-file editor. It works on downloaded Java and Bedrock worlds rather than connecting to a live server console. The official Amulet FAQ lists support for Java Edition 1.12 and newer and Bedrock Edition 1.7 and newer. Snapshot, beta, and preview formats are not supported, so a world made with one of those formats should not be opened until it is saved in a supported release.

|---|---|---|
| Java Edition 1.12 and later | Supported | Use the normal open, select, delete, save workflow. |
| Bedrock Edition 1.7 and later | Supported | Open the extracted Bedrock world folder rather than a Java save. |

The official product page describes compiled builds and a software license. Amulet is software for editing save data, not a server plugin and not a physical accessory. You need access to the actual world files; a player or operator permission by itself is not enough if your host does not let you download and replace those files.

What should I do before deleting any chunks?
Preparation is the most important part of a safe reset because chunk deletion has no in-game undo. Amulet’s readme says, “We do not expect Amulet to corrupt any worlds but please create copies before editing them.” Treat that as a requirement, not an optional precaution.
Create a restorable backup
- Use your host’s backup tool or copy the complete world directory to separate storage.
- Include every dimension folder used by the server, not only the main overworld folder.
- Give the backup a clear date and keep it until you have verified the regenerated terrain.
- If possible, download the backup and confirm that it can be extracted before editing anything.
Stop the server cleanly
Save the world, then stop the server and wait for the process to exit. Amulet’s FAQ specifically says that a server world can be edited only after the server is closed and must remain closed while editing. A running process can write region files while Amulet is changing them, producing lost changes or an inconsistent save.
Work on a copy
Download the world archive, extract it into a clearly named local folder, and edit that copy. Do not point Amulet at a live, mounted, synchronized, or still-uploading server directory. If you make a selection mistake, close the copy without saving and extract the original backup again.
How do I download and open the server world in Amulet?
Use your hosting panel’s file manager, SFTP connection, or backup download function to obtain the world while the server is stopped. Extract the archive so that the folder you select contains the world’s files directly, rather than another archive nested inside it.
Recommended Free Tools
- Launch Amulet.
- Choose Open World.
- Choose Open Other World.
- Browse to the extracted
worldfolder and select it.
Shockbyte’s guide uses this same sequence for Java and Bedrock examples. If Amulet reports that the folder is not a world, check that you selected the folder containing the save files, not the downloaded zip file or its parent directory. Also check that the server has finished writing files before you downloaded it.
Which folder contains the Nether and End?
The answer depends on server software. Spigot-based servers commonly store dimensions in separate folders named world_nether and world_end. Other server types can keep Nether and End data under the main world folder. Open the folder structure used by your server and identify the dimension before selecting chunks; opening the overworld does not automatically select the corresponding Nether or End area.

How do I select only the chunks I want to reset?
Chunk selection, rather than block selection, is what makes a targeted reset possible. You can navigate with coordinates, keyboard movement, zoom controls, or the map itself, then select a rectangular area in the 2D view.
- Open the world in Amulet’s 3D Editor.
- Switch the display from 3D to 2D. The top-down map makes chunk boundaries and large regions easier to identify.
- Change the selection mode from Blocks to Chunks.
- Move to the target location using coordinates, WASD navigation, zoom, or map panning.
- Drag or click to select the exact chunk area. Check the boundary on all four sides before continuing.
- Confirm that you are in the intended dimension and that no protected build, town, portal hub, or redstone installation lies inside the selection.
A Minecraft chunk is a 16-by-16-block column that extends through the dimension’s vertical build range. Selecting one chunk therefore affects every block and saved object in that column, not just the visible surface. If you need to remove a single building while preserving neighboring terrain, chunk deletion is too coarse; use a block-level edit or an in-game method instead.

- Record the target’s X and Z coordinates before opening Amulet.
- Use a screenshot or map marker to compare recognizable landmarks with the editor view.
- Select a small test area in a disposable copy first if the boundary is difficult to identify.
- Zoom in until chunk edges are clear, then review the highlighted rectangle before deleting.
- For a long strip or irregular project, handle one small group at a time and save separate copies.
What does Delete Chunks do in Amulet?
After selecting the target area, click Delete Chunks and confirm the warning. Amulet removes the selected chunk data from the save. That includes terrain, structures, containers and their contents, block entities, and other information stored in those chunks. The deletion is not a regeneration preview and does not preserve the old state inside Amulet.
Use File → Save after confirming the deletion. Wait for the save operation to finish before closing Amulet or moving the folder. Keep the untouched backup and the edited copy under different names so that an upload mistake cannot overwrite your recovery option.
What happens to players, mobs, and other entities?
Amulet’s readme says entities are not currently supported. An entity may not be represented or edited reliably by the program, and deleting its chunk removes the chunk data when the save is written. Plan as though mobs, dropped items, minecarts, villagers, pets, and similar objects in the selected area will not survive the reset. Move anything valuable outside the selection before shutting down, or restore from the backup if an entity-dependent build is affected.
What if a chunk appears red or cannot be edited?
Amulet’s readme identifies an unloadable chunk as red and says it cannot be modified. Do not force the operation by deleting surrounding files manually. Re-download the world, verify that the server was fully stopped, and try opening a fresh copy. If the same chunk remains unloadable, preserve it and use the backup while investigating the save format or server software.
How do I save, upload, and regenerate the reset chunks?
Once the edited copy is saved, leave the server stopped and replace the server’s old world with the saved world folder. The exact upload path varies by host, but the folder must occupy the same location and use the same dimension naming expected by the server.

- Close Amulet after the save completes.
- Keep the server offline.
- Rename or move the existing world folder rather than deleting it immediately. This gives you a second local rollback point.
- Upload the edited world folder and restore the expected name, such as
world. - Check that dimension folders are in the correct locations for your server software.
- Start the server and watch the console for a normal world load.
- Travel to the reset coordinates. Minecraft generates replacement chunks when the area is visited.
Shockbyte describes the server as regenerating reset chunks after startup, while Amulet’s editor documentation specifies that recreation happens on a later visit. In practical terms, starting the server makes the edited save available; entering the deleted area triggers generation. The resulting terrain follows the world seed and the generation settings used by the running server, so a version, seed, or generator change can produce a different result from the original landscape.
What are the main risks of resetting chunks?
The central risk is permanent loss inside the selected boundaries. A chunk reset is appropriate for abandoned exploration, corrupted terrain, or a planned fresh area, but it is not a safe way to erase one block, one structure, or one player’s inventory.
- Build loss: houses, farms, roads, portals, and underground rooms in the selected chunks are removed.
- Stored-data loss: chests, barrels, furnaces, signs, maps, and other block data are discarded with the chunk.
- Entity loss: entities are not currently supported by Amulet, so do not expect them to survive.
- Dimension damage: Shockbyte warns that resetting the wrong End chunks may break the End dimension. Treat End edits as a separate, high-risk operation.
- Format limitations: incomplete block translations can affect how some content is represented when a world is opened and saved.
- Selection errors: a one-chunk boundary mistake can remove a neighboring build or cut through a road, portal route, or redstone circuit.
Keep the original backup until you have visited every reset area, inspected the borders, and confirmed that important structures outside the selection still load. If anything is wrong, stop the server, remove the edited copy, and restore the untouched backup rather than trying to reconstruct deleted data manually.
How should I handle Nether and End resets?
Reset dimensions one at a time and identify their storage paths before opening them. The Nether and End do not share the overworld’s terrain, structures, or coordinate scale, so a coordinate that is safe in one dimension may correspond to an important build in another.
Nether
Confirm whether your server keeps Nether data in world_nether or under the main world directory. Select only the intended Nether chunks and make a dimension-specific backup before deleting them. Check portal links after regeneration because a newly generated area can change the terrain around a portal while the portal blocks elsewhere remain.
End
Use extra caution in the End. The End contains unique structures and progression-critical locations, and Shockbyte warns that resetting the wrong End chunks may break the dimension. Never select broad End regions merely to remove a small build; isolate the exact chunks and keep a separate pre-edit backup.
What troubleshooting steps fix common Amulet reset problems?
Amulet cannot open the folder
Verify that the archive was fully extracted and that you selected the folder containing the world files. Confirm the save is from a supported Java or Bedrock release, not a snapshot, beta, or preview. Re-download the stopped server copy if the archive was created while files were still changing.

The wrong dimension is displayed
Close the world, inspect the server’s folder layout, and reopen the specific dimension directory or world structure expected by that server software. Spigot-style separate folders and servers that nest dimensions under world require different navigation choices.
The deleted area does not regenerate
Make sure the edited world actually replaced the server’s old folder and that the server is using the same world name. Then travel into the deleted coordinates; regeneration is triggered when the area is loaded, not simply by opening the server console. If the old terrain reappears, the upload likely targeted the wrong folder or the server started from a different world.
Blocks look different after saving
Amulet’s readme notes that some block translations are incomplete. Restore the backup if a save changes important blocks unexpectedly, and avoid using Amulet as a conversion tool for content it does not represent reliably.
Amulet reports an unloadable chunk
A red, unloadable chunk cannot be modified according to the readme. Preserve it, retry with a fresh stopped copy, and do not delete region files by hand unless you have a tested recovery plan and a complete backup.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can I reset only one area without resetting the whole Minecraft world?
Yes. Amulet’s chunk selection lets you delete a bounded rectangle while leaving unselected chunks intact. The practical limit is the chunk boundary: every selected 16-by-16 column is removed through the full dimension height, so an area smaller than one chunk cannot be reset with this operation alone.
For Java worlds older than 1.12, Shockbyte recommends MCASelector instead because those versions fall outside Amulet’s stated support range. For current supported Java and Bedrock releases, Amulet is useful when you need an offline editor that can target whole chunks, but you should choose another method when the job requires entity preservation, container-sensitive editing, or block-level precision that Amulet cannot guarantee.
What should I check after the server starts?
- Visit the center and all four edges of the reset area.
- Confirm that new terrain appears and that the surrounding old terrain remains intact.
- Check nearby portals, roads, farms, redstone machines, and chunk-aligned builds.
- Verify that players can enter and leave the area without crashes or repeated chunk errors.
- Review the server log for world-load or region-file errors.
- Keep the backup until the regenerated area has been accepted by everyone who builds there.
If the result is wrong, stop immediately and restore the pre-edit world. Do not make another Amulet save over the failed copy; each additional save can make it harder to determine which version still contains the original data.

Is Amulet the right tool for this reset?
Amulet is a reasonable choice when you have world-file access, are running Java 1.12 or newer or Bedrock 1.7 or newer, and want to remove complete chunks from an offline copy. Its strengths are direct chunk selection, support for both major editions within those ranges, and a workflow that does not require keeping the server online.
It is a poor fit for snapshots and other unsupported formats, Java versions below 1.12, edits that must preserve entities, or jobs that require block-level precision. The reviewed material does not establish a current feature matrix for competing editors, so compare any alternative on these specific points: supported version range, whole-chunk versus block editing, offline-copy workflow, dimension handling, backup or undo behavior, and support for entities and containers.
What is the safest practical procedure?
The safest procedure is conservative: stop first, keep two copies, select less rather than more, save once, upload while offline, and test by visiting the regenerated area. Chunk deletion is powerful because it avoids rebuilding terrain by hand, but that same scope makes a backup and a boundary check more important than speed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does resetting a chunk change the world seed?
No. Deleting chunks removes saved terrain data; it does not by itself change the seed stored for the world. New terrain is generated from the seed and the server’s active generation settings when the deleted coordinates are loaded.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Will players lose their inventories when I reset chunks?
Player inventories are normally stored with player data rather than inside a terrain chunk, so a chunk deletion is not intended to reset every player’s inventory. Items placed in chests, barrels, furnaces, or other containers inside the deleted chunks are part of the removed chunk data and should be treated as lost.
Can I undo Delete Chunks inside Amulet?
Do not rely on an in-editor undo for this operation. The dependable recovery method is closing without saving or restoring the untouched world backup, which is why separate copies should be created before editing.
Why do regenerated chunks not match the old terrain exactly?
Generation can differ if the server version, generator settings, datapacks, or other world-generation inputs changed since the original chunks were created. Even with the same seed, those changes can produce different terrain or structures.
Is it safe to edit a world while players are online?
No. The Amulet FAQ says the server must be closed and remain closed during editing. Online players and server writes can change region files while Amulet is saving, leaving an inconsistent or incomplete world.
